Leaving a valued possession behind on a train can be a stressful experience, especially if you’re unsure of how likely you are to be reunited with it. But we have good news, as lost items on Thameslink trains are frequently returned to their customers, so all hope is not lost!

To keep your chances of recovering your misplaced item as high as possible, we’ll recommend what steps to take for reporting your lost property to Thameslink, as well as how to go about collecting it if it’s tracked down.

How do I get my lost item back from Thameslink?

The first step you should take when it comes to getting your missing item back from a Thameslink train is reporting it as lost via their lost property form. You can find the link to the Thameslink lost property form here.

You will need to fill in your personal details and contact information, and select the item type lost and its colour. If it’s a phone or laptop, you are asked to provide the IMEI or serial number. This can be found by consulting the box your device was delivered in, or contacting your network or device provider.

You will also be asked to describe the item and where it was lost, as well as details and the date, time and specific location in the station/train you last saw your missing item.

If your item was lost on a route that more than one train company operates on, Thameslink recommends reporting the item as lost to those companies too. You can find their contact information on Thameslink’s lost property page here.

It can take up to 14 days for you to be contacted about your missing item, but if you haven’t heard anything after that point, it is unlikely it has been found. You should also be aware that a collection fee applies when collecting your item, which corresponds to the value of your item.

Where can I pick up my lost item from Thameslink?

Once Thameslink has contacted you to say they have tracked down your missing item, you can collect it from their lost property office at City Thameslink station. The office is located towards the end of the platform near the escalators at the Ludgate end of the station.

The office opening hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 15:00.

If a courier service is available, Thameslink will advise you of this when they contact you about your item being found.
