Gansu Provincial Library, founded in 1916, first named Gansu Public Library, changed its name to Gansu Provincial Library in 1932, changed its name to Lanzhou Provincial Library in 1942, founded the National Northwest Library in 1944, and merged into Lanzhou People's Library in October 1949. In 1953, it was renamed the Gansu Provincial Library.
