We stumbled on the gate house on our way back, the building is massive. The top seems to have rooms or at least looks like it. It is a great way to know where you are if you are in the main streets.

These look to be like giant old city gates at the head of the main road through the town. They are quite grand and in great shape.
Massive gate house

Well worth going out of the way
Rent an electric scooter and ride around Palermo. Make a stop at this amazing archway. This is part of the Norman Castle. Absolutely awesome.
