Yunlong Academy
Yunlong Academy has a history of over 300 years and is located on the western slope of Yunlong Mountain. The academy was founded in the 60th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign during the Qing Dynasty (1721 AD), when Jiang Zhao, the prefect of Xuzhou, established a charitable school at Huangmao Gang on the western slope of Yunlong Mountain in Xuzhou. By 1735, Li Genyun, another prefect of Xuzhou, transformed the charitable school into an academy.
In 1887, at the invitation of Xuzhou prefect Gui Zhongxing (1833-1897), the famous lyricist and top imperial examinee Feng Xu became the head of Yunlong Academy. Scholars such as Wang Qinlin and Liu Xiang served as teachers, nurturing students including Han Zhizheng, who was elected as a congressman of the Republic of China during President Sun Yat-sen's tenure. Other students from the same period included Xu Shuzheng, Zhang Boying, Zhang Yunsheng, Han Zhizheng, Qi Shizhuo, and Wu Zhitong. After the Xinhai Revolution, Yunlong Academy was destroyed in wars, having existed for 182 years.
The reconstruction project of Yunlong Academy was completed in 2014, consisting of seven courtyards from north to south. Along the central axis, there are sequentially a gatehouse, main gate, second gate, passageway, lecture hall, Wenchang Pavilion, and Yifu Hall, all of which are ancient Chinese double-eaved buildings, decorated with dark red glazed roof tiles. The overall architectural structure is brick and wood, maintaining the representative appearance of Qing Dynasty architecture.

😄 Coming from the museum or Hubu Mountain, go up the mountain from the north gate
The square in front of the museum has been renovated, and the north gate of Yunlong Mountain is now open, which leads directly to the top of Yijie Mountain, passing through the stone archway, Qu Gang jumping fish, Xi Yu Pavilion, Zhang Shanren's former residence, and Dashi Rock Temple. Then keep heading south to the observation deck.

Xinghua Zen Temple is equivalent to the east gate, where you can visit the temple and offer incense. The path leads up the mountain, and the exit is at the top of Yijie Mountain, Fanghe Pavilion, Zhang Shanren's former residence, and then turn left all the way south to the observation deck.
😄 Going up the mountain from the west gate, heading straight to the observation deck

There are two cable car boarding points, east and west. The west side is close to Yunlong Lake, and the cable car scenery is also different. At sunset, the entire lake is shimmering, and the distant mountains stretch on endlessly. Watching the sun slowly set among the mountains, the whole scene is like a huge landscape painting.
😄 Bao Lian Temple is also very worth visiting. The architecture is grand and atmospheric, and it's also very photogenic.

Baolian Temple Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Xuzhou Baolian Temple
"The ancient temple sits quietly on the mountain top, with incense smoke winding up to the blue sky." For those who come to Xuzhou, Baolian Temple might be the first choice for a visit. Founded during the Yongxing period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it is located on the southern slope of Pantao Mountain. The temple is famous for its Pantao Buddhist culture and is the first temple in China with an Indian style. Its patriarch, Master Faxian, was also the first monk in history to return from a journey to the West to obtain scriptures.
As soon as you get off the bus, you step into the Lotus Square, where a giant golden lotus blooms at the center of the square, as if some attraction is spreading, or perhaps it's because most of the visitors are young people!
Entering the temple, you first come to the Hall of Heavenly Kings, with its solemn and majestic architecture. Inside, the Four Heavenly Kings of Buddhism are enshrined. Amidst the chanting, a sense of respect arises at the sight.
Walking into the Mahavira Hall (also known as the Seven Buddhas Hall), the mural behind depicts the story of Guanyin of the South Sea. It is the largest single Buddhist-themed mural in the country, astonishing to behold.
The Tongtian Pavilion at the very back is the tallest Buddhist pavilion in the country, and it houses the largest indoor cast copper Buddha statue - the Tian Guan Maitreya Buddha statue. Looking up, it's like facing a tall mountain, awe-inspiring!
A visit to Baolian Temple is not complete without a bowl of vegetarian noodles. The noodle soup is made from various mushrooms, topped with a mushroom sauce, fresh and fragrant beyond the mundane! Accompanied by a vegetarian San Ding bun and special pastries, it's both tempting and meditative, lingering on!
Indeed, it is the most worthwhile treasure temple to visit in Xuzhou! (With guide
📍Xuzhou Pantao Mountain Buddhist Cultural Scenic Area (Baolian Temple)
🎫Admission is free, just scan the code at the entrance 🐎 no need to book in advance
⏰Opening hours: 6:00-17:00 (No entry after 16:00)🚕Bus/Taxi (It cost me just over ten yuan to take a taxi from Xuzhou East to Baolian Temple)
🐼Upon entering the park, there are panda trays on both sides, each person can help themselves to three incense sticks.
.
🍜Baolian Temple Vegetarian Noodle House: After entering the park, you can see long queues on both sides, just join the shorter line 🤣
Meals: Vegetarian noodles/Chinese pastries/Buns
Vegetarian noodles 15r💰About twenty minutes wait, tastier than I expected, with toppings like mushrooms, wood ear fungus, greens, dried tofu, and carrots🥕
Vegetarian bun 3r💰Stuffing with greens and mushrooms
Three-ding bun 4r💰Pleurotus eryngii, dried tofu, and bamboo shoots
Both are very delicious!! Quite large and very filling!
Many people bought pastries, which are delicate and cute, but I was too full to try them so I don't know how they taste.
.
🪷Tongtian Pavilion: The last spot inside the temple, great for taking photos!! Inside the hall, you can draw lots and copy scriptures (10r💰)
Here is the most comprehensive guide to Bao Lian Temple in Xuzhou
🚌Transportation:
You can choose to take a taxi or ride a shared electric scooter🛵 (two girls can ride together). The starting taxi fare is 8 yuan, with no price increase at night, which is cheap and convenient.
📷Visiting:
➡️Right at the main square of Bao Lian Temple is a large golden lotus🪷 building, which is very exquisite and aesthetically pleasing
➡️To the right of the lotus, the visitor center offers luggage storage🧳 and sells creative cultural ice cream for 15 yuan per stick (beautiful and delicious, 5⭐️ highly recommended)
➡️Upon entering the temple, you can freely take a tray of three incense sticks from the panda🐼 tray to use for worship
➡️Continuing forward, you will see the vegetarian noodle house. It is advised to buy pastries earlier rather than later, as they may sell out
➡️Inside the temple🉑️, you can visit and worship at will, divination is 10 yuan per fortune, and you can look up the interpretation on Baidu if you don't understand it. For blessings (there are two masters in the Guanyin temple who can pray and chant scriptures for you, a donation for incense is sufficient)
➡️If you want to get a stamp, go to the 'Guest Hall' behind Guanyin, where you can get a free🆓 stamp📒
➡️The place to eat noodles on the lower right side after getting a stamp is relatively less crowded than the noodle house at the entrance
⚠️Avoid:
1⃣️Wearing short skirts, shorts, flip-flops, or other clothing that exposes too much skin
2⃣️When entering the hall, do not step on the threshold; cross it to enter
3⃣️After entering the hall, do not talk, eat, or preferably take photos (two lights shine together, one will be harmed. I heard this, so I never take photos of Buddha statues in temples)
4⃣️If you're not specifically there to ask for wealth or career success, don't make too specific requests when worshiping, such as asking the Buddha to bless you with a promotion and a raise next year or success in a certain matter. If the wish you make casually comes true, you need to return to the temple to repay your vow, otherwise, there will be negative consequences... (This was a reminder from a tour guide during a previous trip) After all, if it's a wish made without intention, you might forget it
5⃣️It's a good idea to prepare some change🪙 in advance for donations
🍜Eating:
✅The vegetarian noodles at Bao Lian Temple are very popular online🔥, and they indeed taste good with a fresh soup. It's also recommended to try the vegetarian buns, which are also very good👍
✅As for pastries, they taste good, 🈶️ with six different flavors and shapes, beautiful and delicious. If you want to buy them, you should go early to the place where they sell vegetarian noodles, as they may run out later. 💰38/box
📿Bracelets:
✅💰48 Bao Lian Temple's eighteen-seed bracelets are very popular🔥, but many netizens reported strange reactions after wearing them, so I didn't buy one
✅I bought two other styles, which are also very beautiful and I like them a lot
There are many consecrated items, such as combs, phone lanyards, bracelets, prayer beads, bangles, hairpins, etc.
✅Don't follow the trend, choose what you like.
⚠️⚠️⚠️Consecrated items should not be worn while bathing or sleeping, they must not come into contact with water, and should not be placed in the bathroom, toilet, or kitchen❗️❗️❗️
After leaving Bao Lian Temple, you can go to the snack street to walk around, eat snacks, or have a barbecue
You should visit the Bao Lian Temple in Xuzhou at least once in 2024
In this era, we are not short of jokes, but of truth; not short of affection, but of sincerity; maintain passion, and head towards the mountains and seas.

The Qianlong Imperial Palace—giving people in Xuzhou, located in northern Jiangsu, a rare taste of the southern Jiangnan charm.
Gray bricks, red walls, green tiles, it's really hin suitable for photography and even encountered three couples taking wedding photos. The new Chinese style really has an atmospheric feel! The solemnity of the red walls and the gentle grace of the silk-like mist! Although it's small in size, it's very worth visiting.

Food recommendations
🥸 Breakfast: It's suggested to try the Ma Shi Street sa soup, seriously there are so many options, remember to bring an egg. When I went there, it was so crowded that I chose a set meal, which included a little bit of everything, and I thought it was quite good and not too expensive. The key point is that the first floor was too crowded, really no place to sit. After eating, you can take a walk nearby, opposite is an ancient building where you can digest your meal.
🥸 Lunch: It's suggested that everyone could try the local pot chicken
🥸 Dinner: You can wait until later in the evening to go to Fuguo Street for snacks. Xuzhou is especially lively at night. You can go for a Yunlong tea. Fuguo Street is full of eateries, and the 1818 Food Plaza is also very close, about a 5-minute walk. These two places are great for wandering, eating, and drinking.

Next, let's talk about how to get here. You can drive or take the bus, but I suggest choosing the 'airborne' mode, which allows you to quickly reach your destination and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, killing two birds with one stone!
As for the attractions, the Metasequoia forest is a must-visit. The Metasequoia trees here soar into the clouds, like a green barrier of nature. You can play hide and seek here, or have a 'tree-hugging' battle with your friends, guaranteed to make you laugh!
Besides the Metasequoia forest, the observation deck is also a good choice. Standing here, you can overlook the entire lake and feel the grandeur of nature. If you bring a telescope, you can even see the little animals playing in the distance, which is really interesting!
Finally, don't forget to try the outdoor activities here. Cycling, hiking, barbecuing, picnicking... there's always something for you. Barbecuing by the lake, eating delicious food while enjoying the lake and mountain scenery, the feeling is simply too cool!

The spontaneous trip to Xuzhou
2023 June 2nd - 4th
Transportation: Tianjin ➡️ Xuzhou East Station, there are many trains, and it takes only 2-3 hours to arrive.
Accommodation: Choose hotels near Suning Plaza or Pengcheng Square, where most dining, entertainment, and travel conveniences are located.
June 2nd Tianjin ➡️ Xuzhou ➡️ Pengcheng No.1
From Xuzhou East Station, take the subway line 1 to Pengcheng Square Station. Asked the hotel reception girl which barbecue in Xuzhou is good, "Big Boss Chen's Lamb Skewers", very characteristic of Xuzhou, with baked flatbread and barbecue, delicious. In the evening, I strolled around the 1818 Night Market near Pengcheng No.1.
June 3rd Xuzhou Museum ➡️ Hubu Mountain ➡️ Xima Terrace ➡️ Yunlong Lake Yunlong Mountain ➡️ Huilong Nest
For breakfast, the most famous "Mashi Street Soup" shop requires a 40-minute queue, so everyone can also choose accordingly. Took a taxi for 2 kilometers (actually walkable) to the Xuzhou Museum, which is free but requires advance reservation, and you enter with your ID card. Three floors, divided into different sections, just follow the route for the visit. It's quite shocking how many Han tombs you can find just by digging around in Xuzhou. About two hours are needed. In the afternoon, wandered around Hubu Mountain and Xima Terrace area. Hubu Mountain is a cluster of ancient wealthy residences.
Coming out of the Hubu Mountain residences, continue walking to the highest point, which is Xima Terrace, where the Western Chu overlord Xiang Yu established his capital in 206 AD. Because Xima Terrace is a bit higher, it was never submerged and still retains some ancient relics. It takes about an hour to visit. Then went directly to Yunlong Mountain and Yunlong Lake, it was cloudy so not too sunny, and I must say the weather was perfect (smug bee).
Yunlong Lake is just across the road from Yunlong Mountain, with a total height of 88 meters, we bought cable car tickets, 50 yuan for a round trip, and the places to get on and off are different, so pay attention to this. Overlooking Xuzhou from the mountain. By the time we descended, it was already 5 pm, went straight to "Baiwei Clay Pot Chicken", an old Xuzhou dish. For dinner, went to Huilong Nest, it's more suitable to take a taxi with a few people.
The ancient buildings and lights at night are very matching. The consumption here is slightly more expensive, but still considered low. A great place for those who like to take photos.
June 5th Guishan Han Tomb ➡️ Baolian Temple
Took a taxi from the city center to Guishan Han Tomb, the ticket price is 80 yuan, but around 72 yuan per person on the APP, the craftsmanship of digging caves in the mountains over 2000 years ago is amazing. We hired a guide for 90 yuan (thumbs-up bee).
The last stop of this trip was Baolian Temple, which is very popular, and those interested can look into it. The overall temple is very majestic and spectacular. No entrance fee, just scan the QR code to enter. Out of respect for the Buddha statues, I didn't take photos, just some of the exterior buildings, very beautiful.
The trip to Xuzhou was rushed, but the overall impression was very good. Xuzhou could have relied on its historical and cultural heritage to develop its tourism industry, but it chose to develop its industrial manufacturing industry instead, with 70% of the industry belonging to XCMG. It's a city with both strength and effort , very clean overall, with heating in winter, and flavors that suit northerners, heavy on salt and spice, suitable for those who like history, short trips, and have limited time
Yunlong Lake Scenic Area - The Natural Beauty Among the Lakes and Mountains
Yunlong Lake Scenic Area is located in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, and is a picturesque natural scenic area. Here, the mountains and water complement each other, creating a scenic wonderland that has attracted countless tourists for sightseeing and recreation. This article will cover three aspects: an overview of the scenic area, an introduction to the attractions, and recommendations for visitors, to showcase the charm of Yunlong Lake Scenic Area.
Yunlong Lake | The "West Lake" hidden in Xuzhou, where the experience is absolutely fulfilling
The "West Lake" hidden in Xuzhou offers an experience that is absolutely fulfilling. Today, I would like to introduce a scenic spot in Xuzhou, Yunlong Lake, which can be regarded as Xuzhou's West Lake. The water here is very clear, and the lake has a large surface area. Along the lake, there are many garden landscapes and greenery to enjoy, and strolling by the lake is a very pleasant thing to do. More importantly, there are few people here, allowing for a quiet and leisurely appreciation of the scenery. Below are a few spots worth visiting.
1 Introduction to Yunlong Lake
Yunlong Lake in Xuzhou is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is larger than West Lake. It is mainly divided into East Lake, West Lake, Little South Lake, and Pearl Mountain. In addition, there is an aquarium on the lake.
2 Su Gong Tower
Located on the eastern shore of Yunlong Lake on Jingshan Mountain, Su Gong Tower is a Song Dynasty-style pagoda built to commemorate Su Dongpo. It is a five-story octagonal tower covered with golden yellow glazed tiles. The tower reflects the surrounding bamboo groves and maple leaves, creating a beautiful and artistic atmosphere. In summer, when the lotus flowers in the nearby lotus garden bloom, the scenery is even more beautiful.
3 Metasequoia Trail
Continuing south from Su Gong Tower, you will come to a metasequoia forest. The tall and straight metasequoia trees reach into the clouds, and a wooden plank trail winds through them. In summer, when the metasequoia trees turn completely green, there is a mysterious and profound feeling reminiscent of a twilight forest.
4 Little South Lake
Although Little South Lake is small, it is exquisite. The beautifully landscaped greenery, combined with arch bridges, corridors, and pavilions, creates a beautiful Jiangnan scenery.
5 Submerged Corridor
The most distinctive attraction in Little South Lake is the Submerged Corridor. The corridor is built under the surface of the lake, and walking through it feels like being in the water, surrounded by swimming fish and seaweed, offering a very unique experience.
6 Pearl Mountain
In front of Pearl Mountain on the west side of Little South Lake, there is a large lawn with lush green grass and colorful flowers, as beautiful as an oil painting. Pearl Mountain is not high, and climbing to the top allows for an overview of Yunlong Lake.
Practical Information: The scenic area is free of charge
Tour Route: Starting from Su Gong Tower, take a clockwise tour around East Lake, passing through the metasequoia forest, Little South Lake → Pearl Mountain → Lake Middle Road, and finally reaching the Binhu Xintiandi Pedestrian Street on the north side of East Lake.
Tour Time: Half a day to a full day.
Yunlong Lake is very suitable for a leisurely stroll around the lake, and you can also cycle around the lake.

Yaowan Ancient Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
After the tourist season, the ancient town of Yaowan in Jiangsu has become deserted, and the night view is not beautiful.
Jiang'an Yaowan Ancient Town is located on the shore of Luoma Lake in Xinyi City, Xuzhou. It is adjacent to Suqian City and has prospered since ancient times. Yaowan is known as the first ancient town on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and has a history of more than a thousand years. After the hoh/11 tourist season, the ancient town of Yaowan began to become deserted. There were not many tourists in the ancient town. At night, it was almost empty, but the night view of the ancient town was still beautiful.
Take in the old town at night, although there are no tourists, the lamp is still on, more beautiful than the daytime. The size of the ancient town of Yaowan is not too large, and some are being built.
Commercial street in the ancient town, there are many old shops and restaurants on this street, but there are not many normal business, maybe only weekend visitors will have more.
The old town of Yaowan in the daytime also has few tourists. The ancient town feels clean and tidy. From the gate of the north gate, there is a large piece of ancient architecture on one side and Laojiao River on the other. The
Laojiao River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal meet here. The ancient town is surrounded by water on three sides. The ancient town of Yaowan has some spirituality due to water. More than 100 years ago, Guzhen was a north-south water transport hub and an important commodity distribution center.
There are many old shops on the old town of Yaowan, which were preserved at that time. There are pawnshops, sauce gardens, wineries and many clubs in the ancient town, as well as a Catholic church, which has a history of more than 100 years.
The commercial street during the day is still deserted, and there are not many merchants opening. The ancient town of Northern Jiangsu is different from the ancient towns of Zhouzhuang and Tongli in Jiangnan, and prefers the ancient town of Yaowan under the night.
The ancient town of Yaowan has been formed for more than two thousand years. The ancient town area is surrounded by water on three sides, facing the land and perfectly matching with nature.
Dongwang and Hai, South Huaiyu, Xigu Pengcheng, Beizhan Taihao.
Away from the kiln bay of the city, it has not been destroyed by the war, but with the vicissitudes of history, it has lost its original prosperity.
Flying in the air townspeople, tell me a few core points, the ancient town in the sunset, the sun is not dazzling, holiday resort recommended.
May Day Travel Guide | An ancient town favored by time
🍵Everyone has a fondness for ancient towns in their heart. Take advantage of the beautiful spring weather to bring your family and friends to Yaowan Ancient Town during this May Day holiday to experience the charm of Xuzhou's number one ancient town on the Grand Canal. Find a quiet spot to slowly savor the fragrance of tea and enjoy the slow pace of life.
🏠The beauty of Yaowan's architecture lies in its integration of southern and northern features, which is closely related to its geographical location. The Grand Canal connects the south and the north, and as an important node, Yaowan is where southern and northern cultures collide and blend. Therefore, the architectural style of the ancient town is both delicate like the south and bold like the north.
1️⃣Wu Family Courtyard: A typical northern architecture, but with high and small windows, tight courtyards, and thick walls, it has the function of protecting against typhoons and heavy rain, hence it also has the architectural legacy of the Fujian coastal area.
2️⃣Suzhenyang Guild Hall: Built during the Qing Dynasty's Kangxi era by merchants from Suzhou, Zhenjiang, and Yangzhou, hence named Suzhenyang Guild Hall. The backyard is now the 'Suzhenyang Inn', integrating accommodation, dining, and conferences. With pavilions, terraces, bridges over flowing water, it is full of poetic and scholarly charm, highlighting the style of Jiangnan gardens.
3️⃣Sanjin Courtyard: After the 'Opening of the Canal for Transportation', Shanxi merchants came to Yaowan to do business, where they set up banks and pawnshops and built the Shanxi Guild Hall. The Sanjin Courtyard, as the backyard of the Shanxi Guild Hall, is now a Shanxi-themed inn. The architecture with its bracket sets, flying eaves, colorful decorations, and majestic atmosphere, and elements such as wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, and lacquerware, all exude the splendid brilliance of Shanxi culture.
4️⃣Catholic Church: Originally built in 1909, it was rebuilt on the original site in June 2011. It features European Gothic architectural style, with twin towers reaching 40.6 meters high. The towering spires and colorful stained glass showcase the mysterious and sublime artistic charm.
😋Yaowan Boat Cuisine: 'Fresh, blended, healthy, refreshing', with a rich variety of dishes, traditional dishes are integrated with innovative ones to meet the needs of different diners!
Come to Xuzhou to experience the legacy of the Han Dynasty's glory
Although I don't think Xuzhou is a typical tourist city, it is full of historical and cultural charm. The most attractive sites include the Guishan Han Tomb and the Xuzhou Imperial Edict Museum. The former displays the style of the Han imperial family's mausoleums; the latter is a themed museum where you can see many interesting ancient 'cheating artifacts' up close.
