Review for NYX Esperia Palace Athens – Luxurious Stay with a Few Caveats
We stayed at NYX Esperia Palace Athens for four full days – two couples, each in an Executive Suite with access to the business lounge.
The welcome was warm and efficient, and we received our rooms exactly at 3:00 PM, as per hotel policy. The suites were clean, stylish, and well-equipped with amenities such as disposable toothbrushes, shaving kits, loofahs, a hairdryer, and more. One of our suites, located on the 7th floor, even had a partial view of the Acropolis, which was a lovely bonus.
The room’s climate, lighting, and curtains were all operated through digital controls, designed to pamper guests — although, in practice, they were not very intuitive and required a bit of trial and error. For instance, turning off the bedside light required getting up and walking to a control panel.
The TV included Israeli channels (11, 12, and 13), which we appreciated. Breakfast on the 10th floor was excellent, offering a wide variety of high-quality options, and the waiter service was above average.
One of the highlights of our stay was the exceptional care provided by Ilia, the hotel's Public Relations Manager. She guided us almost from the moment we arrived until we left — recommending excellent tavernas, booking taxis, restaurants, and arranging a private guided tour. On our last day, we were also warmly greeted by Dionysia in the lounge — charming and attentive.
That said, there were some drawbacks:
Reception service was inconsistent – not all staff members were welcoming; some appeared cold or offered forced smiles.
The business lounge was disappointing – small, crowded, with modest food and drink offerings and uninspiring seating. It felt more like a repurposed room than a proper lounge.
The pools require advance reservation, with no room for spontaneity. Usage hours are segmented (e.g., 1–4 PM or 4–7 PM), and spots after 7 PM are very limited. The rooftop pool area is crowded, and the adjacent restaurant is also open to non-guests.
Rooftop restaurant experience: One evening we returned from a night out and hoped to enjoy a drink with a view. Although two front-row tables overlooking the Acropolis were available, we were initially told they were reserved. Minutes later, we were informed we could sit there for a €25 minimum spend per person. The sudden shift from ”reserved” to ”available for a price” was off-putting — especially as hotel guests staying in suites.
The guided tour recommended by the hotel involved nearly 4 hours of driving during a 5-hour trip, leaving us with very little time at each stop. We suggest skipping it.
Bottom line:
The hotel is modern, very clean, and the suites are luxurious. Service is mostly excellent, particularly thanks to Ilia and Dionysia. However, don't count on spontaneous access to the pool or rooftop restaurant — enjoying those requires planning ahead, much like booking a theater show. If you value well-designed suites and structured experiences, this hotel may be a great fit. If you’re looking for flexibility and full-day pampering from hotel facilities — you might find it a bit limiting.
The room is clean and well-equipped, a very good four-star hotel. It is a very cost-effective hotel in Athens. There are many small supermarkets and small restaurants in the surrounding area, which has a strong sense of life.
A new hotel and everything is new which is good. Very clean as well. The service is good - We left early to catch flight and the hotel prepared packed breakfast for us. Air con is strong good for summer.
The location is 5min walking from subway and need to walk pass some homeless people. There is police around the homeless people.
Very Good

Really perfect location, clean and comfortable rooms, staff speaks perfect English and very helpful, gives a lot of practical tips, would certainly be happy to go back again.
Feel not safe!! Once we arrived one girl got stolen and there was a claim there from her, we try refund and book another hotel but hotel refused and he said there is no one stolen!!!
Pros: well-maintained place, friendly staff, amazing breakfast, nice rooftop views.
Cons: unfortunately, enough that I wouldn’t stay here again.
- The neighborhood is not the safest area, especially at night.
- The hotel has no control over the cigarette smoking. Supposedly it is a non-smoking hotel, but I constantly had the smell of cigarettes coming into my room at all hours, even after mentioning it to the front desk. Friends in other parts of the hotel and on other floors experienced this too, and we were there a week.
- The amenities are closed in the off season, and this was not disclosed at booking. (Pool, jacuzzi, rooftop bar, etc.)
- Unless you book a deluxe room with a view, you will be in a black box with no natural light, facing a building with broken windows.
- The light design of the rooms is impractical, especially the swinging neon light in the bathroom, which blinds you and makes it impossible to look in the mirror for more than a few moments at a time. There are a million switches to turn things on and spotlight overheads that don’t provide enough light.
The hotel is close to metro stations and very close to the O51 bus route. It is in an area of Athens with its problems but that is no fault of the hotel. It is within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants. The room was clean and tidy. The staff were pleasant and efficient. Check-In took less than one minute and check-out took seconds. Because it is only a three star hotel, the tourist tax is only three euros. The breakfast was buffet style and there was plenty of everything. There was a very wide selection of food.
Absolutely brilliant hotel. Our second stay here, we will always book this hotel whenever we visit Athens. It has everything we need and is in a brilliant location. Just a short walk to everything. The staff are super-friendly and the breakfast is simple but delicious. We really couldn't ask for anything more, especially at such a great price.
I have spent 3 nights there, as a solo traveller to see the surroundings of Athens, which was a good and quality time for me. Also the services of the hotel were impeccable and very nice people! Thanks for everything and God bless you xx

Great
Tttb deI had a fantastic stay at the Grecotel Hotel in Athens, Greece. The spacious room was a welcome retreat, providing ample comfort during my visit. The staff's exceptional helpfulness left a lasting impression, as they went above and beyond to ensure my stay was enjoyable. The hotel's cleanliness was impeccable, which added to my peace of mind. One of the highlights was the great breakfast they offered; a delicious and diverse spread that set the perfect tone for the day. Overall, my experience at the Grecotel Hotel was excellent, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Athens.
刘刘Nice hotel, newly opened, had dinner at the hotel, very delicious, the restaurant manager may feel that it is strange to eat only the main course, also sent a little appetizer, and gave the child a macaron
GGuest User3 adults soent 2 nights at Arcade Hotel in the terrace suite which was really spacious. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was very good with food being replenished all the time.
All Reception staff were friendly and helpful. As we left early for the airport we were made breakfast to take with us which consisted of plenty of food including some gluten free bread for me as a coeliac.
GGuest UserLocation is at Omonia Square, people wrote so many things about how sketchy the place is. Actually, its not that much of a big deal seeing a homeless or drunk people in the streets and somehow I did not see any. Overall very p/p hotel. Breakfast was good enough too.
KK_tabiThe location was good as it was close to the Parthenon and within walking distance to the nearest station, but the view from the room was so close to the building next door that I couldn't see the night view. That was the only disappointing part. It was great to be able to see the Parthenon and the night view from the rooftop.
The room was clean and I stayed there for two days, and I was happy that they cleaned the room between days.
He also spoke English, so he was kind enough to call me a taxi.
GGuest UserStaff was very attentive and responded in a very professional and efficient manner. They resolved all problems and were very gracious. Beautiful roof top restaurant with a wonderful pool.
The only issue we had was that the shower head in our bathroom was in the middle of the shower therefore sprinkling water against the curtain and leaking into the bathroom….a simple fix.
IItsmoeedThe start is exceptionally helpful and kind. The rooms and the hotel itself is amazing. It’s just the location of the hotel that’s a bit off and away from the attractions and markets.
GGuest UserLittle bit out of the way and some of the streets around it aren’t good. Once past those to Omonia Square you are fine. Room spacious and clean. No complaints with it. Happy I stayed there given the price. I was solo male traveller
