People online keep comparing Armenia to Switzerland. Let’s be real—it’s not Switzerland, but for around RM2,000 a week (excluding flights), it’s actually a very good deal for budget travelers. As someone who prefers wandering around old towns and markets rather than rushing to ticking off tourist spots, here is my practical, no-BS review of my 7-day trip.

### The Good Stuff (What I actually liked)
· **Yerevan Old Town & Markets:** Instead of visiting ten different museums, I spent hours at the Vernissage flea market. If you like vintage stuff, handmade crafts, and old coins, you will love this place. Much better than buying generic souvenirs.
· **The Food is Cheap & Good:** You can get a massive plate of Khorovats (charcoal-grilled meat) for just a few Ringgit. Try the Lavash flatbread too—it’s super cheap and filling. Also, their local red wine is surprisingly decent and cheap because Armenia is one of the oldest wine regions.
· **Lake Sevan & Dilijan:** Lake Sevan is huge and the blue water is beautiful, though the wind can freeze you to death. Dilijan is surrounded by pine forests. They call it "Armenian Switzerland"—okay, maybe a budget version, but it’s a nice, quiet place to just sit in an independent cafe and do nothing.

### The Annoying Stuff (My complaints & pitfalls to avoid)
· **Monastery Fatigue is Real:** Armenia has ancient churches everywhere. Khor Virap, Geghard, Sevanavank... Honestly, after the third one, they all look the exact same. Don't force yourself to go to all of them unless you are a hardcore history buff.
· **Taxi Scams:** Do not simply hail a taxi on the street, especially from the airport or tourist areas. They will chop you double or triple the price. Download the Yandex Go app (it's their version of Grab). It’s super cheap and saves you from bargaining.
· **Airport Money Changer:** The rates at the airport are rubbish. Only change a very small amount there to get you to town, then find a proper exchange counter inside the big supermarkets in Yerevan city center (like SAS or Yerevan City) for much better rates.

### My 7-Day Relaxed Itinerary
· **Day 1-3: Yerevan Base.** Stayed in a basic, cozy Airbnb in the old town (around RM100 a night, very reasonable). Walked up the Cascade complex to see the city view (exhausting but nice). Did a day trip to Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery (carved into a cliff, which was actually quite cool).
· **Day 4-5: Lake Sevan & Dilijan.** Headed up to the mountains. Had some fresh trout near Lake Sevan (watch out for tourist pricing at the lakeside restaurants, ask for the menu with prices first!). Spent the next day chilling in Dilijan.
· **Day 6-7: Back to Yerevan.** Skipped the long drive to the faraway gorges because I hates long road trips. Spent my last days cafe-hopping, walking the backstreets of Yerevan, and buying cheap local wine.

### Practical Tips:
· **Dress Code:** If you want to enter the monasteries, women must cover their shoulders and knees. Keep a scarf in your bag just in case.
· **Weather:** The temperature drops crazy fast in the mountains, even in autumn/spring. Bring a proper windbreaker.
· **Exchange:** 1 MYR is roughly 80 Armenian Dram (AMD). Bring USD or Euros to exchange there.
