Alright guys! Currently on the African leg of my gap year, and I’ve just finished an incredible week road-tripping around the Western Cape. I’m a bit of a history and classic landmarks nerd, so I had a few absolute must-dos on my list. Honestly, it did not disappoint.

Here’s a quick run-down of how I spent my week, in case anyone is planning a trip down here soon!

📍 Days 1-3: Cape Town & The Peninsula
You can’t come here and not do Table Mountain, can you? It’s an absolute classic. The views from the top are unreal, especially after driving down Chapman’s Peak. I also made a stop at Stony Point to see the penguins—proper cute, and much quieter than some of the other spots! And of course, standing at the Cape of Good Hope felt like a massive bucket-list moment. So much history there.

📍 Days 4-5: Garden Route & Route 62
Took a drive along Route 62 and through the Wilderness National Park. The coastline is stunning, and the little coastal towns along the way have so much character. Walking along the cliffs at Tsitsikamma was brilliant, definitely recommend getting some proper walking shoes for that bit.

📍 Day 6: Addo Elephant National Park
This was my third 'must-see' landmark. Seeing these massive, gentle giants up close in the wild was just mental. Absolutely loved every second.

💡 Quick tips from my experience:
· The weather: Since it's their cooler season, it gets proper chilly in the mornings and evenings. Pack a decent windbreaker and a warm jumper.
· Plug adapters: They use those massive round three-pin plugs here, so make sure you get the right adapter before you fly out. I almost got caught out!
