St. Dominic's Church Museum - Treasure of Sacred Art Review

Several World Heritage attractions in Macau have small attached museums including the Treasure of Sacred Art Museum at St. Dominic's Church in the Historic City Centre.Here visitors can explore several floors of gallery space, featuring over 300 church artefacts which came to the church by way of Portugal in in the 1830s. Most items are early 19th to late 20th century but some date back as early as the 17th century. There are nice artworks, sacristy items, wooden figures and other sacred treasures

Very beautiful, very quiet inside, embarrassed to talk, the decoration is very delicate. There are also people praying and worshiping inside, very religious, there are many cultural relics on display, it feels like an art museum.

The treasure house is located in Macau's famous "Rose Hall", enter the church to visit, and you can reach it by stairs. The treasure house contains more than 300 pieces of 17th to 19th century Catholic art treasures in Macau.

The treasure house belongs to the exhibition hall of Notre Dame Rose. After visiting the chapel, you can see the wooden ladder on the left side of the hall. Up the steps, it is the treasure house. There are three levels for display, equivalent to the height of four floors. There are many age-old teaching aids - "silver for mass, bronze, wooden statues, etc., and antique scepters placed on weapons shelves, hand-embroidered robes hanging in glass cupboards, and a large silver square banner. In addition, the most eye-catching are wood statues and biblical portraits. Every incarnation of the Virgin Daughter has a lifelike look and bright eyes. Especially Nossa Senhora, the conch-footed Virgin Nossa Senhora, with compassionate eyes, hands folded in prayer for peace, and four lovely lambs under her skirt looking up at the Virgin Mary. There is also a patient's Virgin Mother, wearing a crown, long hair over the shoulder, holding the Son in the hand, with all manner. It's so admirable to those craftsmen who have been able to create such a sacred image for more than 200 years.

At the end of the front of the forum, she will be attracted by the magnificent and beautiful Notre Dame Rose Hall. The chrysanthemum-yellow exterior walls and dark green doors and windows give her a charming youthful atmosphere. In fact, it is a church which has a history of several hundred years. After renovation and decoration, it has restored its glorious original appearance. During the maintenance, the staff found many icons, ceremonial articles and sacrificial clothes in the old cabinets of the church. These precious objects are now displayed in the treasure house next to the church. The treasure house contains nearly 300 religious works of art, some of which are donated by other churches or social figures. There are many kinds of Tibetan - "Gold, Silver and Copper utensils commonly used for Mass; wood, gypsum, Ivory holy images, lifelike; exquisite oil paintings and board paintings related to Bible stories; coloured patterns and priest's silk sacrificial clothes, gorgeous and delicate. The oil painting named "St. Austin" has a history of more than 300 years. The audience can learn about the history of Catholicism in Asia through these precious cultural relics. At the end of the top floor of the Holy Treasury, there are two copper bells, the oldest in Macau. Because of their age, their crisp bells have become absolutely loud.

From the small staircase next to the Rose Hall, there is the Hall of Saints. There are few people here who can observe these sacred objects carefully. I still like to see gold articles, more delicate, saints statues and clothes look a bit embarrassed. When I watched the documentaries of Spanish art and culture, I saw that some of the sacred vessels were placed in gold vessels with the body organs of the saints. So when we look at the Holy Age, we can only walk around to see the flowers.
