This visit to Marco Polo truly saddened me. If you read some of my past reviews of this hotel I noted it was my favorite place to stay anywhere in the world. This was my first post Covid visit and I was shocked and disappointed. - Basic maintenance has not been completed. For example, there is a glass elevator that goes to Blu their rooftop restaurant. This elevator was out of order and when I asked why I was told “Covid.” Covid travel restrictions were lifted a long time ago and that’s no excuse. In a second example, we returned to our room after a long night and the key did not work. It turned out the battery in the electronic device on the door needed to be replaced and the front desk understand the issue immediately, so this must happen often. Good hotels replace these batteries on a schedule so the guests never suffer from dead batteries. - Service, which used to be outstanding?@, is now unacceptable. First, the English language skills of most employees we encountered were sub par. Second, the person who checked me in was being trained, so the check in process was very slow. Third, service at the poolside bar during lunch was slow, the waitstaff inattentive and they failed to include my banana shake on the bill so as we are leaving the grab us and give us a second bill to pay. Fourth, service at breakfast was terrible. I had to ask for black tea three times before I got it, seeking some out 3 times as no one ever came to check on us. When we arrived around 9 AM there was no bacon (later replenished with bacon that looked so bad I did not even try it, fatty and not crisp), there was 1 banana, which was never replenished, there were no juice glasses (later replenished). The food quality was adequate but not nearly up to pre-Covid standards. Overall the service was lacking. - I was also disappointed that the lobby lounge, which used to have live music every night now has piano music only and only 1 night per week I am told. - There was a cart of dirty linens in our hallway both days Some of these things are not expensive or hard to fix. It doesn’t cost a lot to have live music in the lounge nightly as there are lots of singers groups looking for opportunities. It doesn’t cost a lot to make sure you change door card batteries regularly Others are basic requirements if doing business. For example you don’t leave a glass elevator to one of the most expensive restaurants in Cebu out of order for month/years. I am purchasing a condo unit in Marco Polo residences and expected to regularly visit the hotel for meals/drinks, but if this is the quality and service we can expect, then I will not be utilizing their services.

We went to Cebu for a few days and decided to stay here since the location is near almost everything that we need and the rate is cheaper compared to other hotels nearby. Here are my thoughts: 1. Originally, we booked a Deluxe Room (one queen bed and one single bed) via phone a week prior our arrival. The Receptionist told us that the room can hold three guests since they don't have a room with three beds. 2. When we arrived, I was surprised to see how small the room was. The beds can definitely fit three adults / persons but the room itself is quite cramped for three people with luggages. You can't even walk around the room without bumping to each other or bumping to the furniture. 3. I went to the Reception Area and requested if we can have three single beds instead. In my head, I imagined that with three single beds, we could have more space and navigate a little freely. 4. Arrived back the hotel around 8ish (after having dinner) and was disappointed that our room was not arranged how we requested several hours ago. 5. Went back to the Reception Area and explained what has transpired. It was a good thing that the staff there were polite that kept me from making a scene. 6. I explained (again) that the reason why we're requesting for three single beds because the size of the room doesn't suffice three adults. Receptionist apologized and ALSO agreed that the room was too tiny for us. I almost laughed because when we checked in, I explained to them that we were three guests. They even asked for a 500php fee for the additional person. Why didn't they tell us from the start that the room was not equipped to accommodate three guests? 7. I requested for a bigger room (Family Room) which only costs 100php more than our original room. Luckily, there was an available room the following day until we leave Cebu. 8. Family Room was definitely spacious. It has a one queen sized bed and a sofa bed. The room was adequately clean but there are some evidence of worn out furniture and old sheets (clean but minimal stains). Fortunately, the bathroom was clean and the towels were relatively new. 9. We requested to ”Make Up Room” the next day since will be out the whole day that time. When we got back, again, felt really frustrated because the room was still unkempt and the trash weren't taken out. Needed to call the Reception Area again. 10. They provide free WiFi but they will just give you a piece of paper with the code. And the code is only good for one gadget for two days. If you have like five gadets, you need to ask five vouchers. Since we were at the 4th floor, for some reason, the internet gets disconnected from time to time. 11. They don't offer free water daily. I suggest that you stock up your room with water. 12. Aircon is old. It can cool the room partially because it's just a window type zircon which I think is just less than 1 horsepower. It's manual. 13. No trash bin inside the room. You need to go to that bathro

The distance from the airport by car to the hotel is about 13km, and it is 15mins from South Bus Terminal. There is a supermarket and restaurants in 10mins. The hotel check in required a deposit of 1000piso, and the two hotels I changed afterwards did not require a deposit. The hotel arranges high floors as required but the sound insulation is not ideal. I can accept it because the window is facing the road. The basic facilities of the room are simple but very clean and the space is large enough, and the curved design of the windows is the first time I have seen them. Overall is satisfactory.

Spent my required quarantine here for international arrivals. They are one of the approved quarantine hotels. And when I was searching for quarantine hotel before departure, they were the most responsive and flexible as travel covid protocols constantly changed; made my reservation via email. I opted for the package that included meals and airport transportation. Everything worked seamlessly -- from airport pickup to checkout. Hotel personnel were helpful and accommodating with our special requests, room was basic but clean and everything were in working order, beds were comfortable, AC noise acceptable, clean bathroom with good water pressure and hot water, and really great wifi which was a life saver while on quarantine.

Seems to be a hotel under renovation. Our bathroom was half tiled. Toilet was the basin that does not have a tank and requires good water pressure; however water pressure was very low. Had to hold flush handle 3 or 4 minutes to get the feces to go down.Shower and toilet are located close together without curtain. Toilet is drenching wet after a shower. Elevator is the open window type, fun to ride. However; it only went on three floors. The Hotel has 4 floors with a basement for parking. Have to use steps to get to Garage or Fourth Floor where they have their large activity room. We were there for two days for a conference. The swimming pool looked nice but had a large sign that said, ”Closed for Bleaching” both days. Beds were comfortable and rooms were quiet at night. Cleaning is badly needed everywhere. Only one unused electrical outlet in room. None in bathroom.

The Hotel smells, looks and feels clean. From the lobby all the way up to your room. They are also conscious with health protocols and provides mask and alcohol for all guests! Plus they have a UV robot whom they call Crystal (but I secretly call Gizmo) that cleans the room . I personally saw their UV robot so I can vouch for Crystal (Gizmo's) existence.

OYO 18 Suites, a great new hotel close to JY Square in Cebu City, offers super clean and spacious accommodation at very reasonable rates. Staff are always friendly and helpful and management strives to keep their guests satisfied as we found out when a couple of issues arose on our last stay there. Both issues were resolved promptly and to our satisfaction (Thanks to Ms.Emily!). Rooms are indeed basic, but very comfortable and good-sized by any hotel standard; so too are the bathrooms which feature hot and cold water showers only. Each room comes with a good-sized window and blind to keep out the strong afternoon sun. We prefer rooms on the JY Square side as the sun is not so strong. Each room has an excellent A/C unit and a small table with two chairs which are adequate to sit and eat at. None of the rooms have balcony access. No pool or gym facilities are available, but recently a restaurant has opened up on the ground floor and operates separately to the hotel. We have not tried the restaurant as yet, but it does offer a plated breakfast apparently. There are many places (fast food outlets, canderias and restos) to eat in and around JY Square at the end of Sanson Road, about 5 minutes walk away. Banks, money changers and jeepneys are also available in the same stretch of main road. JYSquare also offers a medium-sized supermarket. Mango and Fuentes Osmena Circle are 15-20 minutes by taxi/Grab. All in all, a good-value-for-money hotel outside of central Cebu City and highly recommended for short stays. We keep coming back every time we visit Cebu.
