The Royal Palace of Madrid is the third largest palace in Europe after the Palace of Versailles and the Royal Palace of Vienna. Built in 1738 and completed in 26 years, it is one of the most preserved and beautiful palaces in the world. The Royal Palace of Madrid was first built by the King of Isla Toledo in order to resist the invasion on the left bank of the Manzales River, and later occupied by Castile (the king of ancient Spain). In the 16th century, it became the Alczar in the ancient Alcazar. On Christmas Eve 1734, the city of Alcazar was destroyed by a fire, and Philips V planned to build a new palace in this place. The main structure of the palace was built entirely of stone and brick. There was no use of wood, so no fire could burn it in the future. The project lasted from 1738 until 1755, when King Charles III of 1764 used it as his official residence. In 1903, three Otis elevators were installed in the palace, known as Damascus Elevator, Carlos III Elevator and King Elevator. The latter is the only elevator that remains the same.
