Yuantong Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Kunming, and it is also the largest monasteries in Kunming. It has been built in the Yuantong Street in Kunming City for more than 1200 years. It was built in the Nanyu era of the Tang Dynasty and was originally named Budala Temple. The Yuan Dynasty Dade five years (1301 AD (Xinchou Year)) built Yuantong Temple, Yuan Dynasty emperor "gifted Shujia". The expansion project took 18 years, and it was not completed until Yuan Yanxu six years (1319 AD (not yet)). During the Ming Dynasty, Yuantong Temple was expanded and the top of the mountain was built to connect the temple. During the Qing Dynasty, it was rebuilt many times.

Yuantong Temple is located in Jiuhuashan Scenic Area, Chizhou City, Anhui Province (6 kilometers southwest of Qingyang County), on the flat top of the mountainside of the east side of the "Lotus Peak", which is a place where the Tibetan king Jin Qiaojue Dongdu entered Tang Dynasty, Zhuoxi Jiuhua Yiyi, and is one of the ninety-nine open temples of Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association. Yuantong Temple has 2 temples, front hall houses, 2 floors, long 11.5 meters, wide 7.5 meters. The center of the hall is dedicated to the Western Sansheng. The left side of the hall is the Zhaitang, 9 meters long, wide 4.5 meters. The back hall houses, dedicated to the three Buddhas, and there are 3 boudoirs on the right side of the hall. The current area is 322 square meters.
