I wish I had more time! It is a great walk - be prepared to climb a lot of stairs. Midway is a quaint tea shop. A stop here to reenergize and continue to the top is highly recommended. Many visitors stop at the beginning and take a lot of pictures... Trust me, continue going. The crowd will thin, the noise will disseminate, the air will thin, and your amazement will grow. Go early and get to the top!

My husband and I went at dusk. Still a few people crowded around for photos but once you’re past them it’s clear sailing to the top of the mountain. Absolutely beautiful, there were multiple rest areas to grab something to drink or prey. Lights were lit along the way so it was easy to keep our footing.

Lovely place with the tori gates. I especially enjoyed the slow climb up with my friends on New Years!

This is probably Kyoto's most famous tourist sights. To get pics with no crowds, you have two options - waking up super early or heading all the way up! The torii (red gates) keep going for kilometers, all the way up the mountain, taking in some spectacular viewpoints over the city along the way.

A wonderful experience. Make sure you go to the top! There are lots of good opportunities for the famous photo shot if you get past the tourists.
