In the southeastern corner of Sanam Luang, the temple worships the pillars laid down by King Rama I to mark the establishment of the new capital, Bangkok. It has a reputation for its divine power to achieve wishes. The pillar is made of Javan cinnamon and contains the constellations of Bangkok. There stands a golden "pillar of municipal administration" in the National Pillar Temple, where young women pray for many children and grandchildren.
