Dee Dote waterfall is located a bit far from Mandalay, approximately 40km away but it is totally worthy coming to this incredible place. It is an amazing experience, the waterfall is so beautiful and quite surrounded by nature. There is a local restaurant next to the waterfall where you can have lunch or drink something, also they have toilet. Buckle up—my weekend in Pyin Oo Lwin was pure magic. 🌺 First Impressions Stepping off the Mandalay bus, I was hit with crisp 20°C air (goodbye, Yangon sweat-fest!) and the scent of eucalyptus and fresh strawberries. The town’s all winding lanes, candy-colored cottages, and clip-clop of horse carts like a Jane Austen novel—but with way better food. 🤣 The "I Rode a Horse Cart… Badly" Moment I insisted on driving a horse cart to Pwe Kauk Falls (how hard could it be?). Spoiler: Very. Within minutes, my "steed" Moonlight was zigzagging like a drunkard while I white-knuckled the reins. The owner laughed so hard he gave me a free strawberry smoothie as consolation. 🐴💨 🍓 Foodie Heaven Breakfast was hot, buttery naan with Pyin Oo Lwin avocado jam at a Persian tea house (yes, really). But the showstopper? A hidden garden café’s avocado coffee—silky, sweet, and topped with crushed local hazelnuts. I may have ordered three. 💎 Hidden Gem: The Candacraig Hotel’s Secret Garden Everyone visits National Kandawgyi Gardens, but sneak into the Candacraig’s overgrown courtyard(a former British officers' club). It’s all mossy fountains, crumbling brick arches, and the ghostly vibe of "tea parties past." #MarchGoodPlaces2025 Pyin Oo Lwin ပြင်ဦးလွင်, also known as Mye Myo, in central Myanmar, is only half an hour's drive from Mandalay. You can use Google Maps to navigate there. The last picture is the hiking trail to Bhin Oo Lwin. After climbing the mountain, you will enter the flat city. The botanical garden is very large and requires a ticket to enter, 2500 kyat/person for locals and 10000 kyat/person for foreigners. You can take a sightseeing bus at the entrance, 20000 kyat/45 minutes, and drive in for 500 kyat/car. The park has lush vegetation of many types, a forest for raising birds, a lake, and woodland, making it a great place for camping. There is also a butterfly museum, but taking photos is not allowed inside. There are various butterfly, beetle, bee and moth specimens, beetles as big as the palm of your hand, and butterflies emitting purple laser light. Address: XFV9+JQ8, Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar

#favouriteitinerary Kandawgyi Natjonal Gardens is a popular location for tourists and locals alike to visit. The garden itself is very big and has a lot of attractions all around. Getting there is quite easy as well, it’s built around the beautiful lake in Pyin Oo Lwin and its clock tower is hard to not see. The entrance fee is also only $3 as well. There are not a lot of food options inside so it’s recommended to eat beforehand or afterwards! There was a tree that was growing in a falling posture and I really enjoyed climbing up that. Their gardens were also very colorful and the park had so much to offer. I haven’t explored it all even after 10+ visits!

#favouriteitinerary This place I visited was called the Chinese Vegetarian Temple located in Pyin Oo Lwin of Myanmar. This place has a restaurant and a temple with beautiful gardens that rent you East Asian Clothing to dress up and take pictures. I ate Shan glutinous rice (4th photo) Although Pyin Oo Lwin is generally a city in the Mandalay region, it shares a lot of its culture with Shan State which is just as close to them. Definitely try out strawberry drinks too as it’s this city signature fruit. The rental of the outfits were only $0.5 per outfit. Do pay a visit to this place if you can! I am excited to visit again and learn its history.

#favouriteitinerary Pyin Oo Lwin is a beautiful mountainous city known for its richness in nature. They have a lot of gardens and fruit farms. Htoo Orange Farm opened a while back to the public, they have always been known for their oranges but following leads of neighbouring countries - they started a place for visitors where you can freshly pick oranges off the tree and try out!! For an entrance fee of less than $3, you can eat as much as oranges you want in the garden. They provide you with a basket and a hat and drive you to the groves from the parking area. You can take away all the oranges you put into your basket home for $3 a kg! Do pay a visit if you’re in the area.

#favouriteitinerary Before people call me out on not including the one piece photos, let me explain - I was very hungry i forgot to take a lot 😭 This shop has 2 friendly dogs, one golden retriever and the other that isn’t necessarily the prettiest to most people. Please give it some love when you go :( They also have cats! Perfect for pet lovers. They have BBQ that you can choose to your liking where the staff grills it for you! The whole shop is somewhat Japanese themed! I really loved the vibes and the BBQ, i don’t recommend the fried rice though… Do give it a visit if you’re a One Piece lover and BBQ lover!

#favouriteitinerary Visit a 3-story cafe with a stunning view of the lake with me. The cafe consists of 3 floors. The first story is called Union Cafe where they serve italian and local cuisines. The second story has their local brands, goods specially made from Pyin Oo Lwin and a book store! The third story is a banquet hall where people celebrate weddings and small parties. The place is decorated very beautifully and the idea is truly innovative. I really loved their pizza there, it was only $10 for a whole medium size with generous toppings. Their outdoor seating is perfect with the mountainous region weather in the evening! A perfect stop while on a trip to Pyin Oo Lwin.

#favouriteitinerary Pwe Kauk Waterfalls is a really popular destination in Pyin Oo Lwin. As the city is on a mountainous terrain, there are a lot of waterfalls here and there. I especially recommend going to Pwe Kauk due to the local restaurants available there. Getting there shouldn’t be that hard, although it might be hard without your own rented vehicle. People often rent motorcycles. If you have your own vehicle, just pop the name into the GPS and it should take you there. The roads are not the best but it’ll be okay as long as you’re careful. Please do follow guidelines if you swim as waterfalls can be dangerous if you’re not careful. Always make sure to take stomach medication if you’re a tourist and not used to Myanmar’s public waters. The view on the way back is totally ecstatic (3rd image).

This Tofu restaurant has been my family’s go to for almost a decade now. They sell very unique home-made tofu with their homemade sauce! It is literally the best tofu I have ever eaten!! They also have other options such as noodles and chicken feet. I love to feed the stray animals wandering around the store too! P.S. This small local store is even popular amongst celebrities in Myanmar.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION Pro tip: Head to the viewing platform for the best view. Walk around and explore the area, there’s much to see. There are various trekking trails here which vary in difficulty. HOW TO GET THERE The waterfall is situated between Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin. The best ways to reach this waterfall is by road or train. You can take the train from Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin. The journey takes about 4 hours. Trains are also available daily from Lashio, Hsipaw and Kyaukme. Travel by bus on a 2-hour journey from Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin. You can also take a private taxi. You will fall in love with the Dat Taw Gyaint Waterfall. We’re sure. The mesmerising clear blue water and unpolluted fresh air provide the perfect spot for you to fully enjoy a waterfall experience in Myanmar. This paradise has received the attention of tourists from all over the world and is visited by thousands of people each year, including the locals. The lush greenery around the waterfall makes the area shady and cooling, and several animal species that reside here add to the magic of this waterfall. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Train Departure Time: 4:00 AM (from Mandalay) Train ticket cost: K 3950 Pro tip: Choose the upper-class seat for a comfortable journey. Seat at the left side on the last 3 seats for the best view. HOW TO GET THERE You have to catch a train between Pyin Oo Lwin and Lashio to pass through this bridge. The train starts at Lashio in the north, however, most tourists get on in Hsipaw. It takes around 4.5 hours from Hsipaw and 3.5 hours from Pyin Oo Lwin to reach this bridge. This is one of the most picturesque bridges of Myanmar. The amazing railway bridge is 55km north-east of Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region. This timeworn train still dons wooden benches in the interior of the Ordinary Class section, bringing you back to the past as you experience a slow journey along the amusing mountain track. The train will approach the bridge after 3.5 hours of leaving Pyin Oo Lwin. As the train moves along the curves and bends of the hills, you can get glimpses of the magnificent bridge from afar. After the enjoyable, old-fashioned train ride passes the bridge, you can choose to continue your train ride all the way to Naung-pein or Hsipaw, or you can go back to Mandalay by taking the bus or renting a car. The Shan village is also nearby which makes an ideal pitstop. #getgoing2025

They specialize in strawberry related drinks and desserts as they have their own strawberry farm we can pluck our own fruits in. They also have a big cow farm so, they sell a lot of dairy products and milk-related desserts! They’ve been so successful for so long that they expanded their shop and made it a garden that has many attractions and photo spots! I definitely recommend visiting there at least once when you’re in the Mandalay Division as it is a stop that even locals always make. Happy Travels ~

#newyearnewtrip I have posted about the cafe inside Kandawgyi garden but not specifically the whole garden. This garden is huge, like actually huge.. They have literally anything you can think of. A climbable clock tower? got it A butterfly museum? yep An orchid garden? sure do A walkway over a mud forest? got that too A bird park? yep The list can go on for so long so people usually rent buggies where a driver sends you around the main locations you wanna go to! Their flowers are highly maintained and the park itself is great as well. This is especially because of the weather as it is on a mountain. The best part is that park entry costs only $10 for foreigners and $2 for locals! Definitely a must visit if you ever think of visiting Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar. Happy Travels ~
