Hotels Near Praia dos Tres Irmaos in Alvor

The owners have spent money on the hotel to improve the look and appeal, although despite this there are several things that let it down. We booked a Superior sea-view room and on arrival (our room was not ready as we were early) we were informed that, our room would be on the second floor. We were then placed on the fourth floor and were assured that it was a Superior Sea-view room. The room was tastefully decorated, but a little tired with a partial sea-view - large tree obscuring the sea and with a small bathroom. First night; beds and pillows very uncomfortable, needless to say we didn’t have any good nights sleep for the week we were there (requested pillow exchanges which didn’t help). The room was very hot, twice we reported that the AC wasn’t cooling and asked for a fan which didn’t appear. Housekeeping didn’t refill the fridge with water, nor replenish teas/coffee’s. We asked several times for more water and wondered if they were chargeable? On checking with reception, we were assured they were complimentary - after this our fridge was restocked everyday. Bathroom exchange bidet and face clothes -took them away and didn’t leave replacements). With all our negatives, the location was perfect and staff where friendly.

We stayed in the Alvor Atlantico Hotel for nearly three weeks and would recommend. We had a Studio Superior, with a Sea View. We were on the 7th floor and the view was absolutely beautiful, we could see all of the beach from the beach at the Atlantida Restaurant to the very end. It was lovely to wake up to. The hotel itself was very quiet, there's no bar, there is an indoor pool, which we didn't use and it was also very clean. The Studio was well equipped with a 2 ring cooker, fridge and plates and cutlery, we had a problem with the cooker and the kettle which was sorted out for us, no problem. We had one rainy day when we didn't fancy going into Alvor, you can book dinner (or breakfast) in the Dom Joao Hotel, which we did for the one night, it was only a 5 minute walk away. It was buffet style but was very good. It's a 20 minute walk into the harbour or centre of Alvor on the boardwalk which was a nice way to start the evening. We will definitely stay here again. The beds were comfortable, a bit hard for my personal liking, the shower was good with plenty of pressure, so all in all would recommend.

The Dom Jaoa II. The first hotel we stayed in way back in 2006, which led to us purchasing time share with Pestana at the Alvor Park & Carlton in Madeira. We just fancied an impromptu last minute break this time, before the Winter Madness in the UK, to catch up with Friends we’ve on made over the years in Alvor, and as our time at The Park had finished we thought a trip down memory lane would be nice. That’s exactly what we got as the rooms have just been patched up badly, the pillows are definitely the same ones as we had 18 years ago, as the foam filling was that tired they felt like a collapsed lung, the mattress’s also appear to be old friends too, hidden under cheap mattress toppers, if you like sciatica, then you’ll love the beds, the air conditioning was also turned off due to the time of year and it’s aged clients ‘feel the cold’, bless ‘em, even though the Daytime temperatures left the rooms so stuffy at night, the only way to cool the rooms down is to open the balcony door, which under normal circumstances is absolutely fine and the sound of the sea at night is gorgeous, however, be prepared to take every conceivable mosquito deterrent as those little suckers had an absolute field day this year as we witnessed on many other guests scratching and itching as they tucked into their morning pasteis de nata. Breakfast was also an interesting experience as between 8.30am and 10am it literally turns into a food fight, where sadly it seems some of the food is not rotated or handled correctly in my honest opinion, I hold a level 2 & 3 catering hygiene & safety certificate and some of what goes on was not ideal. If the sun is out and hot, or you have Skin Cancer, as I do and need a parasol to enjoy the outside, apparently they won’t make a special exception, as “Everyone Else might want one?”…..Oh ok I’ll sit in doors like a lepur then as I’d hate to put the pool staff to any trouble. The good bits. It’s in Alvor. Which of course is amazing. They vacuum it a lot and the cleaning staff do the very best they can to keep this old dinosaur clean. The Barman makes an absolutely banging Caipirinha. As Pestana Beach Club owners. Pestana, please come on, stop the cost cutting again and do right by your clients, because bad news travels fast.

I would love to give this place a poor review to put people off going so I could keep it for myself but that would be doing the staff a real disservice. I can't fault this place at all- the place was spotless inside and out and the rooms were well equipped with fridge ,safe and air conditioning and lovely hot showers. The breakfast had something for everyone and changed each day. The staff are the real star of the show though and nothing is too much trouble. We mentioned we were looking for worry beads and the next thing we knew one of the waitresses at breakfast went across the street and brought back a selection for us to choose from and purchase from the shop opposite. Special mention to Ioanna who was so friendly and up for a laugh she really made our holiday. Great Central location but quiet with a lovely small pool and pool area. Can't wait to come back!

Booked a package with Jet2. My first time on The Algarve. All staff were very friendly and helpful. I paid extra for a balcony room. It overlooked the road, but I didn't find traffic noise a problem. All room facilities worked perfectly and the room was spotlessly clean. I was surprised to see a UK style 3 pin socket. A free safe and kettle are provided, however tea bags and coffee were provided as a ”welcome” and not topped up. No milk was provided, but a supermarket is a short walk away. Breakfast has something for all tastes. TBH I can't really fault anything and plan to return next year. There are regular bus services to Portimao. No.13 & 14 costing €1.65. Thanks to the reception staff for answering all my questions about Alvor and for directions and advice.

This was our second stay at The Pelican. It has a lot going for it but a couple of minor issues. The location was great for us, a 15 minute walk to Alvor, under 10 minutes to the Pingo supermarket and 5 minutes from The Jolly (a pub we made our own and knew the owner from last year). The reception and bar staff in Pelican were excellent and very friendly. The food in the bar was good and reasonably priced. The room was the same as last year and an excellent size, a TV you can swivel round to watch in bed and an excellent little kitchen with everything we needed. Our issues were with the quality of the daily cleaning, it was poor. The floor wasn't mopped and our feet ended up filthy (which then gets transferred to the bed) or in my case had white socks that were black underneath. There was a general lack of care which was a real shame as the main areas of the hotel were constantly cleaned. Also our bin under the sink wasn't emptied at least 3 times and we took to leaving the rubbish bag out to ensure it was taken. This year there was entertainment from 5 until 7 one evening on the terrace, this was well received and maybe the management should do more of this in future. The hotel WiFi was patchy at best and our phones kept being disconnected. The pool area is pretty good but could do with a bit of TLC, too often we struggled to get a lounger while others were ”reserved” by people who never returned for 2 to 3 hours. A few more loungers wouldn't go amiss or a regular check to remove towels when the loungers aren't used for long periods. We will definitely return if the standard of cleaning improves as this is an excellent hotel with bags of potential and friendly staff.

Intended to be a happy return visit after some years turned into a hugely disappointing experience for myself and my wife. Hotel is certainly not 5 star compared to others in Portugal; - bedroom acceptable but bathroom needs work on water egress from under bath after showers - toilet tissue seems to be rationed. Breakfast hot buffet not very enticing but selection of fruit and cereals fine. Two restaurant options available for evening meals - bar food or one other depending on the day of the week! Bar food menu very limited and the main restaurant very overpriced. Food quality acceptable. In general and with a couple of exceptions, we found that staff were a tad rude/abrupt on occasions (reception, night bar floor staff and golf shop in particular). Golf: Having obviously suffered from a very hot summer the course was in appalling condition with fairways and rough indistinguishable on some holes. The greens were also in very poor condition. The bad state of the course was sad to see as previous experience was so positive. We did however play one other nearby course where the greens were magnificent and fairways passable so I don’t accept Penina claim that nothing could prevent the poor state of their course given the summer weather. BTW, weather was bad!
