Secret Maldives Hotels Guide
Ecoboo, a bamboo-themed tourist hotel in the Maldives, stands out as a smaller but increasingly popular category within the existing tourism accommodation system, alongside traditional resorts and guesthouses on inhabited islands.
Ecoboo Maldives is one of the representative projects among the 16 tourist hotels in the Maldives.
Located on the inhabited island of Vaavu Atoll Thinadhoo, it's approximately a 75-minute speedboat ride from Malé.
Ecoboo began trial operations at the end of 2022 and officially opened in 2023. The project is positioned as an eco-boutique tourist hotel.
The hotel currently operates approximately 26 guest rooms, with a long-term plan to reach approximately 40 rooms, covering an area of approximately 5,000 square meters, making it a relatively small project among inhabited island tourist hotels.
In terms of architectural design, Ecoboo does not adopt the traditional urban hotel model, but rather focuses on a low-density, ecological layout. The project extensively utilizes bamboo structures and natural materials in its construction, with buildings limited to 2-3 stories. Multiple buildings are nestled within tropical vegetation, giving it an overall design concept closer to a small eco-resort.
Room types include:
· Ocean Breeze (Sea View Room)
· Coconut Suite
· Bamboo Loft (Duplex Loft Room)
· Orchid Double (Garden Room)
· Red Coral Double (Double Room)
· Lemon Grass Family Room
The duplex loft rooms and family rooms can accommodate 4-6 guests, making them suitable for families.
Overall prices are significantly higher than typical guesthouses on inhabited islands, but still much lower than five-star resorts in the Maldives:
Standard Room: Approximately US$130-250;
Ocean View Room: Approximately US$180-350;
Suite: Approximately US$250-600.
Dining options: The project features a main restaurant, an ocean view restaurant, a beach bar, and a café, offering international cuisine, Mediterranean dishes, and local specialties.
Leisure Facilities: Includes a private beach area, snorkeling center, diving center, deep-sea fishing, dolphin watching, sandbar picnics, water sports center, and children's play area.
Target Audience: With low-carbon operation, sustainable construction, and eco-friendly tourism experiences as its core selling points, the target audience primarily comes from the European ecotourism market and independent travelers seeking in-depth experiences.
From an investment perspective, Ecoboo represents the third type of tourism product that has been developing in the Maldives in recent years—the Tourist Hotel model. The investment scale is lower than that of private island resorts, but the product experience is significantly higher than that of traditional inhabited island guesthouses.
