The Chermside Apartments ★★★★
"First time I've stayed here. I was aware of the mixed reviews & I've stayed at other hotels in Chermie but they were booked out on this occasion. It was raining heavily when I arrived so appreciated the undercover parking spaces immediately outside the reception. Check-in was seamless (thx Trip.com) & they didn't require a security deposit or CC scan so my customer trust box was ticked :-) The car park is secure & at ground level but spaces are limited; I was able to find a spot though at 4pm. There is public parking out on the street without restriction after 5pm. I had a Hotel Queen Room on the 2nd floor. Easy access via lift and the common areas were clean & well lit. The room and bathroom were clean with a pleasant aroma & no smell of mould (reported by others), air-con was on. I had a choice of two sliding doors to access the balcony so good for fresh air (but no insect screen). Overall, the room was comfortable whilst showing some signs of wear & tear. The shower had a choice of either hand-held or fixed head (rainforest type) & had plenty of pressure - great. I would recommend bringing your own toiletries, unless you're happy with generic multi-function liquid soap! The fridge was empty except for a small uht milk with no complimentary springwater or mini-bar that you might find in other hotels. There was TV, tea/coffee making supplies and a small microwave. If you like to sleep in complete darkness (like me), bring an eye-mask as the hallway lighting outside the room is bright & on all night, creating an aura around the front door that is hard not to notice. The area was relatively quiet with the hotel located on a side street. It's an easy & short walk to a major shopping centre and the bus station if you need to head into Briz City, which is a 20-30min ride away & only $0.50 fare - awesome. Breakfast (from 7am) was also included but I had to head-off early so wasn't able to grab a bite this time. In summary, I felt that the room rate was appropriate and score my overall experience as good."

"The location is superb. It located right at the CBD. Very easy to get around. The service was fast especially the check in process. We arrived early and got check in very fast. We complain about the cleanliness and staff was attentive upon the request we made. The staff were very nice.We got a free upgrade from 13th floor to 21st floor. The downside is that the bedsheet and pillowcase change was very slow and we waited until 11 pm even though we made request before 4 pm. The free buffet is also very average."

"Facilities: Average Hygiene: As soon as the elevator reached that floor, there was a foul odor in the corridor, coming from the garbage room. The room was also extremely dirty. The toilet was not clean, and the bed sheets and quilt covers were also extremely dirty. The quilt cover was just two sheets wrapped together. You can stipulate that cleaning is not done every day, but before checking in, can you at least ensure that the room is clean and tidy, and that there is no foul odor on the floor? For specific hygiene, just look at the Google reviews."

"Stayed at the end of trip to the Sunshine Coast. The hotel is situated in a great area of Brisbane but overall service wasn’t the best. We ate the Greek restaurant first night but couldn’t hear each other at dinner due to the construction noise outside. Hotel staff didn’t seem to care about it. Working in the industry I know the hotel was informed of this activity. But guests were not informed. I complained but the mangager was too busy to see me at reception. If I had known about the construction I would have made the reservation. Pool was overcrowded every day. Acoustics between room and corridor and terrace very poor. When someone operates the blinds you can hear and when they are on the phone in the terrace you can hear the calls. If you use the glassware or cups. You have to call reception to have them replaced otherwise when the room is cleaned they just take them away. The location is good though with good choices for other F&B venues so you don’t have to eat at the hotel!"

"Enjoyed our stay in the 1 bedroom + 1 study unit. We are on level 29 and super happy with the view on top. Clean common area. The gym is a bit tiny and didn't take photos as there were people using it. This hotel is also home for some people, so there are parcels scattered in one side of the lobby. The receptionist is really friendly and helpful. Didn't know how the phone works to call the concierge. We just went there to exchange used towels for new ones. The dryer is not working as it should be. The timer seems off. Overall, the unit is well looked after."

It seems that because I paid a cash deposit, housekeeping didn't confirm the room inspection promptly. The front desk staff (a very enthusiastic tall gentleman in his 40s) had to go up to resolve it, which led to a slightly longer wait. Overall, it's a highly recommended hotel."

"Room was clean, fresh, and the location is great. One thing left a bitter taste though. I arrived in a business jacket and had a lovely chat with the receptionist at check in. Then she asked to verify my ID with a passport or driving licence. I said driving licence, and was told it had to be an Australian one, as they could not accept an international licence. This was clearly assumed based on my accent, even though I have lived in Australia for 26 years and been an Australian citizen for 20 of them. I would normally let this go. But it would have been better if the receptionist waited to see which licence I actually handed over, before jumping to conclusions based on how I sound. Aside from that, a genuinely lovely stay. Just a small moment that took the shine off an otherwise great experience."
