The square is surrounded by colorful small houses, and walking through it is like walking into a small Portuguese town. Opposite the slate square are colonial-era buildings painted in pastel blues and pinks. The blue buildings used to be slave markets, and there are still torture instruments used to torture slaves in the corners. The yellow building next to it is the Municipal Museum. The exhibition is mainly centered on Bahia culture, among which the carnival is more impressive.
