A traditional and historical hotel with a perfect location in York. The room is nice and the bed is comfortable. Though it is an old hotel, it is not outdated at all and makes you feel good. The location is prime and there are lots of restaurants nearby and it only take a few minutes to walk to different attractions in York. The only downside is that there is a staircase in front and it will take you some energy if you bring along a large luggage.

The hotel is right in front of the cathedral, the location is very central, and Diagon Alley is also within walking distance, which is not convenient for parking. 7.8 minutes after walking the street one night behind the parking lot is okay, parking during the day is very expensive. Welcome to us is a very old-fashioned British gentleman, introduced the room for 10 minutes, and encountered the butler-style service for the first time.

The Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station. Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor. Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out. Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though. I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.

Thank you.The property is a 4 bedroom townhouse, with a courtyard garden; it can accommodate up to 6 guests. The rental comprises of the entire house, thereby offering privacy and space, and is arguably the best located holiday property in York. A comprehensive refurbishment of the entire house has just been completed, and care was taken to retain the original features, many of which date back nearly 300 years. Safety: The safety of all our guests is of paramount importance to us and whilst we ensure that the house is a safe as is reasonably possible, it is not 'toddler-proof', and we caution parents against bringing very young children (below the age of 4) who would need constant supervision on the stairs and in the kitchen. The Elderly: There are 2 sets of winding wooden stairs to reach the upper floors which might prove difficult for the elderly and infirm (and hazardous for the very young).Parking: For those guests arriving by car there is a free car-parking space for one vehicle, 5 minutes walk from the house. Additional spaces are available in the York City Council car parks which are also close by. Further information on parking and directions will be given in our 'Welcome Package'. From the train station, I walked around half a city. When I left the station, I turned left and passed the cathedral, and then turned right to the meat shop street. The hotel was opposite the city wall. The overall experience is good.

Online check in wasn't working new system issues but that was ok. Very friendly staff. 24hr reception,menu etc. breakfast prices need updating as they are £8 not £6. Light help yourself breakfast pastries toast, cereal and coffee. Nice spacious dining hall. Plenty of communal areas to sit and relax and the bar is a great place to meet and chat to people. The stairs were a challenge after a long day for me but rooms comfy. Curtains around beds give you good privacy. Trinity church over the road has lots of history and worth a visit. Regency Chinese is a great place to eat a short walk away. Close to the walls,station,city,bridges etc.. great for sight seeing. In a quiet part of the city. Loved my stay. Would stay here again. Great value.

Our family of four stayed here for two nights. The landlord's grandmother was in her 80s and still elegant and served everyone. We lived very comfortable and liked its decoration style too much! The breakfast is very rich, very delicious 😋 Some food buffets will come and order food. Convenient transportation, York is not big, it is close to the train station, close to various attractions, and can be reached on foot. Very recommended stay!

It's really great! I knew before booking that the hotel was run by a Chinese owner, but after arriving, I was able to communicate with my mother tongue about the journey. This feeling is really wonderful. The owner is still an alumnus! We arrived earlier than the check-in time and wanted to put down our luggage first, but the room was already cleaned, so we were arranged to check in early! Then the owner was very patient to draw a map and recommend tourist spots and restaurants. After checking in, I found that although this hotel is not a traditional luxury hotel, I can feel the intention of the operator. For example, the noise reduction and sound insulation of the entire hotel are very good, just like the iron frame stairs at the back door, which is very considerately covered with plastic mats to greatly reduce the noise of the iron stairs. There is basically no creaking sound of the traditional British house floor when walking in the room, so there is no need to worry about affecting the guests downstairs. I especially recommend everyone to book breakfast! See the photos for details! It's really very rich! In addition, it is also very convenient to travel! There is a small path from the train station parking lot that can pass through the hotel. It takes 5-6 minutes to walk quickly without luggage. It takes about 8-10 minutes to drag large luggage. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel that takes you directly to the cathedral. I hope I can return to York and stay here again if I have the chance.

The location is good and a walking distance to key places of interest. The room were clean and services were good. However, there is need to improve where dinner is served as it is just like in the reception area with chairs and tables not meant for dinner. The first day looked like there was less preparation for guests as other guests together with us were frustrated after making orders only to wait too long to be told that the choice was not available. Otherwise the staff are sociable and ready to help and serve.

The family room is quite spacious for the four of us, clean and tidy. The location is excellent and close to the river. Friendly staff as well. Check in after 3 pm, the front desk did not even have a personal shadow, to call the landlord, and later other guests who lived in it opened the door for us. The bathroom bathing table is not a mixing valve, the hot and cold faucet is separated, the distance is far, the water in winter, while cold, while burning, heating is supplied in time, not all day. Breakfast is hard to say, I want to change the bacon (salty and dry, unpalatable to death) to a sausage, the answer is NO, every table seems to be in the mood to order, there is no toast on the menu, the table next door, our table is not on, I asked the next table is ordered separately, they said no, anyway, it is on. The deposit in the room was deducted directly without telling it. I thought the card was stolen and the credit card was frozen urgently. In short, it was a very bad experience. Not easy to bad reviews, but the experience is really bad.

Very lovely hotel. We love the building and the room and the outside view from our room. Love the coffee machine in our room. Everything feels luxurious. This is the only hotel that provides bedroom slippers throughout our UK trip. Room with big bathroom is nice. There is a famous restaurant inside the hotel. Lucky to get a table without reservations. Paid parking at the hotel is a bit steep. Other than that, all good.

Convenient location. Because I was staying alone, I was given room 10, which was relatively small. The window was the outdoor seating of the restaurant, so I couldn't open the curtains. There seemed to be an exhaust device outside the window, so there would be some constant noise before 10 pm. The supplies are complete and you can also iron your clothes. Because it is an old building, there is no elevator, so you need to be careful if you have heavy luggage.
