Yorkshire pudding is totally NOT your average pudding—it’s a legit English classic and a must-try food when you’re in the UK! 🤩 It’s made from a simple batter of flour, eggs, and milk (or water), poured right into sizzling-hot oil or leftover meat drippings. The result? Puffy, light, and airy vibes with a crispy outside and a soft, hollow center. Sooo good! When I first heard about Yorkshire pudding, I legit thought it was something sweet, like the puddings we all know and love. 😂 Turns out, it’s from Northern England and was originally created to use up leftover drippings from roast meat. No dessert here—just a savory piece of heaven! Traditionally, Yorkshire pudding comes out during Sunday roast—paired with roast beef and loads of rich gravy. Sometimes, you’ll get it as a starter with onion gravy, which is literally comfort food goals. Wanna try the real deal? Head to classic British pubs or restaurants. Many spots in York, Leeds, and all around Yorkshire serve this iconic side dish. If you’re exploring Northern England, don’t skip this dish. It’s not just food—it’s the taste of tradition and surprise! #must-tryfood #localfood #thingstodo #hotdiscussions

How much does a trip to the UK cost💰? To be honest, it's not as expensive as you might think🇬🇧 Before I left, I scrolled through a bunch of posts and was scared off for half a month by claims that it would "start at 30k." After actually finishing a 9-day trip, the per-person cost, including visa and airfare, was just over 16k, and I still had some pocket money left. Today, I'll break down the costs based on different budget levels so you can see exactly where the money goes👇 💷 Three budget tiers, find your fit Budget travelers can get by on £50–80 per day, with a total 10-day cost of about £500–800. Staying in hostels and grabbing supermarket meal deals is totally doable. For a comfortable trip, budget £100–150 per day, which easily covers standard hotels, sit-down meals, and intercity trains. For a high-quality experience, budget from £200 per day, and you'll have plenty for Michelin-starred restaurants and boutique hotels. For major transportation, keep an eye out for discounted connecting flights two months in advance. You can snag tickets for just over 4,000 including taxes, saving you thousands compared to last-minute direct flights. For intercity trains, be sure to book Advance tickets early; you can cut the original price in half. For example, a one-way ticket from London to Oxford costs just £15–30. For accommodation, remember one rule: don't insist on staying in central London. Choose a homestay near a subway station in zones 2–3; it's convenient, clean, and costs £30–50 per person per night if you share a room. As for food, supermarket meal deals cost three or four pounds per meal, and a sit-down meal is £15–25 per person. £30–40 a day is more than enough. 🏰 Trip highlights, spend your money where it counts The British Museum has free admission. Once you step into the Egyptian and Chinese galleries, you won't want to leave—it's well worth setting aside half a day. The National Gallery is also free, and Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" is hanging right inside. For punting on the River Cam in Cambridge, we split a boat among 5 people and negotiated it down to £12.50 per person. The punter shared gossip about the colleges the whole way, making for an incredible experience. Edinburgh Castle offers a view overlooking the entire old town, and the castle's outer walls glow gold in the sunset from the square in front. The Shambles in York is the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, and every photo looks like a movie still. ⚠️ A few heartfelt tips Starting in 2026, the UK will fully implement electronic visas. Remember to link your UKVI account before you travel, as airlines will check your visa status online before boarding. If you are under 30, get a Railcard for your train travel to save one-third on ticket prices immediately. It works even better when you buy tickets via Trainline. For short trips in London, taking the bus is more cost-effective than the subway; it's £1.75 for a single trip, transfers within an hour are free, and it's capped at £5.25 per day. The weather in the UK changes faster than you can turn a page, so just keep an umbrella with you. Save where you can, and spend where it enhances the experience. The UK is a place where your eyes and mind will come back full. Once is truly not enough🌍

York Minster was one of the most impressive historic landmarks I visited in York. Standing in front of this enormous Gothic cathedral, I was struck by how grand the architecture was, with its detailed stonework, towering structure, and beautiful stained-glass windows. Inside, the scale was just as impressive. The huge nave, intricate carvings, and colourful medieval stained glass gave the cathedral a very peaceful and historic atmosphere. The Great East Window was particularly beautiful and is one of the highlights of the Minster. I also enjoyed walking around the area surrounding York Minster, where the cathedral fits perfectly into York’s charming medieval streets. It felt like one of those places where history is everywhere you look. York Minster is definitely a must-visit when exploring York, especially if you enjoy history, architecture, and beautiful old buildings. 🏰⛪✨🇬🇧 #travel2026 #travel #travel #summervacation

Forget the car and the train. The Coastliner 840 is the journey and the destination. 🗺️✨ 🌅 8:20 AM — Leaving York We boarded the earliest Coastliner 840 from York ☕ The city's medieval walls faded behind us and within minutes we were trading cobbled streets for open countryside. 🏰➡️🌳 🌾 Through the North York Moors The bus doesn't just pass through the North York Moors — it dances through them. · Pickering — a charming market town with a castle and steam railway 🚂 · Goathland — this is Aidensfield and the station doubled as Hogsmeade in Harry Potter 🪄 · Endless moorland — purple heather, grazing sheep and skies so big you'll forget you're on public transport 🐑💜 💡 Tips for Your Trip ✅ Sit on the top deck, right side for the best views ✅ Grab the earliest bus ✅ Day ticket = incredible value 💷 #uktravelmessageboard #YorkToWhitby #Coastliner840 #Whitby #VisitWhitby #NorthYorkshire #NorthYorkMoors #BusTravel #ScenicJourney

For a while, I've been stopping on Foss Bridge in York. Not to cross it — that's just a means to an end, getting from Fossgate into Walmgate — but to look through it. That elliptical arch frames the River Foss like a lens, and every time I leaned over the balusters I'd wonder: what's it like down there? Can you actually walk that way? I finally found out. 🚪 The Alleyway It started, as these things often do, almost by accident. Tucked away beside Le Specialty (the little café on Fossgate) is a narrow alleyway. Easy to miss. Easy to walk straight past. But this time I didn't. And right there at the mouth of it — a painting of David Bowie. 🎭 That felt like a sign, as if the alley was telling us: yes, go on then. 🔄 Turning Around The alley led me through a modern development — the Hungate area — and then came the moment I'd been waiting for. I walked downstream, following the riverside path, and when I turned back — there it was. Foss Bridge, from the other side. Not the compressed, framed view through the arch. The whole thing: · The full elliptical span in profile, rising and falling · The gritstone glowing in the late morning light · The arch and its reflection forming a near-complete ellipse 🪞 Two hundred years of civil engineering, and I'd only ever seen half of it. 🌿 Into the Green The path kept going. Past Friar's Quay, under Hungate Bridge, and into Foss Islands Nature Reserve — a corridor of green so close to the city centre. York does this constantly: hides entire worlds behind a door you've walked past a hundred times. #York #HiddenYork #FossBridge #RiverFoss #Hungate #FossIslands #SecretWalk #YorkWalks #Snickleways #DavidBowie #StreetArt #RiversideWalk #Yorkshire #VisitYork #YorkHistory

The Yorkshire Museum in York is one of the UK's oldest purpose-built museums, housing nationally significant archaeological and natural science collections. The Museum has one of the best Viking-era collections outside Scandinavia. ⚔️🛡️ Think battle-worn swords, intricate silver hoards and the famous York Helmet staring you down like a true warrior. 🪨 There are massive Roman columns and carved medieval slabs that you can actually reach out and touch. 🤲🏛️ Run your hand across 1,800 years of history. 🌉😲 A stunning Saxon cross-shaft and a Norman doorway arch that make you feel tiny in the best way. 💥 A display of colorful coral that explodes like an underwater rainbow 🌈🪸💖 The kids were glued to it 👀🧒👧, along with the fossil-hunting table 🔍🦴 and Roman dressing-up corner 👑🪖, which kept them busy. 👨👩👧👦 💡Tips: Your ticket is valid for 12 months – so you can come back again and again! 🔁🎟️🗓️ #YorkshireMuseum #York #VisitYork #Vikings #RomanBritain #MuseumLover #FossilHunting #RainbowCoral #MuseumGardens #NorthYorkshire

There’s something about York that makes you want to explore without a plan. 🇬🇧✨ Centuries of history are woven into the city, from medieval streets and timber-framed buildings to impressive old architecture, cosy corners and little shops hidden down narrow lanes. The best part is simply walking around. One moment you’re surrounded by historic buildings, the next you’ve found a quiet street, a charming café or another beautiful view you weren’t expecting. York has that rare combination of being full of things to see while still feeling compact enough to discover on foot. Give yourself time to wander rather than rushing from attraction to attraction — some of the nicest parts are the ones you stumble across along the way. Just got back from the UK. Five days, and I’m completely drained. It’s not that it wasn’t fun, it’s just that everything was so expensive💸 A cup of coffee costs 50–60 yuan, a simple meal starts at 100 yuan per person. A few stops on the subway cost dozens of yuan. I kept converting everything to RMB, but after a while, I gave up. That said, it was worth it. 📍Trip highlights (copied as is) Day 1 classic London walk: Watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace—make sure to arrive before 11 AM. Take photos of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Head to the London Eye at sunset for stunning aerial views of the city. Day 2 museum day: The British Museum is free. The Egyptian and Chinese exhibits are breathtaking. See the royal crown jewels at the Tower of London. Snap iconic photos at Tower Bridge. Day 3 Windsor + Oxford: Windsor Castle is the largest royal castle still in use. Christ Church College in Oxford inspired the Hogwarts dining hall—must-visit for Harry Potter fans. Day 4 Cambridge: Punt on the River Cam for the same romantic experience as Xu Zhimo. The stained glass at King’s College Chapel is stunning. Check in at the Newton apple tree outside Trinity College. Day 5 York: Shambles Street inspired Diagon Alley. The Gothic stained glass at York Minster is so beautiful it leaves you speechless. 🍽️Food recommendations Fish and chips are a must—find the most authentic at Borough Market. The 24-hour bagel shop on Brick Lane has amazing corned beef bagels. Try Yorkshire pudding and Scotch eggs. ⚠️Travel tips · Apply for your visa early; the paperwork is complicated. Bring a UK three-prong plug adapter · The UK can have all four seasons in one day—carry a waterproof jacket and umbrella · The subway is packed during rush hour; avoid if you can · Buy tickets for popular attractions in advance to avoid long lines · Watch your bags in crowded places and don’t use your phone while walking I don’t want to add up how much I spent in five days. But the chimes of Big Ben, the River Cam in Cambridge, and the sunset in Edinburgh—totally worth it.

England was one of those places that felt familiar even before I visited. I had seen London, old English villages, and the countryside so many times in movies, but experiencing them in real life was completely different. London London is an obvious choice, but it really deserves the hype. Seeing Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and Westminster in person felt special. My favorite part was actually just walking around, getting lost between busy streets and quieter neighborhoods. The Cotswolds Probably one of the most beautiful parts of my trip. The stone cottages, small villages, and countryside looked like something from a movie. Bibury and Castle Combe were especially beautiful. This is the kind of place where you don’t need to rush. Bath Bath has a completely different atmosphere. I came for the Roman Baths, but I ended up enjoying the city itself even more. The architecture is gorgeous, and it’s a great place to explore on foot. York York made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Walking through The Shambles and seeing York Minster were easily the highlights. It’s historic, charming, and surprisingly fun to explore. Lake District This was the England I didn’t expect to love so much. Lakes, mountains, green hills, and peaceful little villages everywhere. After spending time in the cities, being here felt like the perfect change of pace. For me, England is best when you experience both sides of it. Spend some time in London, but don’t stop there. The countryside and smaller cities were actually some of the parts I remember most. #londontrips #england #york

🇬🇧 One tip that saved us money while travelling around the UK 🚆💰 If you’re planning to explore the UK by train, here’s one tip I wish I had known sooner: Get a Railcard! My husband and I got the Two Together Railcard, and it has saved us a lot of money. It costs £35 for one year, and as long as the two registered people travel together, you get 1/3 off most train tickets across Great Britain. After just a few longer journeys, it had already paid for itself. We use it for almost every trip, whether it’s a day trip to places like York, Durham or Whitby, or longer journeys across England and Scotland. Which Railcard is right for you? There isn’t just one Railcard! Here are the main options: 🚆 16–25 Railcard – for travellers aged 16–25. 🚆 26–30 Railcard – for young adults aged 26–30. 👵 Senior Railcard – for anyone aged 60+. 👨👩👧 Family & Friends Railcard – perfect for families travelling with children. 👫 Two Together Railcard – for two named adults who usually travel together (friends, partners or family members). ♿ Disabled Persons Railcard – for eligible disabled travellers. 🎖️ Veterans Railcard – for eligible UK veterans. There are also a few more specialised Railcards depending on where you travel. Most of them offer up to 1/3 off rail fares. Where should you buy it? You can buy your Railcard from the official Railcard website, but Trip.com also sells Railcards, and they sometimes offer promotions that make them even cheaper than buying directly. Before purchasing, compare both prices, you might save a little extra. We got ours for 27 £. One thing to know: if you buy your Railcard through Trip.com, the digital Railcard stays inside the Trip.com app rather than the official Railcard app, so you’ll need to show it there during ticket inspections. #railcard #savingtips Is it worth it? Absolutely! If you’re spending more than a few days in the UK and planning to visit different cities by train, a Railcard can easily save you far more than it costs. For us, it’s been one of the best travel investments we’ve made in the UK. 🇬🇧✨ Have you used a Railcard before? Which one?

Finally understood! Everyone around me rushes to Southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea, but hardly anyone checks in at the UK 😭 Having personally traveled the British Isles route, I’ve figured out all the downsides and romantic spots! Here’s a heartfelt, honest experience—if you’re planning to go, you must read this! 🚞 Comprehensive Transportation Guide 🚃 Intercity Travel 💨 Trains between cities in the UK are essential! Be sure to book tickets 1–2 months in advance on apps ✨ Round trips from London to Edinburgh, Oxford, and Cambridge save you half the price if booked early; last-minute tickets can cost double! Old train lines often run late or change platforms suddenly, so always check the app for real-time updates ⏰ City Commuting 🚇 Upon arrival at Heathrow, the airport express train is the best choice to get into the city, much more cost-effective than taxis! For London travel, get an Oyster card 💳, which works on buses and the subway, with daily fare caps for peace of mind. Important warning! The old subway lines have no air conditioning and get very stuffy in summer; there’s no signal underground, so be sure to screenshot your routes in advance ❗ Classic Relaxed Itinerary 📅 Day 1 | London Landmarks & Food Tour 🌆: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and free entry to the British Museum Day 2 | Windsor Castle 👑: Watch the Changing of the Guard and immerse yourself in the royal British atmosphere Day 3 | Oxford University Town 📚: Visit Harry Potter filming locations and stroll through centuries-old colleges Day 4 | Cambridge Punting 🚣: Glide along the River Cam and experience the gentle English countryside Day 5 | Vintage York 🎞️: Walk along the Shambles and check out the magical alley scenes Day 6-7 | Romantic Edinburgh 🏰: Enjoy the stunning sunset at Calton Hill and wander the Old Town Day 8 | Healing Lake District 🌿: Relax by the green lakes and prepare for an easy return trip 💖 Genuine Travel Impressions Finally understand why the UK isn’t more popular! The downsides are very real 🥲 Visa process is complicated 📝, requiring lots of documents and in-person fingerprinting, which is time-consuming and troublesome; Overall prices are high 💸, with London hotels, drinks, and meals heavily overpriced, putting pressure on travel budgets; Weather is extremely unpredictable 🌦️! Sun, rain, and strong winds switch back and forth, making umbrellas almost useless and stylish outfits hard to show off; The rumored food desert is true—local dishes are limited, and heavy-flavored Chinese palates can get tired quickly. But! The UK’s atmosphere is truly irreplaceable ✨! Vintage red double-decker buses, centuries-old Gothic architecture, tranquil university lawns, and picturesque painted landscapes of hills and lakes. Edinburgh has a magical filter, Oxford and Cambridge offer artistic healing vibes, and many top museums are free to enter. Every snapshot looks like a movie scene, the ambiance is fully immersive, niche yet sophisticated! 🍜 British Food Hits and Misses 🔥 ✅ Classic Fish and Chips 🐟: Crispy outside, tender inside, best tasted at seaside shops ✅ English Sunday Roast 🥓: Juicy meat paired with Yorkshire pudding, very authentic ✅ Traditional Afternoon Tea 🍰: Scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet but not greasy, a must-try ✅ Scottish Shortbread Cookies 🍪: Affordable and delicious, perfect as souvenirs ❌ Tourist trap restaurants at attractions are overpriced and mediocre; prioritize local small alley shops ❌ Mostly cold and simple meals, not suited to Chinese dietary habits 📝 Thoughtful Travel Tips ✨ 1. Money-saving tip 💡: Stock up on water and simple meals from supermarkets, visit many free museums to save a lot 2. Must bring a waterproof windbreaker 🧥! Umbrellas won’t hold up in strong winds 3. Watch out for pickpockets at stations and subways 👀, keep valuables close and store them separately 4. Book popular attractions and studios in advance; there are usually no tickets left on-site 5. Choose accommodations in nearby small towns or B&Bs for much better value than central London ✨ Final Ramblings The UK may be troublesome, costly, and have unstable weather 🌟 But its unique vintage, artistic, and magical British charm can’t be replaced by any other country! If you love slow travel, photography, and artistic scenery, plan well before you go! This country with its built-in movie filter is definitely worth a trip 🔥

Step through the gates of Merchants Adventurers' Hall, and you'll find yourself transported back to medieval England. Built in the 14th century, this beautifully preserved timber-framed hall was once the meeting place of York's powerful merchant guild, where wealthy traders shaped the city's prosperity. Today, its magnificent Great Hall, historic chapel, and tranquil gardens offer a fascinating glimpse into centuries of commerce, craftsmanship, and community. Despite being just a short walk from York's bustling streets, the hall remains one of the city's quieter hidden gems. 📍 Location: Merchants Adventurers' Hall, York, England, United Kingdom 🏛️ Highlight: One of the finest surviving medieval guild halls in Britain 🌿 Feature: Historic timber architecture, medieval Great Hall, chapel, gardens, and interactive exhibitions 🍃 Atmosphere: Historic, peaceful, and wonderfully authentic 📸 Best for: History enthusiasts, medieval architecture, cultural exploration, and photography 💡 Travel Tip: Take your time exploring the exhibitions—they reveal how York's merchants influenced trade across England and beyond for hundreds of years. ✨ Signature feeling: Walking across centuries-old wooden floorboards beneath towering oak beams that have witnessed over 650 years of history. ✨✨✨ At 26, I attended my graduation ceremony, marking the end of my student life. A few days ago, I came across a video called “Rebellious Post-80s.” Watching it, my eyes welled up. I’m not a post-80s, but somehow, I understood them. The post-80s generation, when they were kids, listened to their parents; when grown up, listened to their bosses; after marriage, listened to their families; and with children, listened to their kids. They heard everyone’s voice except their own. Back then, missing university admission by two points, they gave up on retaking the exam and went to work. Later, the books they wanted to read, the places they wanted to go, the doctoral gown they wanted to wear—all became “I’ll do it later.” But that “later” turned into twenty years. Now conditions are better, careers are stable, and children have grown up. Yet they still hesitate to spend time on themselves. Occasionally, when mentioning places they wanted to visit in their youth, they say, “I’ll wait until retirement.” Hearing this makes me a bit sad because I know that “later” might never come. Today, standing in my doctoral gown at the Senate House entrance, it should be a happy day. But at that moment, what crossed my mind was— What about those who never had the chance to wear this gown when they were young? So I want to say to every post-80s: I missed your youth, but I see your dreams. Now that conditions are good, no need to wait for retirement. Come to Cambridge, rent a doctoral gown, stroll on the lawn, daydream by the River Cam. Not for anyone else, but for that unfinished dream from back then. 🎓 Why Cambridge? Not Oxford’s grandeur, but Cambridge’s “softness.” The River Cam flows slowly, the lawns invite you to lie down, and there are more pigeons than people in the colleges. As you walk, you suddenly feel—this isn’t a “university,” but a town where knowledge is planted in the grass. 📸 About that doctoral gown I wore my own. But you can rent one too. No advisor, no defense, no family witness? It doesn’t matter. Just on the Cambridge lawn, beside the stone where Xu Zhimo wrote poetry, put on the rented gown. Take a photo—not to show off on social media, but to tell that 18-year-old boy: “Look, I made it here too.” 🌿 Some hidden healing moments · Poling a punt under the Mathematical Bridge, listening to the boatman’s ancient gossip. · Lying on the Trinity College lawn, basking in the sun for half an hour, thinking of nothing. · Passing by Xu Zhimo’s stone, couldn’t help but recite “Farewell to Cambridge” once more. 💡 A little advice for friends who want to come: · Graduation ceremonies to follow: July 23-25, 2026, are full-degree sessions with the best atmosphere, perfect for photos in doctoral gowns (remember to book a photographer in advance). · Photo spots: Senate House steps, Mathematical Bridge, King's College Chapel entrance—highly photogenic. · Leisure tip: Buy a coffee, find a lawn without a “Keep Off” sign, lie down for half an hour, let the breeze from the River Cam be enough. 🎓 Cambridge Dream Fulfillment Mini Guide (Bonus) 📅 Follow a graduation ceremony (Academic Year 2026) · Summer main ceremony: July 1-4, 2026, only for undergraduates and designated degrees · Additional full-degree sessions: July 23-25, 2026, covering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees—best for doctoral gown photos · Location: Senate House, after the ceremony students toss their caps by the River Cam—a classic scene · Even if you’re not graduating, the town is full of students and families in gowns those days, the atmosphere is amazing, and hiring a photographer to follow you is totally fitting 📸 Doctoral gown photoshoot + campus tour · What to wear: Most photoshoots provide “Cambridge doctoral gown + mortarboard + white flower,” with Senate House steps, River Cam stone bridge, and college Gothic archways as backgrounds · Recommended colleges: King’s College (amazing chapel), Queens’ College (Mathematical Bridge), St John’s—softest lawns, perfect for lying down and daydreaming · Punting on the River Cam: The boatman poles while telling college gossip, more interesting than walking yourself 🚗 Nearby trips · Cambridge town itself: half a day to a day is enough, walkable · 1 hour north: York (York Minster + Shambles) · 1 hour south: Greenwich or a day trip to London · Where to stay: B&Bs in old town buildings with college spires outside the window; or stay in London, King’s Cross is 50 minutes to Cambridge Final thoughts: The rebellion of the post-80s isn’t against the world, but finally learning to be kinder to themselves. That doctoral gown isn’t worn for anyone else. It’s just to tell the past self: Look, I made it here too. The road ahead is long and winding—my 26-year-old self’s graduation ceremony is complete… But I sincerely hope your dreams are not over. Tell me in the comments, what is your “unfinished dream”? 📍 Place: York, England, United Kingdom ✨ What it felt like: I spent the day exploring on foot, and York was surprisingly easy to enjoy at a relaxed pace. The atmosphere felt lively but never overwhelming, with historic lanes, cafés, and centuries-old landmarks all within walking distance. 👀 What stood out: The city walls offered some of my favorite views, especially looking toward York Minster rising above the rooftops. The narrow streets around The Shambles were full of character, and there always seemed to be another hidden alley or historic corner worth photographing. I also noticed how walkable the city is, making it easy to see a lot without relying on transport. 💡 Exclusive tip: Start your morning with a walk on the city walls before they get busy. Then explore the smaller side streets around the center rather than sticking only to the main attractions. Some of the most memorable photo spots are found just a few minutes away from the crowds. ❤️ Personal feeling: What I enjoyed most was how York blends history with everyday life. It felt like the perfect place to slow down, wander without a plan, and share simple moments with family while discovering something new around every corner. #York #England #yorkminster #TheShambles #UKTravel #citybreak #tripmoments #travel2026#travel#couplestrip#thingstodo#familytravel
