Tianyige Museum is located on the west bank of Yuehu Lake in Ningbo. It is a book collection culture museum centered around Tianyige, a private library from the Ming Dynasty. The Tianyige library was built during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1561-1566) under the direction of Fan Qin, a retired vice minister of the Ministry of War. With a history of over 400 years, it is one of the oldest surviving private libraries in China and ranks among the world's ancient family libraries. The building features layered bookshelves and preserved reading desks, exuding a profound scholarly atmosphere throughout. The entire museum is also a tranquil Jiangnan-style garden, with rockeries, ponds, and pavilions scattered across the east and south gardens, connected by rustic brick-and-wood corridors. The Mingzhou stele forest in front of the Zunjing Pavilion houses over a hundred ancient steles, many of which record the history of rebuilding prefectural schools in Ningbo through the dynasties. The calligraphy and painting gallery hosts various exhibitions year-round, occasionally showcasing its collection of precious artworks from different eras. Within the garden, you can also find Dongming Cottage, the book collection site of Fan Qin before the Tianyige Museum was built, the Fan Family Residence where the Fan clan once lived, and the Qin Family Ancestral Hall renowned for its Zhu gold-lacquered woodcarving opera stage. Easily missed is the Mahjong Origins Exhibition Hall, which was converted from the family ancestral hall of Chen Yumen, a Ningbo native in the late Qing Dynasty. Various mahjong sets and historical materials recount how modern mahjong took shape here and spread across the world.Ningbo · 1.4km from downtown

Dongqian Lake

Dongqian Lake is located in the southeastern suburbs of Ningbo, with an area three to four times larger than Hangzhou's West Lake. However, the lakeshore has been developed with various attractions that require an extra charge, making it seem slightly more commercialized by comparison. To enjoy the beauty of Dongqian Lake, you can pay to enter the attractions, while younger visitors often prefer cycling around the lake, taking in the scenery and photos for a delightful experience. Scattered along Dongqian Lake are multiple attractions such as Xiaoputuo, Dongqian Lake Taogong Island attraction, Dongqian Lake Fuquan Mountain attraction, Southern Song Dynasty stone carvings heritage park, and Youngor Zoo, along with some natural villages and small parks. People usually spend a weekend day or two visiting a few places of interest rather than touring all the attractions. There are several bus routes around Dongqian Lake that provide convenient access to almost all major attractions. Top attractions: Xiaoputu is a long causeway in the lake and a highly popular attraction at Dongqian Lake. You can take electric bikes directly to the waterborne Guanyin, but it's more recommended to walk along the causeway and enjoy the scenery of Dongqian Lake. Crossing the bridge from Xiaoputu leads to the Tao Gong Island attraction on the west side of Dongqian Lake, a local hotspot for barbecues and ideal for group activities like team building. Travelers with limited time need not make a special trip to visit. If you're bringing kids, Ningbo Wildlife Park on the north side of Dongqian Lake is a great choice. In addition to adorable animals, they can enjoy amusement rides like the merry-go-round and bumper cars. Dongqian LakeExploring the hidden: Dongqian Lake's attractions suitable for exploration are concentrated along East Ring Lake Road. The Southern Song Dynasty stone carving ruins park by the lakeside contains the tombs of five Southern Song Dynasty prime ministers. In addition to the grand tomb paths and stone archways, there are over 200 lifelike stone statues. The museum within the park outlines the history of the Southern Song Dynasty and the development of stone carving, and also displays many stone artifacts from surrounding areas, making it worth savoring in detail. Not far to the south lies the Fuquan mountain with vast tea fields, offering a pleasant view. During the peak season, you can also enjoy tea at the tea house on the mountain. Private vehicles are not allowed inside. At the ticket checkpoint at the foot of the mountain, there is a bus going uphill, but it only departs when full. During the off-peak season, the wait can be quite long, so be mentally prepared. If you choose to hike up the mountain, it takes approx. 1 hour. RidingDongqian Lake: Besides visiting attractions, cycling around Dongqian Lake is a highly popular activity, allowing travelers to leisurely enjoy the lakeside scenery and natural villages. There are dedicated bike lanes along the lake, and the attraction officially recommends cycling routes suitable for different groups. Bike stations are available at the traveler center, the southern water park, Mashan Wetland, and the northern Ningbo Wildlife Park, offering various types of bike rentals. In addition, there are multiple docks around the lake, featuring water buses, rowing boats, and speedboating, enabling round-trip rides to lakeside attractions or private cruises around Dongqian Lake.Ningbo · 15.3km from downtown

Located in downtown Ningbo, it's easily accessible, and parking is convenient even outside of peak tourist season. As expected of the largest private library, its collection of books and artifacts is truly impressive. You could easily spend half a day browsing through it, learning a great deal and gaining valuable knowledge.

Stepping into Tianyi Pavilion, the strongest impression isn't of a bustling, trendy tourist spot, but rather a quiet, profound atmosphere, imbued with the tranquility of a scholarly atmosphere. The guided tour was incredibly vivid and detailed; a guided explanation is essential to understanding the historical and cultural origins of this type of museum.

The sea here is incredibly clear, a vibrant blue like a giant sapphire, and the sand is so fine it feels like walking on cotton. The Asian Sailing Center's architecture is also very distinctive, perfect for taking amazing photos. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relax and unwind!

This trip with my two children on the Three Rivers Night Cruise was definitely a delightful surprise. The cruise departs from the Old Bund Wharf, a 50-minute journey traversing the Yaojiang, Fenghua, and Yongjiang rivers. Over ten bridges, including Lingqiao and Qinqiao, are brightly lit, and the reflections of the Corn Building and the Catholic Church on the river create a dreamlike atmosphere. The cabins are spacious and stable, so there's no need to worry about the children getting bumped or hurt. Stepping onto the deck and enjoying the summer night breeze is incredibly pleasant. The onboard audio guide narrates Ningbo's history in a captivating way, which fascinates the children and provides them with a glimpse into the local culture. The overall pace of the trip is relaxed and not tiring. The only downside is the short queue for boarding during peak season. Enjoying the blend of ancient and modern scenery on both banks while feeling the evening breeze is a fantastic family experience and definitely worth a visit to Ningbo.

Those who enjoy modern Chinese history should definitely visit this place. You can learn about Chiang Kai-shek's ancestral home and relatives. There are four locations, including Chiang's former residence and Wenchang Pavilion. The streets are bustling with many food stalls.

Xuedou Mountain Scenic Area boasts beautiful scenery, with mountains, water, and the Great Maitreya Buddha. Chiang Kai-shek's former residence is full of the charm of the Republic of China era and is worth a visit. I bought a combined ticket for the attractions; you scan it before entering each individual attraction, and it includes the shuttle bus within Xuedou Mountain, which was generally reasonable. The only downside was the cable car down and back from Qianzhangyan, which was a bit expensive. Currently, the small train is out of service; the main attraction after going down is the waterfall. The waterfall is quite spectacular. A round-trip cable car ride of 30 yuan per adult would be much more cost-effective, since the lower section is temporarily closed and you can only return.

Dongqian Lake Scenic Area is very large. A day's bike ride on an electric scooter, going counter-clockwise, covers 32 kilometers. Because the scenic area is so large, I think there are two main ways to experience it. The first is to take the subway from Ningbo city center to and from Dongqian Lake. You can either cycle the entire area or focus on specific spots. The second, and also recommended, option is to drive there, rent a car, or rent an electric scooter. I suggest finding a hotel near the lake, whether it's a budget chain or a four- or five-star hotel. Personally, I recommend staying at the Hilton Hotel, or looking for a lakeside café in Limin Village. These kinds of guesthouses cost between 400 and 600 yuan. Alternatively, you can stay at a Home Inn near the Dongqian Lake subway station for around 200 yuan. The best way to experience Dongqian Lake is to explore several cafés, whether you want to spend money or simply enjoy a relaxing experience. You can leisurely sit there, enjoy delicious food, chat with friends, or simply daydream for an afternoon. Then, if you wish, watch the sunset or sunrise before going out for a bike ride, or simply take a taxi to Hanlin Old Street or climb the mountain to overlook Dongqian Lake (where your name is located). Overall, it's a fairly pleasant place to visit; there's no need to rush. It's more suitable for a genuine vacation than a special forces trip or a checklist-style tourist experience.

I went on the 6th of the National Day holiday, and surprisingly, it wasn't crowded. The park is large and spacious. The weather was sunny and the flowers were in full bloom. There were many interactive activities, making it lively and fun. However, I felt the selection of food and drinks was rather limited.

The entire venue is indoors, so rain or heat won't affect your enjoyment; the attractions include both thrilling rides and family-friendly activities for younger children; there are also parades and stage performances, creating a great atmosphere; perfect for taking photos.
