Strolling through the air, admiring Mount Fuji
During this trip to admire Mount Fuji, I would like to introduce a great spot located in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
This place allows you to walk through the air and admire Mount Fuji🗻, the tallest mountain in Japan, as well as view the deepest bay in Japan, Suruga Bay. It is also home to Japan's longest suspension bridge, the 400-meter-long Mishima Skywalk, commonly known as the Mishima Skywalk.
It took 10 years from conception to the start of construction for this suspension bridge. Mr. Shunji Miyazawa, who ran a pachinko parlor in Shizuoka Prefecture at the time, liked to go hiking. During one hike, he discovered the beautiful scenery here and suddenly wanted to connect two highlands with a suspension bridge to allow more people to enjoy the beautiful view. So, he applied for a construction permit to the Mishima City government. At that time, such an application from a private individual was unheard of, and no one knew which department was responsible, leading to the Tourism Division and the Land Management Division passing the responsibility back and forth. The local residents also opposed it, fearing the destruction of the natural environment. However, ultimately, thanks to Mr. Miyazawa's relentless efforts, the suspension bridge was completed in 2015. Today, it has become the most popular leisure destination in Mishima City, attracting over a million visitors annually.
Visitors can not only stroll through the air to admire Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay but also experience various adventure sports in the forest, zip-lining, taste local cuisine, and purchase local specialties, among other things.
Personally, when I brought guests here to play, they also loved it very much. Taking a photo 'shoulder to shoulder' with Mount Fuji was also one of the most satisfying aspects for everyone.
