Hotels Near Kaleidoscope in Kaw Township

We were so surprised! Very nice hotel, nicer than higher class brands we have stayed at lately! CLEAN, updated, good breakfast. CLOSE to Arena, convenience wins it out. Rooms were dark, bed not the most comfortable (but clean is what matters!), not much for seating. One desk chair, otherwise just the beds, small window but overall highly recommend! Staff very nice. I would recommend to the company, a luggage holder for the room. Yes there was a large closet, and a long counter/bench to set your luggage on, however there was nothing by the bathroom. We were traveling with our kids, so I had to keep my bag in the middle of the room, after getting out of the shower I had to walk into the room to get all my stuff. I thought if only I had something to put my luggage on right outside the bathroom. None of these ”complaints” would warrant losing a start though.

When driving in under the canopy all that was asked was valet or self-park. We were directed to park in the underground lot and received a parking stub. It would have been nice to have been told that we could unload our luggage before we parked. We went up to the lobby to just check in. The desk person seemed as if he was annoyed to check us in. The only info we got was how to get to our room. It was NOT IN THE MAIN BLDG! We took an elevator to the parking garage, up to the lobby, take another elevator to the 2nd floor, thru a walkway to another elevator up to the 11th floor to our room. The was room was ok. After the stay we drove out of the parking garage and paid the $24 charge by CC to get out of the garage. When I checked my CC sure enough there was a charge for another $24 parking from the hotel. It would have been nice if the desk person told us how to get thru the garage without using our CC. Poor service for what was supposed to be a ”splurge” stay after a 2-week vacation. We had better stays at hotels that charged half what this hotel does. Not impressed!

We stayed here on January 5. The property itself was very nice—large rooms, comfortable beds, good breakfast. Our problem was dog-related. We checked in around 8 p.m. and went to our room to be immediately met with the consistent barking of a large dog in the adjacent room. We immediately called the desk and asked for another room. They didn’t have any other king rooms so the lady at the desk said she would come down and take a look. My husband waited for a few minutes then went up to the lobby when he didn’t see her. There was a steady stream of people checking in and the desk attendant was completely alone. My husband talked to her briefly and she called the room where the dog was, but of course, no one answered. She tried to move us to a room with 2 queens, but said she couldn’t register us to a different room because we had booked the room through AAA and the system wouldn’t allow her to make us keys. Eventually, she was able to call someone who told her just to take us to a room and let us in. To make things worse, the lady at the desk had a disability and walked with a walker. We felt terrible that she had to walk us to our room. We couldn’t believe there wasn’t a manager or security person who could have helped out. At some point during the night, they figured out how to make us keys and put them under our door. While my husband was in the lobby, another man came to the desk and said he needed another room because there was dog poop on the floor of his room. We’re okay with people travelling with their dogs, but this hotel obviously had some issues.

This hotel is on the National Registrar of Historic Places and in a historic area of KC. This creates a nostalgic vibe. The hotel gym is adequate and lots of shops and restaurants are nearby within walking distance. Overall I had a great stay.

A more comfortable hotel in the area

room was gorgeous and hotel was near everything so booking and Uber for a drunken night around downtown KC was $10-$15 a ride. Front desk only had one person so that was not very efficient especially if that one person had to step away, you’d be standing at the check in for a while waiting, another downside was pool was rarely open. There wasn’t really any structured swim hours just an ‘out of service’ sign on the door every other hour.

Pros: New property, friendly staff, comfortable and quiet guest rooms, no problems to speak of. Cons: Immediate area doesn't have much to offer in the way of shopping and restaurants. In any year I spend upwards of 120 nights in hotels so for me to find one that doesn't stress me in any way is difficult. I am happy to say my stay at this new Holiday inn property didn't cause me any headaches or stress. It was easy and effortless from check-in to check-out. My room was spacious and included both a work desk and chair/table so I didn't have to watch TV while lying in bed in a weird position. The shower had decent water pressure, I didn't hear any guests in adjacent rooms, and I didn't have to hack the thermostat to get the room to a comfortably cool temperature. There was always parking available not too far from the door, every front desk employee was friendly, and the ice water in the lobby was always full- and welcome because of the warm weather. Although no fault of the hotel, the immediate area doesn't have much to offer aside from the Worlds of Fun theme park. There is a Wendy's, Burger King, Waffle House, Taco Bell, and QuikTrip convenience store/gas station, but nothing in the way of sit-down restaurants, grocery stores, and other kinds of retail. For that, a short drive is required in either direction. This is one of the rare hotels for which I would not hesitate returning to for another stay. There is definite value in stress-less experiences.
