The Hidden House(Chengdu Taikoo Li & Hejiangting))

Next to the really good location and clean room with all kinds of commodities what really stood out was the service. The staff all helped with different kinds of tasks, waimai and cancel a wrong order, buy Panda Center Tickets and otherwise helpful advice. We were surprised how good their english is. As a small cute gimmig you can buy a postcard and they will sent it got you. Thank you again, for alle your help. 很抱歉麻烦你了

I love this hotel! Perfect location, amazing views and friendly staff. I recommend it if you ever visit Chengdu.

When we checked in, there were a few dead flies on one of the beds and the room was filled with a heavy cigarette smoke smell. The front desk was quick to help when we asked for some air freshener and a new duvet cover. Unfortunately, the only duvet cover available was one size too big. They still changed it for us, but said that they would continue to look for a cover in the right size. At this point, we were honestly thankful and it didn’t really matter to us if they changed the cover again, because it was already clean. Here is where it went downhill… Later that night, we received a message that they found a cover in the right size and were coming to our room to change it. A man knocked on our door and held up some sheets, expecting us to take it and change it ourselves. We asked him to help us with it, to which he gave us a glare and walked into the room. We noticed that he was wearing his shoes into the sleeping area, so we quickly asked him to remove his shoes. He then asked us “then do you expect me to change the sheets with just socks on?”. We told him he could use the in room slippers provided (they are good quality reusable rubber type like crocs), and he stared at us speechlessly. I then told him it’s okay and that he could leave because we didn’t need this. Why would you provide slippers to guests and be offended when you’re asked to wear it? Also is it so hard to respect the guests wishes? This also isn’t a request we made but something the hotel offered to do. More reasons this hotel isn’t great? The toilet permanently smells like pee, like a public toilet. Additionally, you cannot flush toilet paper so you have to throw it in the bin next to the toilet, making it smell worse. It’s not soundproof at all. We found out at night as you could hear the neighbours yapping away loudly till 2am. Secondly, early in the morning at 8am, there was a loud vibrating sound which kept buzzing for a full hour. At first, we thought it was one of our phones but we all checked and it was not. Turns out it was coming from outside the room, even though the vibrations were as strong as a phone on a bedside table next to you. We suspect it is the next door neighbours phone. On top of that, if you open the room door for 3-4sec, a sounding alarm starts to ring constantly and we can hear all our neighbour doors ringing at 9am. No wonder they provided earplugs… The water heater in the shower is not consistent. It fluctuates from cold to burning hot within 1-2secs, without us adjusting its temperature. It ended up burning us. My other friends complained the water pressure was weak, I thought it was still acceptable, so we guess it’s subjective and not the main dealbreaker. The hairdryer was absolutely disgusting. It is a fake Dyson, and I have a real one so I know how to check the filter and if it’s been cleaned. You can see in the photo the amount of dust in the filter. Clearly has not been cleaned for months. This is probably one of the worst 4 star hotels I’ve been to. Other than the cute decor, it’s only saving grace is its location. However, you can get better hotels for similar prices in the same area. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but for the second night we immediately booked a nearby hotel (50m away) for the same price and it was much better in terms of facilities. In fact we were so surprised because the new hotel felt like a 5 star hotel. It was 1.5x bigger, cleaner, had an automatic high end bidet and a bathtub. To be fair, the front desk of this hotel was very apologetic, responsive and helpful the whole time. They even gave a partial refund on the night we stayed and full refund on the night we didn’t. BUT we also found out that the man which they sent to our room with the sheets was a security guard. Why would they do that? No idea. At the end of the day, a hotel with good front desk service but bad cleaning service and low quality room doesn’t seem worth it to us.

The Hidden House was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our 3-week journey through China – truly the cherry on top of our trip! 🍒✨ Everything was flawless: the room was spacious, beautifully designed, and offered an amazing view. We were warmly welcomed with tea and drinks waiting in the room, which immediately set the tone. The staff were outstanding – not only did they speak excellent English, but they were incredibly thoughtful. Since our trip was for my husband’s birthday, they surprised us with the sweetest gesture: a panda cake! 🐼🎂 Absolutely unforgettable. Breakfast was another highlight, with plenty of variety – from dumplings and noodles to pastries – all enjoyed with a beautiful view. We cannot recommend The Hidden House enough. Every detail was so well thought out, making it the most memorable stay of our entire trip. 💛
