It is a short ride to see the wheel pool around the bridge area where water from Pacific Ocean enter the narrow gate way and created the wheel pool effect. Lots of local tourists.
It's true it will be a great experience, but if you expect "big tornado", you will be disappointed. You need to schedule according to the spring tides.

The cruise takes about an hour. The weather was very nice when I went there. Tidal whirlpools were dynamic, I saw many of them
