Kiso County is famous for its lacquerware. The boutique resort "Kazato" opened in the village faces the Ontake volcano. It is a 400-year-old family business. The owner has 8 employees who perform multiple duties to run the farm and 20 guest rooms. You can take a walk along the forest trail behind the house to the horse farm, and ride along the main road. Along the way, there are wooden fences and tiled houses surrounded by green mountains, and the fragrance of soil, grass, and unknown flowers. You can breathe in the purest flavor of nature. The hotel meals are exquisite and delicious. The sushi for dinner is made in front of you, and the Japanese omelette for breakfast is also made in advance. The room with private bath is equipped with a full set of Pola skin care products. There is a self-service wine and dessert bar in the lobby, and even red wine is provided. You can also heat the annual ring cake by hand. One of the employees, a young man from *****, is enthusiastic, interesting and thoughtful, which added a lot of good memories to this stay.

It was a wonderful place to stay - breath-taking view of Mt Ontake, and very delicious kaiseki dinner and breakfast. We had tremendously enjoyed our 3 nights there. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were huge and had a warm feel to it. We enjoyed our onsen baths very much too. The surrounding area is vast, and provides a place for good morning or evening walks or cycle. There is a stable nearby where one can walk to as well. Whether sunset or sunrise, the place is beautiful.

What an amazing oasis of tranquility! Food was outstanding, have the Japanese breakfast and explore your taste buds. Had a vegetarian evening meal and it was probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had! Add in a wood fired sauna in the room and plunge pool, with access to an Onsen with 4 baths utterly beautiful. The view of a snow capped mountain at breakfast and snow on the ground was stunning. Great place for a break and also do hike on the Nakasendo Highway as well! Fantastic!

Great sleep and not a sound in room. The hot tubs are great after a long mountain climb on our tour. Food was a conveyor belt of delicious Japanese tasting plates. One tip with the type of pillows used in these inns is use the spare dunna from the cupboard as a pillow. There are horses to visit a few minutes walk away special breed.

I traveled to Tsutaya with my husband and teenager. It was truly one of the best parts of our two week-trip to Japan. The countryside there is so beautiful. Our room had a deck with a view of the mountains and fields of the Kaida Plateau and the main sitting room also has chairs outside where you can gaze at the landscape. There's plenty to do in and near the hotel: the onsen onsite is incredible, there's a Kiso horse preservation area nearby, and beautiful hiking trails. The hotel has bikes for people to use. We had a car and drove to Magome (about an hour) for the day. We also saw a toy museum and other onsens nearby that you could visit The food was bountiful, delicious, and beautifully prepared and presented. And the people couldn't have been more welcoming! I could easily spend a lot of time there!
