The only remaining remains of the 16th century Church of St. Jacques, which was demolished during the French Revolution in 1797, left only the towers. The remaining parts of the church were sold as building materials, the towers became shooting towers, and were later used to make ammunition. It was bought back in 1836 by the city of Paris and declared a French historical monument in 1862, and the towers were no longer alone.
