Very pleasant one night stay. So much is considered for a guest's convenience that you feel cosseted from start to finish. The food is excellent and I especially loved the extremely generous full English. Next time I wouldn't bother though because the 'help your self' continental buffet was gorgeous. Huge selection of fruits, pastries and preserves etc. My only criticism, if it is one, is we were stuck up right at the top of the building and as I'm pretty dodgy on my legs these days I should have asked for a different room. Not their fault, mine alone. Overall thoroughly recommend.

The venue is beautiful & the grounds & planting stunning! I felt the prices for drinks & food was inflated, possibly as a result of the rewards The Red Duke is currently receiving, and didn't match the quality of menus on offer. Service is good, but again for the level of cost, this was not represented.

Sadly this is a honest review , I stayed at DRD the first weekend in July and till this date always our favourite place to stay and dine . Our room is where things started to go wrong room 18 avoid … almost zero natural light chipped flaking paint , buttons missing on the headboard , nails sticking out of bedroom furniture, chipped cups , blood on the duvet , no hot water and a fan that went off all night . We had looked forward to spending of anniversary here so much the room was a shock but the total lack of correspondence from management and owner to My concern have been the biggest shock . Our meal was good My husband ok ( big surprise as the foods usually A+ our pudding never arrived so 40 minutes later we asked where they were they were reordered and arrived quickly , the breakfast was a non starter no fruit left no natural yogurt we left and I had breakfast elsewhere . We spend £700 on the night between drink , massage, food and room to have a stay flanked with problems and ignored emails I can only assume this is the new standard on leaving there were two couples ahead of me complaining so I thought I’d contact via email another mistake on My part .

We booked to have Sunday Roast in the garden room for 2 people in June. Parking is a nightmare although we did manage to squeeze into the main car park situated next to the outside seating area, would recommend arriving 15 mins early to grab a space along the road beside the venue which looked packed! We arrived 10 mins early. On arrival we had to wait until a staff member came to the reception desk which isn't manned. Staff were polite and welcoming, Garden room was a really nice setting and we had lovely weather that day so the natural light just made the room feel nice. We ordered starters and mains which were delicious, we are glad we ordered a starter because the main was quite small but the beef was cooked to perfection. Gravy was very salty but we did have to ask for extra gravy or the roast would be dry without it ..as there was only a drizzle on our plates. Side dish of veg was nice, found the sugar snap peas a bit random for a roast. We ordered a pudding to share after our meal and they placed spoons on our table ready, we waited 25 minutes until we had to ask where our pudding was and I had asked for it to be taken off the bill as we will no longer have this as we had somewhere to be, we also asked for the bill at this point. 2 tables who have come after us were served pudding and one even paid their bill before we chased the pudding. Who we think is the manager came to the table gave no explanation on what had happened and just said 'sorry' and left pudding on our table, we quickly asked for the bill before he walked away. We waited 15 minutes just for the bill, we also asked for the service charge to be taken off. Overall, lovely meal and drinks but downsides to the day is parking, service and lack of communication. It was busy yes, but there were plenty of staff stood around chatting. Would return for a drink but not for a meal. Also the food we found was overpriced and venue overhyped for what it is. There are so many amazing restaurants/pubs in and around oxfordshire which serve delicious food and drinks for the fraction of the price and much bigger portions and better service.

This 16c building is quite amazing. Now an elegant hotel with lovely rooms. Food is presented to a high standard, plenty of choice and outdoor seating if required. Comfortable very well equipped rooms. Staff very attentive friendly and helpful, a very nice place to stay. Parking is available with car charging facilities. Would stay again without a doubt.

This place is simply exceptional. The food, service and decor are all top notch. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and will be back again. The Garden Room in particular is beautiful. It's like being transported back to the 1920s, superbly lit, decorated wth a sense of luxury and taste. The prices may be a little on the high side - but I did not mind this given how wonderful the experience was. I have already personally recommended this place to friends and family. We will undoubtedly be back.

Double Red Duke oozes English charm. Our room was very well appointed with king bed and a double shower. Even a towel warming rack. Fresh cookies in the room were a nice touch too. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the decor in the inn is warm and welcoming. Drinks and dinner were excellent, outside under red and white stiped umbrellas. A perfect stay in the Cotswolds!

We stayed here for our wedding night and cannot help but contrast the experience with the night I spent the day before at Mollie’s Motel which is not far away and for which I paid less than a quarter of the price of our Double Red Duke room (which was more than £400 for the night!) - NB I do not work for Mollie’s, I just don’t want other visitors to waste money when there is a better deal locally! First of all, for that price you would expect more than a cold continental breakfast (not even a warm boiled egg!). You would also expect at least 24 hour presence at the check in desk. We had to collect our key from behind the desk at midnight and find our own way to our room which wasn’t that easy to find. It doesn’t matter that the Double Red Duke frames itself as a country pub: for that price you should at least have a security presence or key code to get in. In contrast, Mollie’s has a lovely 24 hour bar and reception. The room was nice and spacious but there were no special touches which seemed especially tone deaf as we had told them it was our wedding night. We got a piece of paper saying congratulations but nothing more than that. Again, to contrast with Mollie’s where I received a bag of sweets and a cocktail of choice on the house! Other things in the room weren’t great or what I’d expect from accommodation in that price bracket- for example, if you forgot essentials such as a toothbrush there was a price list. You’d expect such things to be complimentary. There was also a map of the local area which would have been a nice touch if it didn’t include spelling mistakes such as the local town of Witney being spelt ‘Whitney’. A small detail but it demonstrated to us that the owners are out of touch with the local area. The staff in the morning were nice but it wasn’t enough to improve the situation. The decor is pretty and it may be ok to come here for dinner but we would certainly not recommend a stay here at the current pricing!
