This is my third time visiting Tainan This time, it was a complete solo trip I chose the highly popular viral hostel, Zhai Chateau It's actually an entire floor of the Chateau Hotel converted into a youth hostel So the quality is absolutely guaranteed 👌🏻 The location is incredibly convenient Right on Chenggong Road in Tainan's Old Town There's a 7-Eleven right downstairs Within walking distance to attractions like Chihkan Tower Of course, the hotel facilities are fully equipped The 8F is a massive hub for the front desk, socializing, and dining The package I selected included breakfast First time having such a hearty and delicious meal at a hostel 🤤 Afternoon tea is served in the afternoon For late-night snacks, they offer minced pork rice, fried noodles, etc. There's also a racing game area 🏎️ The 1F has a Cama Cafe You get a $50 discount voucher upon check-in Next to it is the laundry room They also give you a $140 discount voucher, exactly enough for a 1-hour light wash and dry Of course, what attracted me the most was the room Traditional youth hostels usually have standard bunk beds The better ones might have capsule-like compartments But this completely designed mini-room layout is truly one of a kind 👍 One main room has 6 compartments labeled A to F (Quick tip: During the off-season, you can leave a note requesting a compartment away from the door for a little surprise 🪟) Those who value privacy can book this with total peace of mind There are curtains you can draw for coverage It's spacious enough to open 2 suitcases A desk is provided for light work Indoor slippers are also equipped Valuables can be kept in the safe Since it's a hostel, the bathrooms are shared But this part is also super awesome They actually provide Dyson hair dryers The shower cubicles have both a curtain and a door, offering excellent privacy The bath amenities are from the Swedish brand Skog 🇸🇪 After staying for 3D2N, I honestly wanted to cancel the rest of my itinerary Walking or riding a YouBike through the streets and alleys every evening People who have never been to Tainan simply can't relate to this kind of happiness 🥹

It has witnessed over 400 years of Taiwan's rich history, enduring through the Dutch colonization, the Kingdom of Tungning (Ming-Zheng), the Qing Dynasty, and the Japanese colonial period. The sprawling grounds offer plenty of must-see highlights, including the ruins of Fort Zeelandia, the observation tower, the Fort Zeelandia Museum, the historical monument memorial hall, and the statue of Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong). When you need a break from exploring, you can kick back and relax at the on-site cafe and souvenir shops. My solo trip to Tainan was a truly wonderful experience. To explore Tainan efficiently, I highly recommend choosing a hotel based on its location! I stayed at the "Golden House Art and Eco-Hotel - Jia Inn Hall 2", which is within walking distance of many iconic tourist spots like Yongle Market and Shennong Street, as well as great places to grab delicious local specialties like Danzi noodles. Since I was traveling alone, I was glad that the food portions in Tainan are generally quite small, making them super easy to enjoy. If you get the chance, you have to visit a local burger joint in Tainan! The hotel staff told me that eating congee or mee sua alongside a burger and fried chicken is the true "Tainan style," so they highly recommended giving it a try. I took their advice, and it turned out to be an incredibly filling and hearty dinner. These places get pretty crowded, so I'd recommend getting takeout. There’s no subway system in Tainan, so you’ll have to rely on buses, taxis, or rental bikes to get around. Riding the bus is actually a lot of fun because it really makes you feel like a local. It gets extremely hot in Tainan, so staying hydrated and taking regular breaks is an absolute must. There are tons of drink stands and cold dessert spots—like Douhua (tofu pudding) shops—scattered all over the city. It was really fun hopping between different shops to rest and cool down. As for Shennong Street, if you have the time, I definitely recommend visiting twice: once in the morning and once at night when it is beautifully lit up. The city is full of historical buildings. Some charge a small admission fee, but they are all well worth the visit. You can easily see most of the major attractions in about three days and two nights.

During the 3-hour trip to Tainan, I was barely in my seat and just snapped photos nonstop 😂📷️ You're free to walk around the train, but it gets pretty bumpy, so keep an eye on the little ones. Surprisingly(?), the karaoke car was insanely popular—I was shocked! Also, the spinning chairs in the event car were a massive hit with the kids; there was actually a line for them, lol. You just can't find this authentic flavor in Taipei or Hong Kong 😋 It's a short walk from the hotel to Hayashi Department Store, where you can find all sorts of creative goods and souvenirs~ You can also take a leisurely stroll through the Tainan Art Museum. You definitely won't be bored on the weekends! The best part is the hotel's collaboration with Aesop. The bath products and hand wash in the rooms are all from the Aesop line. You'll instantly fall in love—the scent is so therapeutic and chic 🧴💕 There's even a pop-up store downstairs, so you can buy some to take home anytime~ Even the popular Korean producer Na PD stayed here to film a YouTube video. It's got some serious hype! As for the price, it averages around $350 per person. It's a super comfortable stay with fantastic value for money, definitely worth a try~ My personal rating: 8.5/10.
