On the plus side, this hotel is in a very central location. My room was very clean on arrival with good towels. My bed was comfortable. Kettle, mugs, tea and coffee. The receptionists were very pleasant. Now for the negatives: minimalist doesn't begin to describe it. Beds, a hanging rail, a desk, 2 chairs. That was it. Not even a glass in the bathroom for your toothbrush. The temperature control on the shower (which had an old fashioned curtain) was loose and moved by itself, so that the shower was either freezing cold or scorching hot. The room was cold, even with the small heater turned up to maximum. Only 30 minutes free WiFi in 24 hours!!? Seriously? Of course you can pay for more. What a cynical money-making scheme! I regularly travel all over Europe and even the most basic accommodation has free WiFi. What a joke. The TV was tiny. There's no restaurant or breakfast room (you can buy a basic packed breakfast at reception) but that wasn't really a problem as there are lots of eating options nearby. What really surprised me was that they only clean your room if you stay for 6 days or longer! There's no toilet brush either, so imagine that. Or perhaps not. You can request a "top up", which means they'll empty your bin and top up your tea and coffee and towels. I requested this, but all they did was empty my bin. There were spare towels, so that wasn't a problem, but I did need more tea. Edinburgh is a ridiculously expensive city for accommodation, and this Travelodge appeared at first glance to compare well pricewise, but seriously, it wasn't cheap and actually I didn't get much for what I paid. I felt ripped off. I wouldn't stay there again on principle , for the absence of cleaning/servicing and free WiFi alone. Extremely unimpressed.
