It offers a stunning trekking route where you can take in the natural beauty of waterfalls, wildflowers, rivers, and snow-capped mountains. A shuttle bus runs from the ticket office to the entrance. The trek starts at the Lama Temple, offering two paths: a horse trail and a wooden boardwalk. Both paths are surrounded by the lush greenery of various trees. Soft ambient music plays from the speakers without disrupting the natural vibe. You can fully immerse yourself in an atmosphere filled with pure, fresh oxygen. There are plenty of stops for photos, but the absolute must-see is Muluozi. When I went, it was a vast, dazzling field of yellow flowers. With the snow-capped mountains in the distance and vibrant greenery below, the scenery was truly magnificent and breathtaking. The round-trip hike through the park is about 20 kilometers, so you need to come prepared. Make sure to bring enough food and water, warm clothing, sunscreen, and an umbrella. If you're sensitive to bug bites, bring some insect repellent. The weather is still quite cool during this time, hovering around 13-17 degrees Celsius. It warms up when the sun is out, but you can easily get sunburned. Once the sun goes down in the evening, the temperature drops rapidly. You’ll regret not going because its autumn is truly stunning—colorful forests, snowy mountains, lakes, and streams all come together to create scenes that look like movie masterpieces no matter how you shoot them. You might regret going because its beauty depends on luck; autumn lasts only a few days, and if you miss it, you have to wait a whole year. Location: Putou Township, Li County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, about a 3-4 hour drive from Chengdu. Bipenggou lies behind Mount Siguniang and is part of the Jiajin Mountain range, with elevations ranging from 2,000 to over 4,000 meters. The entire scenic area is distributed along the main valley of Bipenggou, with Bawang Peak to the north and Queen Peak to the south, flanked by continuous colorful forests. There are many attractions within the park, including Panyang Lake, Longwang Sea, Red Stone Beach, and Namu Lake—each worth stopping to admire slowly. Panyang Lake is, in my opinion, the most worthwhile spot in Bipenggou. The emerald-green lake is embraced by mountains, with golden meadows along the shore, a few ancient trees stretching their branches, and snowy mountains and colorful forests in the distance, all reflected on the calm lake surface. The day I visited happened to be sunny, and the light shining on the lake made the whole world bright. 💡Tips: Panyang Lake is deep inside the park and requires taking an electric shuttle or walking a certain distance. Taking the shuttle is recommended to save energy. Red Stone Beach is another scenic highlight of Bipenggou. The rocks along the riverbank show a vivid rust-red color due to a red algae coating on their surface. This red stands out especially under sunlight, creating a strong contrast with the adjacent emerald river water, making it very photogenic. However, Red Stone Beach is often overlooked by visitors because it is located beside the main road entering the park, and most people hurry inside, missing it. About timing: The best season to see Bipenggou is from late September to mid-October. The leaves change from green to yellow, orange, and red, with layers of colorful forests covering the hillsides. Combined with the distant white snowy mountains and the deep blue sky, the entire park looks like a spilled palette of colors. But the colorful forest season is very short, lasting only about ten days each year. If you miss it, you have to wait until next year. ⏰Best viewing period: Late September to mid-October. Day 2: Dujiangyan Day Trip🐼🤳 Go to Dujiangyan, 1 hour from Chengdu by Didi, or you can take the high-speed train from Xipu Station. Start with Panda Valley and back in town to take a photo with the famous panda selfie statue. Visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage. The water here has a beautiful blue color, and in the evening the area lights up beautifully. Day 3: Mount Siguniang🏔️ Travel to Mount Siguniang. Recommend Shuangqiaogou route, the most scenic and accessible valleys in Mount Siguniang. Stay overnight. Best restaurant : Ice axe cafe. Good vibe with yummy food. Day 4: Back to Chengdu🌇 Walk around Chunxi Road, then continue to Taikoo Li and the famous IFS building, where you can see the giant panda climbing on the building. When Daocheng Yading and Siguniang Mountain are crowded with tourists, I drove my four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle into the Genie South Route—a 230-kilometer scenic corridor in Western Sichuan that hides the true heart of the Hengduan Mountains. The 6,174-meter-tall Genie Sacred Mountain stands majestically deep in Litang, and June is its most beautiful season. Daytime temperatures range from 15-22°C, with wildflowers spreading from the mountain base up to the snowline, the grasslands as green as matcha cake, and the snow-capped peaks quietly towering at the edge of the sea of flowers. No crowds, no internet-famous spots packed with people, every day feels like stepping into a Hayao Miyazaki animation. 🚙 Three-Day Core Route: Day 1: Litang → Xiazetong Village → Eye of Genie Depart from Litang and head south along the Genie South Route. With many unpaved sections and unstable signals, a four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle is essential. After about 2 hours, arrive at Xiazetong Village, at an altitude of 3,885 meters, the gateway to the core area of Genie. In the afternoon, visit the Eye of Genie—a seasonal shallow pond formed by glacial activity, about fifty meters in diameter, an excellent natural viewing platform for the main peak of Genie. In June, the water is abundant, and the round water surface looks like the earth’s eye, reflecting the snowy peaks of Genie Sacred Mountain. The best time for photos is early morning or dusk when the light is slanting and the reflection is clearest. Stay overnight at a Tibetan guesthouse in Xiazetong Village, with the sacred mountain right outside your window. Day 2: Eye of Genie → Lenggu Monastery → Reti Valley In the morning, head to Lenggu Monastery, a thousand-year-old temple hidden deep in the valley, backed by snow mountains and facing the grasslands. In June, wildflowers bloom on the meadow in front of the temple, prayer flags flutter in the wind, and yaks graze leisurely. The main hall preserves precious ancient murals and Buddha statues, serene and solemn. In the afternoon, visit Reti Valley—the best place on the Genie South Route in summer for water colors and curves. The valley winds and twists, the stream glistens silver under the sun, flanked by green meadows and herds of yaks. Find a high spot to overlook the valley, which looks like a green ribbon floating at the foot of the snow mountains. Stay overnight at Hangda Starry Sky Camp, where you can gaze at the Milky Way at night. Day 3: Reti Valley → Zeba Tibetan Village → Return In the morning, visit Zeba Tibetan Village, an almost isolated Tibetan settlement. In June, the village is surrounded by a sea of flowers, with stone houses neatly arranged on the hillside and smoke curling from the rooftops. The villagers still maintain traditional lifestyles, their faces wearing simple, honest smiles. In the afternoon, return to Litang along the Genie South Route. The entire trip covers about 230-250 kilometers, and it is recommended to reserve at least 3 days and 2 nights for the core section to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. 💡 Practical Tips: Vehicle: Must be a four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle!
