Hungary's Hidden Travel Gem|Things to Do in Tapolca
Most people visit Tapolca for the famous cave boating experience.
But ladies, don't just paddle for 15 minutes and leave!
There are two other attractions near the cave that are worth exploring.
🇭🇺 Here are the three things I must do before leaving Tapolca:
❶ Paddle through the crystal-clear underground lake inside the cave
🚣 Tapolcai-tavasbarlang (Tapolca Cave Lake)
❷ Take photos at the Fish Stairs, which have a Chinese New Year vibe
🐠 Fish Stairs, located 240 meters from the cave
❸ Stroll by the fountain and admire the plump koi fish
⛲️ Mill Pond, right at the bottom of the Fish Stairs
📍 Tapolca, Hungary, near Lake Balaton. If you're visiting Lake Balaton, I highly recommend stopping by Tapolca as well.
Located on the north coast of Lake Balaton, the tentative World Heritage site includes the Tihany Peninsula,
the Tapolca Basin, the Kali Basin and Lake Heviz, all under natural and cultural heritage protection.
A definitive, common feature of the areas belonging to the Balaton Uplands cultural landscape is their millions of years of geological history,
during which a diverse but harmonious landscape was formed due to volcanic activity and its aftereffects.
The magmatic rocks that make up the diverse surface formations, the basalt columns, sea of stones, hot springs. The lookout towers are the following:
Soos hegyi lookout tower, Balatonkenese
Somlyi hegyi lookout tower, Alsoors
Fuzfoi lookout tower, Balatonfuzfo
Fulop hegyi lookout tower, Revfulop
Festetics lookout tower, Gyenesdias
Tördemici lookout tower, Badacsony
Nemesvita lookout tower, Nemesvita
Bel Matyas lookout tower,
Berzsenyi lookout tower, Padkui lookout tower, Balatongyorok
Festetics lookout tower, Alsogyenes
Batsanyi lookout tower, Becehegy
Bokk hegyi lookout tower, Abrahamhegy
Csonge hegyi lookout tower, Salfold

Szigliget, calm, nice, pleasant
Szigliget is a small, quiet village on the northern shore of Lake Balaton.
This is the only village on the shores of Lake Balaton that cannot be reached by train.
Despite this, there were people, most of them by car. I arrived by bus.
There is a small port, a beach, a castle ruin, a palace with arboretum and a look-out tower.
From the lookout, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Balaton and the interestingly formed mountain called Badacsony.
Be careful in the evening the last bus leaves at around 7 pm.

Discover a Hidden Gem! Taupo Lake Cave: A Breathtaking Natural Wonderland! 🤩
#summervacay
Just a short trip away, you'll find the Tapolca Lake Cave (Tapolcai-tavasbarlang) – an absolutely stunning natural wonder! Discovered over 100 years ago, this cave is incredibly cool inside, offering a refreshing escape! 🌬️
The water in the cave is crystal clear and shallow, allowing you to see right to the bottom! It's super photogenic, almost like jelly! I honestly didn't want to leave, even if time was tight (just kidding... mostly! 😉).
Just a heads-up: some parts of the cave are quite narrow, and you might not be able to fully lift your head. You might even find it easier to propel yourself with your hands rather than the oars in some sections. It can be a bit tiring afterwards! 💪
