Pingxiang Museum

Pingxiang Museum is located at No. 376, Binhe East Road, Pingxiang City. It is adjacent to the Autumn Harvest Uprising Square and Rainbow Bridge, facing Jinluo Peak and Huxing Mountain, backed by Pingshui River in the west, and connected to Ehu Park in the lower part. The main building of the new museum is 6 stories high and 28 meters high, covering an area of ​​about 26,000 square meters and a construction area of ​​about 16,900 square meters. There are exhibition areas, folk customs areas, history lecture halls, administrative office areas, and audience service areas. Pingxiang Museum is a specialized institution for the protection, research and display of historical and cultural heritage and human environmental evidence. It is a comprehensive modern museum integrating collection, archaeology, research and display. In 2018, Pingxiang Museum was listed as a national second-level museum by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Pingxiang Museum currently has 4,501 pieces/sets of cultural relics in its collection (actual number 13,755 pieces), including: 21 pieces/sets of advanced level (actual number 26 pieces); 74 pieces/sets of secondary level (actual number 80 pieces); 917 pieces/sets of tertiary level (actual number 1,360 pieces). In addition, there are 517 cultural relics and 363 natural remains, including 248 dinosaur egg fossils from the late Cretaceous period and a natural specimen of great archaeological value, a giant Ganoderma lucidum that is "rare in the world and the first in Asia". These collections reflect the development context, cultural features and local natural heritage of Pingxiang in various historical periods from different aspects and angles. From 2002 to 2014, 248 dinosaur eggs were found in the Cretaceous red strata in Pingxiang, and dinosaur skeleton fossils were found in the same geological layer in the same area in 2008, which is extremely rare in the country. Pingxiang has become one of the most important dinosaur egg fossil production areas in South China.
