Yungai Temple

Yungaisi Town is located 19 kilometers west of Zhen'an County. It is named after the ancient temple Yungai Temple, and the locals call it Yunzhen. Yungai Temple was built in the Tang Dynasty. It used to be the main transportation route from Ankang to Xi'an. It still preserves ancient temples, ancient streets, ancient bridges and many ancient buildings. It is a "little Shanghai" hidden in the Qinling Mountains. According to legend, the Yungai Temple in the town was built by Wu Zetian, and it has been rebuilt several times. Entering from the mountain gate, there is a Miaoxiang Pavilion standing on the high wall on the right. The main hall, separated from the pavilion, is the center of the whole temple, and there are statues of Guanyin in it. The left side of the ancient temple was originally a waterfall spring, but now there is only a trickling stream. On the right side of the temple, there is Bai Shilang Cave, where Bai Juyi and Jia Dao wrote poems against each other. Since the Tang and Song Dynasties, Yungai Temple has been the first choice for businessmen and merchants in the surrounding areas to do business and live. It is very prosperous. The ancient dwellings on Qian Street in the town have various styles in Guanzhong, northern Shaanxi and Jiangnan, with white walls and grey tiles, painted under the eaves, tile carvings on the eaves, and roofs of Jialang pavilions. Most of the existing ancient buildings were built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. There are more than 40 courtyards of different sizes, and 31 are relatively complete. The ancient town is still the gateway to places such as Xianglu Mountain, Tayun Mountain Scenic Area and Muwang National Forest Park.
