During the Qing Dynasty, Ulan Butung was part of the Mulan Hunting Grounds. Because this is the site where Emperor Kangxi took command of the Qing army in the battle where Galdan Boshugtu Khan was killed, and even more so because of the beautiful European-style pastoral scenery, this has become a renown filming site for movies and television, famous both within China and overseas. The scenery here is graceful and beautiful. There are grasslands, mountains, rivers, dense forests, ancient battlefields and other ancient relics of war. This site contains both the elegant and graceful femininity of the South as well as the masculine strength and vitality of the North.
