In the center of Japantown or Nihonmachi, you will find the Japan Center consisting of the Kintetsu mall, Miyako Mall and Kinokuniya Building. You can catch a view of a special art piece by Yoshiro Taniguchi (a famous Japanese architect) in the form of a 100 feet tall Peace Pagoda situated on the Peace Plaza. The malls contain an array of Japanese goods that cater to both locals and tourists as well as serve some of the best reputed sushi around. Here you will also encounter the only full Japanese bookstore in San Francisco with mostly Japanese titles and few in English. The stores at the Japan Center are built to provide the atmospheric appearance of an old Japanese village while providing a social environment many can enjoy.
