We at Trip.com may be known for our superb holiday deals, cheap flights and our best-in-class travel app - but we feel it's our duty to recommend some fantastic music festivals for you to experience this summer. Why not eh? We've had 2 years largely without them, and you still have to travel to attend…

So, we're offering our own list of recommendations. Here we're highlighting a selection of 8 gatherings of musical acts to dance, mosh or sing along in a large open space to. We're not including the likes of Coachella or Glastonbury, as both have been sold out for a long time. So here are some of our recommendations for festivals in Europe this summer (tickets are still available at the time of going to press). Don't forget to book your flight or - if staying in a tent isn’t your thing - hotel with us…

When: 24 - 26 June

For fans of: Pop, indie, dance

Balearic Islands in late June, coupled with a hugely fun music event? We think it's a no-brainer for the exuberant festival-goer. Justice, Christina Aguilera and Editors bring the dance, pop and indie respectively, while Muse (who it seems like are on a lot of bills this summer …) headline on the Sunday. Mallorca Live Festival is going to be a lot of fun in 2022. Click here to book now Mallorca Live Festival tickets

Location: The old Aquapark in Calvià. Check out our list of hotels to book your accommodation…

Mallorca Live Festival

When: 15 - 31 July

For fans of: Dance and electronica

Tomorrowland festival, found in the surrounds of beautiful Flanders, is something of a rite of passage for electronic music fans. Taking place across 3 weekends in July, pretty much every DJ or producer you can think of will perform at one of the best-known dance music festivals in Europe.

Location: Tomorrowland is located in Recreational Domain De Schorre in Boom, Belgium - between Antwerp and Brussels. If you want to drive, we strongly recommend pre-purchasing parking tickets.

When: 6 - 10 July

For fans of: Metal, rock, indie, hip hop, pop - everything, really...

Metallica, Stormzy, Muse - some serious music heavyweights are performing at the appropriately-named Mad Cool Festival. The names listed below the headliners are just as impressive, as 60,000 attendees per day will attest to. Expect plenty of party vibes and high temperatures at this hugely popular European summer festival.

Location: Valdebebas in North-eastern Madrid - there are trains near here, and Mad Cool is conveniently close to Barajas Airport.

When: 19 - 28 August

For fans of: Dance, indie, alternative

We're cheating here slightly, as All Points East isn't so much a festival as a collection of mini festivals, all taking place in the latter half of August. Gorillaz, Tame Impala, The National, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Disclosure headline the main events, with the 'festival within a festival' Field Day hosting a huge roster of names too.

Location: Victoria Park, the biggest green space on the eastern side of London. Easily accessible by Overground, the tube, and bus.

When: 6 - 9 July

For fans of: Rock and indie

Four days of live music in the suburbs of beautiful Lisbon, during the first weeks of the summer. Sounds pretty magical to us. And there are some stellar names as well, with Metallica, The Strokes, Florence + The Machine and other huge performers taking the stage at this very highly-rated music and arts extravaganza.

Location: Oeiras, in the Lisbon metropolitan area. Near the beach, and airport too - why not extend your stay and make it a bit of a holiday?

When: 11 - 12 June

For fans of: Hip hop, dance

50 Cent, Tyler, The Creator and Megan Thee Stallion are the big hip hop names at Manchester's Parklife festival. A range of electronic artists will also perform at a city that can confidently lay claim to being the home of UK dance music. The only thing you'll need to hope for is a-typical British summer weather…

Location: Heaton Park, a beautiful 18th century manor and garden north of the city centre. It has a tram stop near by - aptly-named Heaton Park Tram Station - if you need public transport. Expect it to be on the busy side during the festival weekend.

When: 10 - 12 June

For fans of: Indie

Berlin may be famous for its techno scene, but with Tempelhof Sounds hosting the likes of The Libertines, Interpol, The Strokes, Alt-J and Maximo Park, this is surely one for the indie fans out there. Tousled hair, skinny jeans, and scarves are all sure to be in attendance. And it's set in the grounds of a disused airport! How's that for some surroundings?!

Location: The Berlin Tempelhof Airport, one of the first in the city, which closed back in 2008. Located south of the city centre, you can get here by metro (U-Bahn) line 6 to the Platz der Luftbrücke.

When: 7 - 10 July

For fans of: Dance, indie, hip hop and a whole lot more

A 2-time winner of the Best Major Festival award, Serbia's Exit has become renowned as one of the finest European festivals since its foundation all the way back in 2000. The big names for 2022's edition are Calvin Harris, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Iggy Azalea. However, we also see James Arthur, The Undertones and Napalm Death on the line-up - in short, it's eclectic, so we're pretty sure you'll find something you like…

Location: Petrovaradin Fortress (it looks fantastic) in Novi Sad, Serbia. Take note - the location is approximately an hour away from Belgrave airport, so you'll need to plan your route ahead of time.

When: 14 - 17 July

For fans of: Dance, indie, hip hop, pop

The biggest music festival in France. Need we say more?

…OK - we'll say more. Located in the beautiful western part of Brittany, Vieilles Charrues Festival is now in its 30th year, and its popularity shows no sign of waning. More than 250,000 people typically visit over the course of the weekend, but the festival's commitments to sustainability and solidarity give it an all-round awesome and friendly vibe. This one is an absolute must for festival purists.

Location: Carhaix, located in western Brittany. The nearest major airport is Nantes, and then it's a train. Or, you could always hit the Eurotunnel and drive from the UK…
