Tried the Sicilian calzone on Bishopthorpe Road. It was massive, each bite had something different - the mozzarella was really good and the tomato sauce rich. Finished with a scoop of their fresh ice cream from the bar. Solid spot.

My gluten-free diet means I rarely get good cake. Their lemon and rose meringue was a proper treat. The whole menu can be made GF, which is a relief. My dog enjoyed his sausage, too.

The beef stroganoff pie was the special. Really generous filling, you could tell it was all homemade. The flavour was spot on, not too heavy. Just a good, solid pie.

Came in without a booking and they were so welcoming. The service was spot-on throughout. A highlight was the sommelier's suggestion for a red to go with the steak—really made the dish. Staff are genuinely attentive without being overbearing.

Five cheese and wine pairing. They explained each one, which was nice. Made for a good, relaxed evening. Service was a bit slow between courses, but the food itself was spot on. Solid choice if you're not in a rush.

Popped in after a walk. The pork belly was spot on - crispy skin, tender meat. Got a bit busy later, service slowed down. Decent spot if you're nearby.

Been coming here for years. It's that fireplace and wood paneling that keep me coming back - feels like a proper, cosy pub every time.

Solid risotto. Chicken and mushroom one was spot on. Tiramisu homemade, good texture. Staff were friendly. Decent spot in York.

The mixed roast was tender and full of flavour. They accommodated my request for it perfectly.

The breakfast was a highlight. Loved the fresh avocado on the sourdough, you could tell it was perfectly ripe. The poached eggs were just right. A really nice, healthy start to the day.

Love the old-school pub vibe here, feels just right for York. The bar looks great with those barrels. Staff were really friendly too.

The waiter was so easy to chat with. His tip for extra bread with the cannelloni was spot on, made the whole dish better. Really nice, attentive service without being over the top.

Came for a coffee and ended up staying for ages just watching the river. The staff were really nice about it, didn't rush me at all. That view is the real draw here.

The tomato salad. That's what I remember. The tomatoes were so fresh, the dressing sharp and bright. The spicy main dish was good, but the salad was the standout. Just a really clean, focused flavour.

Excellent pub, obviously loved by the locals who booked it out - so make sure you have a reservation. 6.30 seems to be when they all flock in. Our table was for 7pm so we ended up having a bit of a wait and to make an alternative choice for mains as ours was sold out. Well kept cellar - excellent beers and plenty of cocktails available. Will return when next in York

Been coming here for years, and the consistency is what keeps me back. The food is always solid, no surprises. Prices have crept up a bit lately, but you still get what you pay for.

The food was lovely, and our server Alice was so friendly. She checked on us just the right amount, which made for a really relaxed meal.

This place is amazing for a night out! The music was great, and the drinks flowed nicely. The staff were very helpful and made the experience enjoyable.

This pub offers fantastic value for money, especially with their lunch deals. The flatbreads were tasty and the service was exceptional.

Been coming here for years, and the private room upstairs is still my favourite spot. The view never gets old.

Generous portions, but the menu could use more fresh, healthy options.

Been coming here for years, and the Scotsman breakfast never lets me down. It's massive, keeps me full till dinner. The rest of the menu's good too, but I always end up ordering the same thing.

The coffee's served in a proper, big mug which I really liked. It's a nice, relaxed spot to sit for a while, especially compared to the much busier places inside the park.

The open kitchen is a good feature. You can see the fish being battered and fried fresh.

Good spot for a quick lunch. The spiciest dish actually had some heat, which was a plus.

Always packed at lunch but the staff keep things moving. Got my order in and out in under 10 minutes. Friendly check-out too. Perfect for a quick bite.

The biryani portion is huge, easily for two. Paired it with a lager, worked well. The tandoori prawns starter was tasty but a bit pricey.

We had the set menu for two. Portions were generous, and the wine pairing was spot on. For what we got, the bill felt about right. A solid meal without any surprises on the tab.

Lovely spot for a relaxed evening. The music was just right, not too loud. Had the grilled octopus and a glass of Rioja. Octopus was tender, nicely charred, good portion for the price.
