Yuantong Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Kunming, and it is also the largest monasteries in Kunming. It has been built in the Yuantong Street in Kunming City for more than 1200 years. It was built in the Nanyu era of the Tang Dynasty and was originally named Budala Temple. The Yuan Dynasty Dade five years (1301 AD (Xinchou Year)) built Yuantong Temple, Yuan Dynasty emperor "gifted Shujia". The expansion project took 18 years, and it was not completed until Yuan Yanxu six years (1319 AD (not yet)).
