A most enjoyable dinner, the food was as ever excellent and the service was superb. Plumber Manor is a lovely country home hotel and never fails to live up to our very high expectations. Richard and Alison are the ultimate hosts. A somewhat unique gem

The room was comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious, the dinners were delightful and Richard and the team were absolutely charming. What a wonderful way to spend four days. It helped, of course, that the house itself is beautiful and an extremely comfortable place from which to welcome in Autumn.

Fabulous hotel, love the atmosphere, the building itself is amazing and the rooms are gorgeous too. Really friendly family vibes, staff are great and very helpful. Using 200 characters is not easy when you’re in a rush to review but I think it’s suffice to say that it’s worth a visit! The location is very pretty and rural. We managed to get a cab to and from the celebration we were attending. ……

Warm and personal welcome by owner and staff. What makes it so special is that Plumber Manor has been in the same family ownership for centuries. Real feeling of authenticity, nothing phoney or pretentious which is prevalent in so many hotels. The food was excellent and reasonably priced.

We have stayed many times at the Plumber Manor. The rooms are very generous in size, clean and well furnished. We took our Cocker Spaniel with us, who slept in a crate, there are lots of lovely walks closeby. The Restaurant is lovely, 3 courses for £55 and a full english breakfast. Food is excellent. Richard and Alison are wonderful hosts, we will be returning soon!

A warm welcome and a comfortable reception room for pre-dinner drinks. The dining room was warm and well furnished. Our Beef Wellington was exceptional. My pear tart was disappointingly stale and I was surprised that it was not deducted from our bill.

The hotel is in a most beautiful tranquil setting yet perfectly placed for visiting the area. Richard and his team are excellent hosts and the food is delicious! We both felt very well looked after and recommend the hotel - in fact we have been staying here for over twenty years.

We take a short break every September and look for a different quiet, country based hotel. Plumber Manor was our choice this year. Situated up some country lanes just outside Sturminster Newton, in North Dorset, it was in an ideal spot to explore the whole area. The outstanding feature of this hotel was unequivocally the staff, who were marvellous from start to finish. The courtyard rooms were spacious and only a short walk in the open from the main building. They were quiet and peaceful and equipped with convector heaters - as the summer was just failing and occasionally there was a chill in the air. The breakfast was excellent and the dinner was well presented, generous in size and varied from day to day. The wine list was extensive (as was the bar) and priced at a very reasonable level. I suppose a good mark for any hotel is if the local people frequent it. Plumber Manor was extremely busy in the evening catering for many local groups and parties. Driving to most of the areas highlights - Stonehenge. Poole, Lyme Regis etc took between 1 to 1.5 hours and trips to Shaftesbury, Yeovil etc were much shorter. I always try to find something negative about each place that we visit and I am struggling here. Perhaps at dinner - and the meals were excellent - there could have been a slightly more imaginative approach to the accompanying the vegetables served. (That is really nit picking though) Plumber Manor is a delightful place to stay and we highly recommend it.

We stayed here for 2nts over our wedding anniversary last month. A very nice room, with pleasant, friendly staff and excellent food. However, we had e-mailed the hotel (twice) to inform them that this was a special occasion, and received confirmation back from the actual owner that this had been "well noted." On arrival the reception lady mentioned they were aware of this, but that was it. No card in the room, no small tray of chocolates (not even the ones they serve with coffee at the end of dinner) No small arrangement of flowers - not even a spray from the garden. No small bottle of prosecco in the room, or even a complimentary glass of fizz at dinner. Nothing. Just really disappointing - especially as they were all aware of the occasion, and had confirmed so. We don't expect much, and fully appreciate this is a small, privately owned hotel, but surely they could have managed something? This is the sort of thing we remember.
