Mount Bromo
Mount Bromo is an active volcano located in East Java, Indonesia. Part of the Tengger massif and Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Bromo stands at 2,329 meters (7,900 ft) and is famous for its stunning sunrise views, vast sea of sand (Laut Pasir), and the annual Yadnya Kasada festival held by the Tengger people. The mountain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia due to its easy access and dramatic views. The people around Mount Bromo/Mount Brahma are believed to be holy mountains. Once a year, the Tengger people hold the Yadnya Kasada or Kasodo ceremony. The ceremony takes place in a temple at the foot of Mount Bromo and continues to the summit of Bromo. The ceremony is held at midnight to early morning every full moon around the 14th or 15th of the month of Kasodo (tenth) according to the Javanese calendar.
