Yongning Mosque

Chinese Islamic Mosque. It is located in the west section of Jinbi Road, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. According to the "Kunming County Chronicle", it and Nancheng Temple were built in the Yuan Dynasty by Sai Dianchi, a political official in Pingzhang, Yunnan Province. The original site was in the "Fish Market" on Donglai Street, so it was also called "Donglai Street Mosque". It was destroyed by war at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the Yongli period of Ming Dynasty (1647-1661) and renamed "Yongning Mosque". According to the inscription on the tablet, it was destroyed in the fire of Qing Xianfeng Bingchen (1856) when the Qing army suppressed the Hui uprising. The existing Yongning Mosque was rebuilt in the 24th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1898). The layout is a quadrangle courtyard, with a mountain-shaped gate to the north and a spacious patio inside the gate. There is a wooden plaque "Chaozhen Hall" hanging in the middle of the gate of the hall. It is 4 wide and 2 deep, with bucket-type beam frame. The area of the hall is about 200 square meters. In front of the hall, there is a porch with a roll-up porch, and the pilgrimage to Mecca is painted on the walls on both sides. Opposite the hall, there are 7 wing rooms, which are resting places for those attending the gathering. There are 1 classroom and 1 conference room on the side of the hall. The bathroom is located behind the boardroom. Although the size of the monastery is smaller than that built in the Yongli period, the education of the scriptures has been prosperous. Many imams and head teachers of mosques in Yunnan have studied here.
