Zhuge Bagua Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
I stumbled upon a treasure trove of an ancient village, which turned out to be a TV filming location
After deciding to find a midway stop to rest for the night on the way back, I chose this place. Since it was night when I arrived, I couldn't see much and only felt that the ancient town was very quiet, without the noise typical of tourist areas, and surprisingly there were no tourists during the Qingming holiday. It wasn't until the next morning when I stepped out of the guesthouse that I was truly captivated by the beauty of this ancient village. It was only while wandering through the streets and alleys that I learned this was the filming location for 'The Great Ming Under the Microscope'.
📢 Attraction Introduction:
⭕️ Zhuge Bagua Village is the largest known settlement of the descendants of Zhuge Liang to date.
⭕️ Originally named Gaolong Village, the village is shaped like the bottom of a pot, with the middle low and the surrounding areas high, forming a pond at the center. This is the core of Bagua Village and also the base point of the 'Eight Trigrams Formation'. Half of the pond is water, and the other half is land, resembling the Tai Chi symbol.
⭕️ Centered around Zhong Pond, there are eight alleys extending outward, leading directly to eight earthen mounds outside the village, resembling the eight trigrams.
⭕️ Zhuge Bagua Village in Zhuge Town not only has a unique layout, but the ancient residential buildings in the town are also very rare. The town was originally built during the Song and Yuan dynasties, with subsequent additions and renovations, reaching its peak during the Qing Kangxi and Qianlong eras.
⭕️ The town preserves more than two hundred ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. At its peak, there were eighteen different types of ancestral halls in the town, most of which were ornately decorated. The Grand Hall and the Prime Minister's Ancestral Hall are among the most outstanding.
⏱️ Recommended duration of visit: About 3 hours
🎫 Ticket information: 85 RMB per person
⏰ Opening hours: 07:30~17:00
🅿️ Parking information: There is a parking lot at the entrance of the scenic area, 10 RMB per time
📷 Recommended spots:
1️⃣ Zhong Pond: Half water and half land, with two wells in the middle. This is the very pond featured on the poster of the TV series 'The Great Ming Under the Microscope'.
2️⃣ Prime Minister's Ancestral Hall: The hall contains many Dongyang wood carvings, which are exquisitely crafted and lifelike. The hall's wooden beams are carved with scenes of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, as well as Lei Zhenzi and Yuwen Chengdu. It is said that the villagers handed over the ancestral hall to the government to be used as a granary, and the sculptures were preserved to this day by being wrapped in lime and mud.
🏠 Accommodation recommendation: We stayed at 👉 Lanxi Yuzhan Guesthouse
The landlord said that the guesthouse was his family's ancestral home, with a pharmacy and a pawnshop, probably the most beautiful guesthouse in the village. The guesthouse is quite large, even with a swimming pool, which must be very enjoyable in summer. Oh, and the guesthouse is one of only two places in the entire town that sells coffee.
🥗 Dining recommendation:
Due to the town's pristine nature, there aren't many dining options, and the taste is more or less the same. 👉 You can try the Old Street Restaurant
⚠️ Notes:
1️⃣ It is recommended to hire a guide for explanations, as it is an ancient village with many interesting stories;
2️⃣ Good food and drink are unlikely, as there is basically no commercial development, and there were hardly any tourists even during the Qingming festival, so you might want to try your luck during the May Day holiday;
3️⃣ After business hours at night, you can drive directly into the village parking lot and park for free
Explore the Mystery of Zhuge Bagua Village, a Historical and Cultural Treasure of Jinhua!
🌈Hello, friends, I'm here! This time I want to share with you a super unique place—Zhuge Bagua Village! 🎉
🏡Zhuge Bagua Village is located within the territory of Lanxi City, Zhejiang Province, and is a super mysterious and down-to-earth historical and cultural ancient village! This is the largest settlement of the descendants of Zhuge Liang, and there are still more than 4,000 descendants of Zhuge Liang in the village! 👨👩👧👦
💡The entire village was designed and laid out according to the ancestral Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams by Zhuge Liang's twenty-seventh-generation descendant, Zhuge Dasheng. It's super creative! The village is centered around Zhongchi, with eight alleys radiating outwards, forming the inner Bagua, and eight small hills surrounding the village, forming the outer Bagua. This design is unique in China! 😮
🏞️Strolling through the village, you can see many ancient residences and halls from the Ming and Qing dynasties, which are very well preserved, with more than 200 sites! Although they have been through hundreds of years, the layout of the village has never changed. The architectural style of 'blue bricks, gray tiles, horse head walls, fat beams, chubby columns, and small boudoirs' really makes one feel as if they have traveled back to ancient times. 🏛️
📍The address is inside the Zhuge Bagua Village Scenic Area on the 330 National Road in Lanxi City, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province (east side), and the transportation is very convenient. The ticket price is 90 RMB per person, but if you use the temporary parking lot at Beiloutang, you can enter for free! 🚗
🏞️Recommended attractions include Zhongchi, Dagongtang, Tianyitang, Kongming's Life Exhibition, Chancellor's Ancestral Hall, and the local culture exhibition hall Qingyutang, each with its unique story and charm. 🌺
🏨If you want to stay in the village for a night, I recommend the Lanxi Mushi Homestay, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the entire Zhongchi, and it will definitely make you linger. 🌌
🍴As for food, the Ancient Street Restaurant is a good choice. Their farmhouse sausage, tofu vegetarian buns, stir-fried wild vegetables, Zhuge small fish, and brine river shrimp are all super delicious! 😋
💖Well, that's all for this share! If you are also interested in Zhuge Bagua Village, why not go and explore it yourself? It will definitely be an eye-opening experience! 👀

Youbu Ancient Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Jiangnan's number one early morning tea street
You could ask me to guess a hundred times, and I would still find it hard to guess that the so-called number one early morning tea street in Jiangnan is located in the Youbu ancient town of Lanxi, Jinhua. In fact, it's just a small alley, but it indeed has a lively and homely atmosphere.
The meaty 'Rou Chen Zi' is a specialty, and there are many other kinds of snacks, such as sesame seed cakes stuffed with fried dough sticks, and Poria cocos and Gorgon fruit cake, which are quite delicious.
Youbu Ancient Town | Drive 400 kilometers just for this bite!
🥙
Youbu Ancient Town is really a food paradise
It gathers the culinary essence of Quzhou and Jinhua
Because the Quzhou and Jinhua regions are close to Jiangxi
So the local cuisine has both the spicy flavor of Jiangxi and the fresh sweetness of Zhejiang
⛩️
Youbu Ancient Town is located in the central and western part of Zhejiang Province, at the junction of Jinhua, Lanxi, and Longyou, with convenient transportation.
As early as the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, Youbu had a wharf, and it has always been an important agricultural and sideline product distribution and trading place at the junction of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Anhui, a commercial town, known as the 'first wharf upstream of the Qiantang River', one of the four ancient towns in Zhejiang for a thousand years, and the birthplace of the Qiantang River Poetry Road culture. It has a long history and profound cultural heritage, famous for its traditional cultural activities, and there are many cultural relics and historic sites.
The 'Yongji Bridge', 'Yongfu Bridge', 'Yongan Bridge', 'Taiping Bridge', 'Laoxi Bridge' built in the Qing Dynasty across the Taiping Creek in the town are collectively referred to as 'Five Horses Returning to the Trough', which is a unique feature in Jiangnan.
The ancient village, ancient creek, ancient street, ancient bridge, and ancient houses are well preserved. The town still retains the previous way of life, waiting quietly for visitors from all directions.
📍Location: No. 46, Dajie, Youbu Town, Lanxi City, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province

▫️Lotus leaf glutinous rice cake
▫️Youtiao glutinous rice cake (Sesame, brown sugar, soybean flour are all delicious)
▫️Crispy pork belly (Bake and eat now!)
▫️Egg skin fried dumplings
▫️Quzhou roasted cake (My personal favorite! A carb bomb in one bite)
▫️Big cake wrapped in youtiao (Eat from childhood! Very fragrant)
▫️Cowpea cake
▫️Fried fruit
▫️Scallion steamed bun (Scallion + pork + bamboo shoots, chop me if it's not delicious)
▫️Longyou small wonton
▫️Meat sinker (The first must-eat specialty in the ancient town!)
▫️Meatball
▫️Tofu rice ball
▫️Millet cake
🔺Original creation is not easy, plagiarism will be investigated
Do you like this slow-paced town?
Youbu Town is located in the southwest of Lanxi City, at the junction of Jinhua, Lanxi, and Longyou counties, and enjoys the titles of 'the first port upstream of the Qiantang River', one of the four ancient towns in Zhejiang for a thousand years, and the birthplace of the Qiantang River Poetry Road culture.
~
Features:
1. Youbu has many ancient bridges. The Youbu Creek that runs through the ancient town has the 'Taiping Bridge', 'Yongan Bridge', 'Yongji Bridge', 'Yongfu Bridge', 'Laoxi Bridge' built in the Qing Dynasty, collectively known as 'Five Horses Returning to the Trough', which is spectacular!
2. The day of the people in Youbu starts with morning tea, and the custom of drinking tea has continued for thousands of years. The prosperity of waterways and local commerce has cultivated the leisurely morning tea habit of Youbu people.
This ancient town of a thousand years retains its own pace and rhythm, not in a hurry, but in a long stream, it is a representative place for slow life.

Walk to the edge of the Lan River, and from atop the ancient city wall, you can enjoy a view of the Lan River Bridge and Zhongzhou Park, so comfortable!
🍽Food Recommendations:
This place is simply a paradise for carb lovers!
Chicken Kernels After trying three different stores, who knows! Found that each store has different fillings! Best to eat right out of the oven
Huanglongdong Beef Noodles Didn't think much of it before going, I've had plenty of beef noodles, but not many as chewy and springy as this. The owner only opens at 4:30 pm, and the business is very good~ Right next to it is the market, where you can watch plays, eat snacks , and see many grandparents with their grandchildren, a very local scene
Meat Pie, Tofu Sweet Rice Balls, Freshly Made Luwei, Ci Ba
Lanxi is considered to be the most healing and peaceful city I have traveled to so far , it's a small county town without excessive commercialization, where one can leisurely enjoy the scenery along the road
Come to Lanxi Ancient City for breakfast!
Lanxi offers a variety of satisfying carbohydrates.
The first stop in Lanxi is to have breakfast in Lanxi Ancient City.
1⃣️ The first place is a beef pancake with a fried dough stick inside, fragrant upon fragrant, even I, who don't usually like pancakes, was amazed.
2⃣️ The second place is tofu dumplings, unfortunately, I didn't get to eat them, just had soy milk. This place's tofu dumplings have quite a history, and many locals come early in the morning to eat. If you want to try them, come early; they're very popular!
The main street of the ancient city is mainly shops, with people selling and eating breakfast in the morning, which has a very lively atmosphere. There are also some celebrity former residences and historic houses, casually strolling around can lead to pleasant surprises.
A quiet ancient lane, it is a place full of ancient charms and magical stories in Lanxi Old Town. It witnessed the changes of Lanxi's years and is the landmark building in Lanxi City South. The alley is narrow and can't enter the car. It is more than 100 meters long and twists and turns. There is a mysterious atmosphere everywhere in the lane, the old houses of the ancient walls and the steep steps built by the mountains, all of which are awe-inspiring. Here, I witnessed the growth of a young boy. This place, carrying the generation of Lanxi people's "flying dreams"! May the peach blossom dock tomorrow will be more beautiful - the road is wide and green, and the peach blossoms compete.

I visited Hengdian World Studio ‘Palace of Emperor Qin’ and I was impressed with the architectural structure of the palace. The ground is huge and I spent 1.5 hours exploring the site including watching the coronation of the emperor performance. Costumes are available for rent where visitors can dressed up for picture taking mimicking their favourite film stars I.e Miyue 羋月 Many popular Chinese dramas were filmed here. As I am a fan of ancient costume dramas, I am glad to have the chance to step on the site where some scenes were filmed. Hengdian comprises of more than 10 studios but unfortunately I only managed to spend half day at this attraction while enroute to Hangzhou. To cover all the studios, perhaps will need to allocate at least 3-5 days as the studios are spread across the town and some sites are only open in the afternoon. I definitely will return to explore the other studios.
