    Ainu hero, shakushine!

    Original Text

There was a large park called Shinka Park on a hill on the south side of the town called Shizunai in Shinhidaka Town. This park was dotted with Ainu-related facilities such as the Ainu Folklore Museum. In the back of the park was a "sculpture of Shakushine". Shakushine was once the head of the Ainu around here. The statue we saw was a new statue that stands alongside the tower of Yucal.

    New shakushine statue

    Original Text

Shakushine is the chief of the Ainu who lived in the present Shinhidaka town. In Hokkaido, Ainu people 々 have lived since ancient times. The Matsumae domain was exclusively recognized by the Edo Shogunate for trade with Ainu people 々, but the dissatisfaction with the unfair and unilateral transactions of the Matsumae domain erupted. In 1669, Shakushine led the Ainu people 々 and fought a resistance battle. In praise of Shakushine, the statue ... in this place where he lived.

    Shakushine war

    Original Text

Shakushine that appears in the history textbook of junior high school. It is a person's name that you should know as a Hokkaido child. There is a statue in front of the Ainu Museum in Shizunai. It's a big statue.

    Chief of Ainu

    Original Text

I visited because my child wanted to investigate the Ainu through free research. The brave Shakushine statue that fought for the Ainu is bigger than I imagined and is powerful when I look up from below. The Ainu Museum is also right next door. I visited on Sunday before Obon, but the grass around me was also beautifully mowed.

    It's a statue.

    Original Text

It is a statue of Shakushine. It's old, but it may look great depending on how you move. Please try it while visiting the ranch.
