Clodagh Manor House by Seven Angels

📍 CLODAGH WESTERN Estate, Matale
★★★ 10 (9 reviews)

"Mr Kasun and the Manager Mr Wijitha have been very attentive, polite and caring staff at this villa. It is very secluded, but this is a big plus, because the nature around make you feel like in paradise. The entire premise is designed beautifully and the interior is outstanding classy. I recommend to get up with the sunset and enjoy the view and most importantly the sounds of the birds, monkeys and peacocks."

"One of the best places to stay around Matale. A place with good facilities and not far away from the town. The owner has modified an old Sri Lankan walawwa and made something unique out of it for an affordable price. The price is reasonable and you can book the whole property for your group."

Lavendish Wild Safari

Lavendish Wild Safari

📍 1 Ela, Hadungamuwa, Matale
★★★★ 8.3 (19 reviews)

"This is a late feedback as we stayed here about two weeks ago, on 12th December. We visited Lavendish Wild Safari – Wasgamuwa as a group of six people on a full board basis and booked two triple rooms. The rooms were perfect, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely view. The hotel has a large area and a very relaxing atmosphere. It is beautifully located facing a lake and surrounded by nature, giving very calm and peaceful vibes. The pool was very clean and well maintained. The food was amazing and delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly and always ready to help with a smile. The location is very close to Wasgamuwa National Park, and we also enjoyed the Wasgamuwa safari during our stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful stay surrounded by nature."

"This is the BEST one and only place in Riverston. It’s worth for the money we spent for this hotel. We stayed in 189 degree view room and from our bed we could see whole mountain range and it was wonderful experience. Staff service is excellent!! Front office staff was very helpful and Geeth was very helpful with our all the requests. Food is excellent and they provided food we liked to eat and kitchen staff was fantastic. Our most liked food was the spinach soup!! Wow it’s so tasty. We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Matale or Riverston. It’s a shame to miss this place."

"We stayed at Water Garden Sigiriya for our honeymoon forr3 nights and had an absolutely incredible time. The highlight was definitely our room; having a direct view of Sigiriya Rock made our stay feel extra special and romantic. A few standouts: 1. Service: The staff are incredibly friendly, but a special thank you goes to our butler, Udara. He was exceptional and made sure every detail of our stay was perfect. 2. Quality: The food was delicious at every meal, and the room quality was top-notch—luxurious, clean, and very comfortable. If you’re planning a trip to Sigiriya, I can’t recommend this hotel enough. We had a great time and can't wait to return!"

SigiriyaJungles Resort & Spa Hotels in Matale

SigiriyaJungles Resort & Spa

"May be we should rate this hotel higher but it is difficult to do so for the following reasons. The bedroom had rubbish under the curtains on the floor upon arrival which says that the room wasn’t cleaned properly The electrics were very poor - I tried to plug my phone into the socket next to the bed and the socket immediately fell off the wall, also, the hair dryer was stuck together with sticky-tape!!!! See photos. Next the swimming pool itself guests had been smoking and their used cigarettes were still there!!! This is very bad. I hate smoking and I hate used cigarettes, especially within 1-2 meters of a swimming pool. See photos. I did use the pool but on getting out I wanted to return to our bedroom with the towel around me - the pool man ran after me and told me that I wasn’t allowed to take the towel to the room, despite just getting out of the pool. Clearly he thinks guests cannot be trusted to take towels back to the rooms… does the hotel really think I want to keep a cheap towel?!?! On check out reception do not let you depart until your room as been checked in case you haven’t declared something taken from the mini-bar! Or may it was the towel! Some of the food at the buffet was cold, eg the kitchen brought out a new lasagne… but it was cold, ie very cold. Should we have complained… we were staying for two nights only and didn’t want to spend our valuable time doing so although we did point out the cleaning issue in the bedroom. However, other aspects of the hotel are good. They looked after dietary requirements very well indeed and the chef took a personal interest and this was very much appreciated. The actual swimming pool itself is lovely and the hotel grounds and general situation, and the hotel building itself is very nice indeed especially with the breeze flowing through the reception area. The hotel grounds are well maintained and there are golf buggies available to take you to your room."

Sigiriya Village Hotels in Matale

Sigiriya Village

"It’s good if you want to experience living in a forest area. It’s very near some quaint little cafes outside the hotel facing the lion rock fortress aka sigiriya rock. If you are looking for 5 star hotel , it is not. It’s good for the locality, clean Very peaceful and pleasant place."

Hotel Sigiriyaaya Hotels in Matale

Hotel Sigiriyaaya

"A wonderful hotel in a quiet location among rice fields. Peacocks and the sounds of the jungle. If you love nature and solitude, this is perfect! Just remember that there's no "civilization" right next door. The rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable. The reception is very warm. The breakfast and dinner were delicious! Thanks to all the hotel staff. Most importantly for those traveling by car, the road Google defaults to on the lake side is bad, full of potholes; we barely made it. The road on the other side, while rough, is much better. I've attached a map in the photo."

Sigiriana Resort by Thilanka

"Loved this hotel, fabulous large room and ensuite, with separate walk in shower and bath. Good AC and working fridge, comfy bed. Fab scenery from balcony, looking out on paddy fields, snd amazing sounds from wildlife at night. Safe should be secured to some surface though, so it can't be lifted. Food was good standard, very similar to other hotels we visited. Pool area was super, nice amount of beds and tables and chairs, plenty of towels available. Bar was nice, good singer one night who took our requests and got us all up dancing. Bar staff were excellent, much quicker than in other places, and more than willing to learn how to make a Baby Guinness!"

Seerock the King's Domain Hotels in Matale

Seerock the King's Domain

"Overall, the stay was good. Staff will greet you and were polite. Although the town is about 20min away, elephants might roam at night so it's better to dine in the hotel where the food met expectations / eat before returning. The room was really spacious and comfy. Just want to quickly point out a few things which could be improved. Not everyone has the same faults and I shall drop names. - I noticed that whenever something was not understood, there could be obvious frowns. For example, when I asked if there would be a 3% extra charge on credit cards (because that's what happened to me in Negombo and some other parts of the world). Just because you've never encountered something before doesn't make a question weird, and there could be better ways of reacting. - English can be improved. They didn't understand simple words like "Sigiriya town" and I had to say "city". Again, this was met with a frown - One morning, I wanted to change a 5k note into 1k bills. However I was told that their money was locked in a vault somewhere and they had no cash. Appalling. - I felt that one fella kept stalking me when he sensed that I wanted to tip. He was supposed to be stationed on level 1 but followed me up to level 2 and did not go down again till I was done with my breakfast. When I tried to sneakily tip some other staff, I saw him peering around the corner. It was super creepy."

Clodagh Manor House by Seven Angels ★★★
"Clodagh Manor House is an absolute gem. Set within a stunning old estate, the property blends its beautifully restored colonial architecture with modern aesthetics in the perfect way — you feel the history, but you still get all the comfort. The whole stay was incredibly relaxing, and walking around the estate is honestly magical. Every old structure has a story, and it adds so much character to the experience. One of the biggest highlights was the food — truly outstanding, some of the best I’ve ever had. And the staff? Exceptional. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely accommodating. If you want a peaceful escape with charm, history, and next-level hospitality, this place delivers."

Aliya Resort and Spa - Thema Collection ★★★★★
"Beautiful hotel in Sigiriya, view over the Lion Rock from the pool which is gorgeous as well, hotel is well located close to Dambulla temple, Minneriya Park for elephant watching,… Good experiences at the restaurant with the buffet at night, lunch and cocktails were fine too. Hotel staff is kind and helpful. Room (two floors) was comfortable and clean, a bathtub and shower room were both available. Not a big deal but the kid’s club needs a serious cleaning and upgrade (does not match the hotel standing at all). Positive note not well enough advertized: the free pottery experience for kids at the next-door hotel (walking distance)"

The pool is absolutely fantastic , perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. The entire team is exceptionally professional, friendly, and always ready to go the extra mile to make your stay special. Lavendish Wild Safari ★★★★
"The location is facing a tank but not very impressive but the mountain ranges that are seen around is good. The rooms are good with the washroom setup. The restaurant too was good where we had string hopper breakfast and the curries tasted good. We went on a safari from the hotels safari vehicle. We started at 2.30 pm (and the other starting time is 5 am) .We saw peacocks (even on the normal roads leading to Wasgamuwa too we can see them) Elephants of which one was a lonely animal near the road and we had to wait without passing him as it started few fearful strides, many bird types, wadu birds nets and stems of trees scraped by bears. At around 4.30 pm it rained heavily and we got wet while staying inside the vehicle as the roof of it leaked. Our bodies got cold too. After having a hot water bath we were ok. "

Ashburnham Estate ★★★★
"We stayed at Ashburnham Estate for just one night in July 2025. We stayed as a family of four in the family room. We had a wonderful time and all agreed we wished we'd stayed longer. The place had a real old world charm. Some parts of the estate were a little tired by western standards but it was clean, tidy and the decor was very attractive. The service was impeccable, we felt really well looked after. We had a fabulous dinner, where our vegetarian and vegan family members were well catered for (discussed in advance). Breakfast was also gorgeous sitting out on the terrace. The setting is glorious, set amongst the estates’ 100 acres, 60 of which are traditionally managed tea hills. During our short stay our boys had a little swim in the pool which was fun, we all went on a tea tour with site manager Mr Dassanayake who was full of enthusiasm and knowledge, and I went on a trip down to the waterfall by myself (very steep and full of steps so not good if you have mobility issues). The whole place was so peaceful and serene it felt good for the soul. Highly recommended!"
