A traditional and historical hotel with a perfect location in York. The room is nice and the bed is comfortable. Though it is an old hotel, it is not outdated at all and makes you feel good. The location is prime and there are lots of restaurants nearby and it only take a few minutes to walk to different attractions in York. The only downside is that there is a staircase in front and it will take you some energy if you bring along a large luggage.

The hotel is right in front of the cathedral, the location is very central, and Diagon Alley is also within walking distance, which is not convenient for parking. 7.8 minutes after walking the street one night behind the parking lot is okay, parking during the day is very expensive. Welcome to us is a very old-fashioned British gentleman, introduced the room for 10 minutes, and encountered the butler-style service for the first time.

The Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station. Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor. Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out. Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though. I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.

Awards to date:1. 5 star gold award by Visit England.2. Nothing less than 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor.3. Selected by Sawday's as a 'Special Place'.It is suitable for families and mixed groups of friends. Kindly be aware that Precentor's Court is in a sacred and quiet part of the city, and out of respect for the Church and our neighbours, we do not accept bookings from single sex parties. Thank you.The property is a 4 bedroom townhouse, with a courtyard garden; it can accommodate up to 6 guests. The rental comprises of the entire house, thereby offering privacy and space, and is arguably the best located holiday property in York. A comprehensive refurbishment of the entire house has just been completed, and care was taken to retain the original features, many of which date back nearly 300 years. This sympathetic restoration, when coupled with an eclectic mix of high quality antique and contemporary furnishings, has resulted in an elegant yet relaxed and comfortable residence, featured (July 2014) in '25 Beautiful Homes' magazine.Location, location, location: Placed at the entrance to Precentor's Court, this hidden gem occupies a unique and enviable position in the heart of York, just yards from the 800 year old Gothic cathedral that is York Minster. Not only is the property ideally placed for exploring and enjoying the wonderful city of York, together with the beautiful county of Yorkshire*, but it is also a superb base for exploring the rest of Britain. York’s famously curved Victorian railway station is just a few minutes walk away with connections all over the country including London and Edinburgh in just under two hours.Accommodation: Living accommodation is arranged over 3 floors. The house is centrally heated with fully adjustable cast iron column radiators in every room. At the back is a courtyard garden offering private outdoor space in the heart of the city, whilst to the front it is just a few steps to the Dean's garden - a great place for a picnic. WiFi broadband is available throughout the house.Ground Floor: Lounge - plenty of comfortable seating and a high definition TV with Netflix. Kitchen / Pantry / Diner - modern kitchen meets vintage dining area.Tiled Hallway - a tiled hallway with an array of coat hooks and a tourist information cupboard. The Knowledge: On a lectern in the dining area is a large red book entitled 'The Knowledge'. Compiled by the owners, to ensure that their guests have the best experience, it is a constantly updated distillation of the best in and around York - including restaurants, pubs, shopping, sights, entertainment and excursions. Invaluable! The Bedrooms: All bedrooms have wonderful views of the Minster and adjacent Dean's garden. All are equipped with - hairdryers, towels, mirrors, luggage racks, and bed-side tables and lights. All bedding and linen is high quality cotton.Middle floor: Bedroom (1) - original fireplace, large king-sized double bed and walk-in wardrobe, furnishings include antique secretaire, antique George III chairs , gilded trumpet candelabra.House Bathroom - bath, shower, hand-basin, toilet, and heated towel rail.Bedroom (2) - very similar to bedroom 1. but with a free-standing wardrobe and dresser. Top Floor: Bedroom (3) - in the eaves of the house, original fireplace, a double bed, rare walnut knee-hole dresser with shield mirror.Second Bathroom - small but perfectly formed wet-room with an electric shower, toilet and hand-basin.Bedroom (4) - single wooden sleigh bed, folding single bed (will be made up on those occasions when there is a full compliment of 8 guests), walk in wardrobe with cupboard to stow luggage. Cellar: Laundry facility - washer, dryer, ironing.Boring but important. Safety: The safety of all our guests is of paramount importance to us and whilst we ensure that the house is a safe as is reasonably possible, it is not 'toddler-proof', and we caution parents against bringing very young children (below the age of 4) who would need constant supervision on the stairs and in the kitchen. The Elderly: There are 2 sets of winding wooden stairs to reach the upper floors which might prove difficult for the elderly and infirm (and hazardous for the very young).Parking: For those guests arriving by car there is a free car-parking space for one vehicle, 5 minutes walk from the house. Additional spaces are available in the York City Council car parks which are also close by. Further information on parking and directions will be given in our 'Welcome Package'. It is possible to load and unload directly outside the house before parking up.Single sex stag/hen parties: Standing in the precincts of York Minster, Precentor's Court is in a quiet and residential part of the city. Out of respect to both the Church, and our other neighbours (many of whom have young children), we will not accept bookings from stag/hen parties. Simply put, it really exceeded expectations. Because I thought it was a fast hotel, but overall the service was good and the family room facilities were relatively complete. From the train station, I walked around half a city. When I left the station, I turned left and passed the cathedral, and then turned right to the meat shop street. The hotel was opposite the city wall. The overall experience is good.

Cost-effective, convenient, private, convenient parking, few hotel staff, just one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It is best to arrive at the hotel before 7 pm, otherwise the door will be closed. Find the staff in charge of breakfast, you can have laundry service, 5 pounds. The nearby supermarket is very convenient and the room is spacious. The light is very good and I saw the fire cloud. The shower room is very narrow, and it is estimated that it is very inconvenient for the big man to use. Hand sanitizer hand soap and body soap are provided.

Online check in wasn't working new system issues but that was ok. Very friendly staff. 24hr reception, menu etc. breakfast prices need updating as they are £8 not £6. Light help yourself breakfast pastries toast, cereal and coffee. Nice spacious dining hall. Plenty of communal areas to sit and relax and the bar is a great place to meet and chat to people. The stairs were a challenge after a long day for me but rooms comfy. Curtains around beds give you good privacy. Trinity church over the road has lots of history and worth a visit. Regency Chinese is a great place to eat a short walk away. Close to the walls, station, city, bridges etc.. great for sight seeing. In a quiet part of the city. Loved my stay. Would stay here again. Great value.

Our family of four stayed here for two nights. The landlord's grandmother was in her 80s and still elegant and served everyone. We lived very comfortable and liked its decoration style too much! The breakfast is very rich, very delicious 😋 Some food buffets will come and order food. Convenient transportation, York is not big, it is close to the train station, close to various attractions, and can be reached on foot. Very recommended stay!

It's really great! I knew before booking that the hotel was run by a Chinese owner, but after arriving, I was able to communicate with my mother tongue about the journey. This feeling is really wonderful. The owner is still an alumnus! We arrived earlier than the check-in time and wanted to put down our luggage first, but the room was already cleaned, so we were arranged to check in early! Then the owner was very patient to draw a map and recommend tourist spots and restaurants. After checking in, I found that although this hotel is not a traditional luxury hotel, I can feel the intention of the operator. For example, the noise reduction and sound insulation of the entire hotel are very good, just like the iron frame stairs at the back door, which is very considerately covered with plastic mats to greatly reduce the noise of the iron stairs. There is basically no creaking sound of the traditional British house floor when walking in the room, so there is no need to worry about affecting the guests downstairs. I especially recommend everyone to book breakfast! See the photos for details! It's really very rich! In addition, it is also very convenient to travel! There is a small path from the train station parking lot that can pass through the hotel. It takes 5-6 minutes to walk quickly without luggage. It takes about 8-10 minutes to drag large luggage. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel that takes you directly to the cathedral. I hope I can return to York and stay here again if I have the chance.

The location is good and a walking distance to key places of interest. The room were clean and services were good. However, there is need to improve where dinner is served as it is just like in the reception area with chairs and tables not meant for dinner. The first day looked like there was less preparation for guests as other guests together with us were frustrated after making orders only to wait too long to be told that the choice was not available. Otherwise the staff are sociable and ready to help and serve.

Check in after 3 pm, the front desk did not even have a personal shadow, to call the landlord, and later other guests who lived in it opened the door for us. The bathroom bathing table is not a mixing valve, the hot and cold faucet is separated, the distance is far, the water in winter, while cold, while burning, heating is supplied in time, not all day. Breakfast is hard to say, I want to change the bacon (salty and dry, unpalatable to death) to a sausage, the answer is NO, every table seems to be in the mood to order, there is no toast on the menu, the table next door, our table is not on, I asked the next table is ordered separately, they said no, anyway, it is on. The deposit in the room was deducted directly without telling it. I thought the card was stolen and the credit card was frozen urgently. In short, it was a very bad experience. Not easy to bad reviews, but the experience is really bad.

Convenient location. Because I was staying alone, I was given room 10, which was relatively small. The window was the outdoor seating of the restaurant, so I couldn't open the curtains. There seemed to be an exhaust device outside the window, so there would be some constant noise before 10 pm. The supplies are complete and you can also iron your clothes. Because it is an old building, there is no elevator, so you need to be careful if you have heavy luggage.
