Chongqing Apartment

Chongqing Apartment is located at the intersection of Chongqing South Road and Fuxing Middle Road in Shanghai. It is a European-style apartment building built 90 years ago. The brown exterior wall is decorated with tall white columns, which makes the building look both magnificent and very stable. American journalist and social activist Smedley lived in this apartment.

Smedley came to China at the end of 1928 and spent 12 years in China. At the beginning and middle of the war, she witnessed Japan's aggression against China and gave a voice to the world of justice. Died in 1950.

Chongqing Apartment was also called "Luban Apartment" at the time, belonging to the Art Deco Apartment Building, Shanghai's excellent historical protection building, and also the former residence of famous American journalist, writer and social activist Agnes • Smedley, Motelley with Germany "Frankfurt Times" Special correspondents come to Shanghai, rent here as the newspaper office.

Chongqing Apartments is formerly known as Luban Apartments located at the intersection of Chongqing South Road, Fuxing Middle Road, No. 185 Chongqing South Road, Shanghai. The apartment was built in 1931 and was named Luban Apartments because it was located on Luban Road at that time (now Chongqing South Road). From 1929 to 1931, Agnes Smedley, an American journalist and writer, lived here.
