I booked this hotel three times between Ctrip and Qunar, because the price dropped the closer I got. The location of the hotel is indeed good, the room is large, the balcony has a good view, and it is very comfortable to use. Although the hotel is large, the elevator is very fast, and getting in and out is not as troublesome as some reviews said. The only inconvenience was that I checked out of the room that day, stored my luggage and went shopping. When I came back, I found that on the check-in floor on the second floor, all toilets required swiping a room card to enter, OMG. Later, I went to the change room where the third-floor swimming pool is located. There is no need to swipe the room card there.
It’s very close to Marugame Udon, a popular udon restaurant. The “Mai*” matcha ice cream next to it is also good. You can try the purple potato balls in Duke Lane. The local poke bowl is worth a try.

The location and staff were very good. There was one downside to staying here, we had a corner unit and by 4am we could hear absolutely everything going on outside, garbage and delivery trucks especially. They really need to upgrade their windows if anything. It felt like we were outdoors and we were on the 6th floor! When we complained which I’m sure everyone who has stayed in that corner unit has, they waived the hotel fee which wasn’t much but at least it was something. I’m sorry but that was a dealbreaker and would never stay there again. If you feel like waking up by 4am because of noise then by all means stay here.

Very central and staff are very accommodating, the only hassle was that I had to wait until 2.30pm after arriving at 5.50am and I was very tired after travelling from Australia. Check in time was 3pm so I do appreciate the half hour earlier check in, next time I will add an extra day. The staff were also very polite from the front desk to housekeeping, a very nice place to stay at Ohia Waikiki Beach indeed.

The hotel is a small but beautiful hotel. The rooms are not big and relatively new. The facilities are very convenient. Although it is small, it has all the essentials. The valet pick-up speed is faster than most Waikiki hotels because it is parked opposite. It is very easy to go downstairs to go shopping in the supermarket. It's convenient and not in a busy area, so the location is relatively quiet. The restaurants are pretty good, and several restaurants are very close to the sea.
Service is good. Room service response speed is good.
The only drawback is that there is no direct access to the beach. The swimming pool is relatively small and the distance between the lounge chairs is tight. It is very close to the restaurant. If there are people dining next to it, it will be cluttered.
The balconies in the rooms are relatively close together and the privacy is poor. You can see other people's balconies if you tilt your head slightly, but the sea view is pretty good.

I have an issue with this hotel. The power went out. I use a medical device to sleep and I told him I cannot stay in the room to sleep first of all. There’s no air conditioner in Hawaii is very hot number two. I sleep with the medical CPAP machine, so I cannot sleep without that machine. How do they expect me to stay in this room? I checked out of the hotel they told me they would give me a full refund and now they are going back on their word and not refunding my money this is ridiculous.

The hotel is in an excellent location. It is only a few minutes' walk to Central Avenue, where you can shop and eat. There is a beach behind the hotel. Although it is not the main beach of Waikiki, it is less crowded and has big waves, which is suitable for family outings. The hotel front desk service is good, and early check-in can be arranged. The relevant matters are informed in detail. The cleaning lady is very enthusiastic and helps to solve the room problem. The overall hygiene is OK. There is an ABC store downstairs where you can buy things. The monkey kitchen has enthusiastic service and moderate prices. There is a circle of seats along the beach with a good view. The hotel can store luggage for free, and there are many places to rest in the lobby, and the seats are also comfortable.
The hotel front desk can upgrade to a partial sea view room for about $24 a day. This room type comes with a small balcony. Sitting on the balcony in the evening to enjoy the sea view and watch the resident singers singing is very atmospheric; the hotel provides kettles, you need to go to the corridor to get water, which is quite self-service, and ice cubes are also provided; toothpaste, toothbrush, slippers, etc. are not provided proactively, you need to ask the front desk; the house was not cleaned proactively during the two-day stay, so call the front desk if you need it; the hotel has its own outdoor swimming pool, which is mainly played by children; the front desk will give beach towel cards, so you don’t need to bring your own towels when going to the beach or swimming; some rooms in the hotel seem to be under renovation, and the electric drill is very noisy in the morning. In short, the overall cost performance is good, the service is enthusiastic, and the corresponding hardware and software are in place.

You don't always have to stay in the most expensive luxury hotels! A bed and a toilet are enough 🚽. And since I'm an open book 📖 I also like rooms with several people. As I mentioned, I was a supervisor and we slept in a room with several people. It's a youth hostel ✋🏻

The hotel is located within Ala Moana district which is a 15 to 20 mins walk towards Waikiki Beach. Shopping wise it's very near to Ala Moana Mall which houses everything you can possibly want in a shopping mall. The staff are friendly and the service is great too. The hotel room deco is slightly dated but is still perfectly fine. Overall a great stay if you're looking for value for money and great stay in Honolulu.

Outstanding
NNoskovConsider it a happy little accident. I had missed my flight home because of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade and was stuck an extra day on Oahu. I looked to see what was the cheapest hotel room available and the Ka La’i popped up which surprised me.
Booked the room quick because the Honolulu Marathon was the following day and almost every hotel was sold out.
I got an ocean view suite with a King bed as my room and loved it. Bathroom was amazing, bed was super comfortable and overall the suite was spacious. Although it had a kitchen it didn’t have a dedicated dining table, even a small one. Only thing in the sitting area was a glass coffee table that was long enough for my needs of just a late night pizza dinner.
Staff was helpful and even as I was checking out, I casually asked if I could tour the Penthouse suite because I had always wanted to book it. The 2 front desk workers escorted me to the Penthouse and gave me a little tour. It was impressive.
Definitely would stay there again soon.
JJUANJapanese hotel, we arrived late and helped me upgrade to the suite. The house is large enough to cook. There is a swimming pool. At night the water is a bit cold. You can soak in the heated swimming pool. When booking, it is stated that there is no resort fee. Late in Hawaii is very cheap. After we check out, we can see that the price has risen to more than 1,000 a night.
JJordan NicholasOur recent stay at Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu was a blend of highs and lows, with its strengths balanced by a few notable drawbacks. Situated in a reasonably good location and boasting cleanliness throughout, the hotel offered convenience and comfort in many aspects with a great pool and bar area including a separate adults pool. However, certain factors detracted from the overall experience, leaving us with mixed feelings about our time there.
Let's start with the positives. The hotel's location, while not directly in the heart of the city hub, offered a decent compromise between convenience and tranquility. Close proximity to Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon provided easy access to beach activities and waterfront relaxation, adding a touch of serenity to our stay. Additionally, we found the hotel to be impeccably clean, with well-maintained facilities and a commi**ent to hygiene that was commendable.
Despite these strengths, there were some notable downsides to our experience. The most significant inconvenience was the walking distance to the main city hub, which required a 15-20 minute walk to reach popular attractions, dining establishments, and shopping venues. While not a dealbreaker, this added a layer of logistical planning to our daily activities and limited spontaneity.
Another issue that significantly impacted our stay was the persistent noise from the elevator. Unfortunately, our room was located close to the elevator, resulting in constant disturbances throughout the day and night. The loud mechanical noises disrupted our sleep and detracted from the overall ambiance of relaxation that we had hoped for.
In summary, Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu offered a mix of positives and negatives during our stay. While the hotel's cleanliness and proximity to Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon were definite highlights, the walking distance from the city hub, the disruptive elevator noise, and having to pay for hotel parking detracted from the overall experience.
VVincentWe had such a great time couple days the winds were high, but we didn’t let that spoil our vacation. The sun was out that’s the most important thing in the temperature was in the 70s and 80s and so perfect for people from Seattle Washington rainbows you know it’s a tropical area so the rainbows appear in the sky just so beautiful fireworks on Friday night was outstanding. Looks like all of Waikiki came to look And we stayed in the Tapa building and ocean view just outstanding. The restaurants to Bali was fabulous. The restaurants are on the street level was fantastic and we walked around the city and experience various type of cuisine. This is an outstanding vacation seven days and my wife and I are so glad that we have mobility and at our age so we could really enjoy the beach. Enjoy the catamaran enjoy just walking around the city shopping and so just outstanding. We look forward to another vacation like that.
GGOENSEOKBreakfast mainly consisted of bread and fruit, and there was nothing particularly impressive about the food. There were no inconveniences in terms of amenities as there were car rentals, activities, and a convenience store on the first floor, but the swimming pool on the second floor was too old to be usable. As for hotel service, there was a resident Korean staff member, so there were no difficulties with check-in, and everyone was friendly.
FFlo RetaReview and rating solely based on our one night stay. High on convenience because our flight arrived late so rental cars were closed. It’s a few minutes (about 5) from airport where we needed to get our car next day. At the outset of entering there’s taped off area in lobby like work being done and a bit pungent smell that gives you an off the bat impression. Friendly receptionist. Room was not very likable as sheets felt and smelled too starchy it was uncomfortable to sleep in. Beds (two twins) felt old and somewhat lumpy. Shuttle does run on the hour til 12:30am and we were lucky to catch the last one and to get back to airport next morning. In conclusion, it met our convenience needs but way overpriced for the subpar room accommodation (174$ total).
GGuest UserUhhhhh..... We stayed in this hotel because our flight got in late and we needed a place close to the airport to crash for one night. This hotel fits that purpose well. That said, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for any other situation other than the one I just described. They were pumping sewage right outside of our door the morning we woke up. Also, our room key didn't work the morning we were checking out. The only other positive of this hotel is that it is within walking distance of THE BEST little food place we came across on our whole trip: Joe's Grill Express. We cannot wait to come back so we can visit Joe's again.
GGuest UserFor someone wanting to experience Waikiki on a budget it’s a great price! Perfect location right across the street from the ocean and the beach! It’s only 2 min walk to the zoo and the Waikiki trolly bus stop is less then a block away and it’s only $5 a day to take. This hotel is perfect for convenience and location!! The bed isn’t the most comfortable and there are nicer and cleaner hotels but your going to pay a-lot more for that. This was perfect for a short few day trip I took! I’ll definitely book there again! Also their parking lot is not very big so if your getting a rental car I would call them first to confirm they have a spot available for your car to be parked if they do it’s only $30 a night which is also a great price! But that was sold out the whole time I was there. I didn’t need it because I didn’t have a rental car. But I could see that being an issue if you have a rental car.
GGuest UserThere is a main building and an annex, but the annex is really bad, and if you stay in the main building, the cost-effectiveness is really good! I stayed for 3 nights and stayed in the annex on the first day and was so depressed that I paid extra money to upgrade my room to the main building, and I was very satisfied! And it's very noisy because it's a downtown area, so take that into consideration! This is a picture of the bathroom when I stayed in the annex, but there was no ventilation and no lighting in the shower cubicle.. It was poor. Compare it with the pictures of the main building!
