Changsha Xiangjiang Hotel 1968

This hotel is an absolute gem in Changsha! The beautiful retro deco-design creates a charming and nostalgic atmosphere, and the two adorable parrots at the entrance add a delightful touch. The staff is incredibly kind and always available, making communication seamless by adding guests to a WeChat group for instant assistance. The amenities are outstanding: breakfast (with Western or Chinese options) and afternoon tea are delivered to your room, plus a free laundry service (wash and dry). The spacious room has an ultra-comfy bed, and the hotel goes above and beyond with thoughtful freebies: mouthwash, dental floss, a stocked minibar (drinks and chips!), and a kettle with coffee and tea included. The Wi-Fi is fast and reliable and covers the entire hotel. A unique highlight? The traditional photoshoot (with qipao and other vintage outfits) is a fun perk! I’d definitely choose it again for its comfort, service, and charm! 🌟

I genuinely wanted to enjoy my stay here, but unfortunately, the experience fell short in several important areas. From the moment we arrived, the service felt distant and unwelcoming. We were given tea and then simply directed to our room, with no warmth to make us feel comfortable after our travels. There is an overall lack of energy and hospitality was disappointing. Security was also a major concern. The front door is always left open, meaning anyone can walk straight into the building. It’s unsettling to know that people can freely access the hallways, especially on the ground floor where the rooms are located. The amenities were another disappointment. The air conditioning and heater are confusing and difficult to operate, with no clear indicators on how to adjust anything. It took unnecessary effort just to get the temperature right. The location, unfortunately, also added stress to our stay. The hotel is in an older neighbourhood that’s difficult to navigate, and even taxi drivers struggled to find a correct drop-off point. At night, the surrounding alleys feel uncomfortable and potentially unsafe, especially for women walking back to the hotel. While the interior design shows that care was put into the aesthetic, I genuinely hope the hotel builds on that foundation by improving its service, safety, and overall experience. There’s real potential here, and with some thoughtful changes, future guests could have a much more positive stay.

What an experience! Amazing hotel with great history in convenient and quiet location. The room was incredibly spacious and beautifully decorated. Super comfortable bed and very helpful staff. Would definitely stay again!

Excellent and attentive service. Room and bathroom are very big and well stocked with amenities. Breakfast was good choice with different set menu to choose from. Location is not so convenient but accessible via Didi
