Puerto Princesa is the capital of Palawan Province. The city is actually very small - there is only one main street running through the city in its center. The city’s main attraction is the Blue Cathedral. The city’s bay walk is also ideal for watching the sunset and strolling along the shore. Puerto Princesa has a very small airport, but it is an important transportation hub within Palawan. From here, visitors can take a coach to the famous Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and the resort area of El Nido.
El Nido is a small archipelago in the northwest of Palawan that is dotted with 45 islands of different shapes and sizes. The Spanish named it Nido in 1954, meaning the bird's nest. El Nido has been named the best resort beach in Asia for three consecutive years by National Geographic. There are many small islands near El Nido, so island hopping and snorkeling are the most popular activities here. The island-hopping routes here have been taken my many travelers – each island is unique and worth a visit.
There are two places in Palawan called Coron, one is on Busuanga, and the other refers to Coron Island, a 20-minute ferry ride from the town of Coron. The Coron that we usually refer to is the Coron Town on the Calamian Islands, located in Far North of Palawan. Most travelers use Coron Town as a base to go diving or visit near the outlying islands. There are several classic island-hopping snorkeling routes from Coron Town. For scuba diving enthusiasts, there are also many sunken ship sites worth checking out.
