Crowne Plaza Suites Pittsburgh South

Pittsburgh
Based on my recent stay at Crowne Plaza Suites Pittsburgh South, I am conflicted about this rating. It might be more accurate at four stars for service, three stars for the hotel itself. Here’s why. About four stars for service . . . When I initially called the hotel or additional information after checking out their website, a front desk representative named Nico was extremely helpful. He took the time to provide details, listened to my specific needs and set up an appropriate reservation for me at a decent price. Good start! Upon my evening arrival, I found that the room included everything we had discussed. Many thanks to Nico for his assistance. Other front desk staff members were helpful during the stay. The name Kayla sticks in my mind. (No one asked me to write this review or mention names.) The three stars? A very average room in need of an update, difficult climate control, a worn mattress, cumbersome pillows, and a previously disclosed lack of food service. They also only do housekeeping twice a week. Clean towels are available upon request. Don’t get hungry here on a Monday or Tuesday, when the onsite restaurant is closed. Even when dining reopened on Wednesday morning, only a continental breakfast buffet (carb central!) was available. My guess? Staff shortages and/or no profitability. I wasn’t there later in the day. There is a tiny store in the lobby for a few packaged snacks and beverages. The hotel is centrally located for anyone visiting Bethel Park or Upper Saint Clair, with plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby. The room had adequate space with a decent TV. A little card listed all the channels. The inexpensive, thin carpeting was worn. Chairs had old, spotted upholstery. The room itself was clean, with the usual appointments. The mattress edges had been weakened over time, making it easy to slip off when sitting on the side of the bed. Have you ever seen the huge, poly-fill pillows used in some hotels, the ones that look good on the fully-made bed but are too bulky to sleep on comfortably? Yup, those pillows. Enough said. Climate control in the room was accessed through a thermostat on the wall rather than the unit itself . . . with confusing buttons and no instructions. It was either too warm in the room or freezing. In addition, the air flow from the unit curled refrigerated air toward the ceiling, down the opposite wall and then straight onto the bed. Would I stay there again? Maybe, but only for a fully updated room at a good price. Advice: bring your own pillows.

Pittsburgh Marriott City Center

This is the first and only time I've written a review of a Marriott. I'm doing so because it was that bad. Literally, THAT BAD. To start, I am a Platinum member for many years. So I am very used to very good service at Marriotts. Today, it was the exact opposite. This weekend, Taylor Swift was in town. This made things busy at this hotel. And hectic. And full. And also, most notably, not a surprise. Taylor has been coming to Pittsburgh for almost a year. However, this large hotel seemed confused, confounded and dazed at the number of paid guests who showed up today. They left a very inexperienced ”supervisor” in charge of the hotel and the result was a cluster. This was likely their busiest weekend of 2023 so an actual manager and extra housekeeping staff would have been appropriate. Neither were in place. We tried to check in at 230, which as a Platinum member would never be an issue anywhere. Here, they said they had no rooms. They suggested we get ready for the concert in the lobby bathroom. Yes, of the hotel. So, we did that. We did it with no apology, no emotion, literally zero human communication that recognized what a mess this was. We paid for a suite, but instead got ready in a communal bathroom with hundreds of other misplaced guests. At midnight, we returned to the hotel and tried to get a key for the second room we had already paid for. We were yelled at to get in the regular line, as no Marriott Elite service was available. When I asked what the rate would be since they were checking us in well after midnight, ”Chris” sneered and said he wasn't ”in the mood” as he had already been yelled at today. I'm sure he had been, and that part stinks for him. At 1AM, there was still a line out the door of people trying to check in for rooms they paid for starting hours ago. This hotel is to be avoided. Cambria Hotel Pittsburgh - Downtown

Pittsburgh
We met our kids there for the Elton John concert at PNC Park . I booked a year in advance at Cambria Downtown thinking it was close but far enough away fro immediate crowds. I’ll address the negatives immediately, but continue reading because it has a good end. Thank you I usually choose a hotel that has an indoor heated pool , a hot tub is a bonus , Cambria had both! Next is as mentioned above , location , close but not in the thick of things, Parking availability is important so our car can be left at hotel without concern, again Cambria met my criteria , things are good so far . Now , Upon arrival to Hotel there was much construction building and road so getting there was confusing , once we pull on to the Drop off area , their parking lot was closed and being maintained, we were instructed to use the parking lot up the road and tell the attendant that we were hotel guests , well that didn’t matter at all it was still 6.50 to park , the attendant was only there til 3 , so the parking lot was ‘open air ‘ no security, no responsibility on their behalf. Next we try to get checked in … cannot til 4 , no exceptions , so we hung around the lobby , bar was not open so no food or beverage available. We check out where the pool is see the hot tub , things look alright , 4 o’clock comes we check in get settled decide to go for a swim , the pool was freezing ( not even 70 degree) and the whirlpool/ hot tub had not been working for about two weeks. YES WE UNDERSTAND things happen beyond our control , but our expectations had been crushed and would have never happened if these issues were mentioned on the Hotel Site or the Booking sites , plus I’m signed up for text and emails , but no mention of the construction, the parking, or hot tub malfunction. Just communicated to us prior to our visit . Now transportation becomes an issue because we are no longer in a designated Hotel parking area. Cabs are not readily available as you may think, the Hotel stated it offered shuttle service within a 3mile radius , turns out that there’s only ONE GUY who doesn’t come on til 1-2 O’clock in the afternoon. NOW for the GOOD STUFF. The immediate folks that we interacted with couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating! JOHN the one shuttle driver was SUPER NICE , SO POLITE, communication was key , JOHN was WONDERFUL! He was a key part to turning our stay around to be greater than expected . Also OSCAR was head of food and beverage , he too was very accommodating offered to drive us around in between all his other duties, and Fun! A great sense of humor . Than there’s DEB the manager she was so helpful , she apologized for our inconvenience ( which wasn’t necessary) she had and employee turn up the heat in the pool since the hot tub was not working . She went above and beyond to try to make things right , and they weren’t really wrong , there was just need for better communication, in regard to the websites so that people could be informed of what was happeni

I stay here for two nights in early September. Room 705. When checking in, it's good to know that you may pull up in front and park in an area marked by white diagonal lines. This is for checking in, unloading and loading only. Parking is $24/day off site two blocks away (with in and out privileges). Large two-story atrium with TV, seating, a mini market and a glass enclosed conference room at one end. Friendly, helpful staff. Socially distance markings on the floor and large pump hand sanitizers available. Two luggage carts with triangular bases are available in this area. Breakfast was provided as takeaway: yogurt, breakfast sandwich to microwave, fruit cup, and orange juice or water. The room is an accessible room which I requested as (when available) I prefer the walk in shower and raised toilet. Room was very comfortable and (mostly) very clean.* Closet with iron and board, microwave, small fridge, one-cup coffee maker. Desk area. Plenty of towels, very comfortable bed and pillows. Plenty of good lighting as well. *Regarding cleanliness: I discovered when looking for the TV remote, that the area behind the console under the TV had not been cleaned in some time. Though this was a bit of a shocking discovery, the district manager happened to be on-site that day and handled the situation purposefully and properly. This situation aside, I believe this was an anomaly as the rest of the room and the property in general was clean and well kept elsewhere. I would definitely stay here again. The hotel is one of the more reasonably priced in the downtown area and is close in and a very walkable area.

This is a pretty decent hotel. It is much better than the Hilton Garden Inn we previously stayed in down the street. We initially reserved a studio with 2 queen beds, but got upgraded to a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite. My kids were beyond excited because they got their own room, TV and bathroom. My husband appreciated the private bath and corner view with plenty of windows. It was VERY spacious. Our room was listed as having a king bed, but it seemed more like a queen. The pillows and mattresses were not very comfortable, which was disappointing. The bathrooms were clean. The bedrooms were fine, but a bit dusty. The kitchen/living areas were not as clean. The sofa was pilled up and had blonde hairs on it. The kitchen cabinets, stove, table, chairs and fridge had smudges and fingerprints on them, which I found a bit gross. Although there was a full kitchen, there weren't any cleaning supplies aside from a meager roll of cheap paper towels. No dish detergent. No disinfectant spray. Luckily, we didn't really need to use the kitchen. At one point, we used 2 forks and a bowl, so I called the front desk for some detergent and they brought me dishwasher pods which we didn't use. I bought Clorox wipes at the CVS down the street to clean up and left the bowl and forks rinsed off in the sink for housekeeping to wash. Despite these shortcomings, we will most likely stay here again. We'll just be better prepared. Also, be aware that the parking is first come, first serve. We parked and walked to our destinations, which was very easy since the hotel is right on Forbes Ave.

Very very good hotel, very new and new, relying only on the PPG building, the real downtown, and the environment is very good. The rooms are tall, clean, hygienic and well-heated. The kitchen supplies are good. Will choose this hotel next time, the price is very high, I strongly recommend everyone to choose.
Hampton Inn Pittsburgh/Greentree
4.1/5106 Reviews
Hampton Inn Pittsburgh/Greentree I apologize in advance for the lengthy review but I needed to warn other people about this place, specially Hilton Members that time and time again bring business to the brand with our stays. If I could leave 0 star I would, this hotel left something to be desired. I really don't understand how they have 4 stars on Google, all I can think of is managment encouraging their employees, friends and families to write bogus reviews to raise their score. I really don't want to believe a Hilton brand would stoop so low but then again this hotel seem to be run by very rude and unprofessional people so I can't rule anything out. The property was old and outdated. Now I'm not super picky about things like that but when my room smells horrible and the ceiling in the bathroom on top of the tub is cracking and pieces of drywall are falling on me while showering, well that's when we have a problem. I understand a building being outdated but maintenance should never ever fall behind, especially in a Hilton brand. As a Hilton Diamond member that has stay with the brand everytime I travel domestically or internationally, this is not what I have come to expect from them. On top of that the staff was extremely unhelpful, rude and unwelcoming. They all seem like they did not want to be there and were all having the worst day according to their body language and behavior towards the guest. I was traveling with my partner and she's a god damn saint and didn't want to bother anyone or get anyone in trouble, she told me it was just a 3 nights stay and to just let it go, so I didn't say anything while we were there. Now the last drop came when we arrived home and I sat down, and went to check the receipt from the hotel(side note-I usually don't check my Hilton stay receipts till a couple days after check out, but this people did not inspired any confidence in me). I am glad I checked because there was a $267 cleaning fee attached. I immediately called the hotel but the agent said he didn't know what that cleaning fee meant so I had to call back the next day in the morning to speak with his manager Rebecca. I called the next day in the morning and asked to speak with Rebecca, they send me to her voice-mail, so I got tired of being thrown around like a god damn ball and decided to call the diamond desk. They contacted the hotel and put me through to talk to someone(this person was not the manager Rebecca, it was a front desk agent) The lady said the Cleaning Fee was for smoking. Now I was really pissed, I have ashtma and obviously do not smoke at all, and my partner does not smoke either, she doesn't even drink. I explained that it was not possible that we could have smoke in that room and asked what proved they had to make that statement and charge me a fee without even notifying me before leaving the hotel, all the lady said was that it smelled like someone smoked. I reiterated that it was not possible and she kept saying the same thing. A
Mansions on Fifth

I was pleasantly surprised by this small hotel. I liked that it was in a mansion and within walking distance to Phipps Conservatory and the Carnegie museums (both about a 15 minute walk from the hotel). The lobby area is beautifully furnished. Check-in was fast with friendly staff to help with any questions. There is a full bar on site which serves drinks and a few small munchies but no restaurant or room service was available. The bartender was kind enough to give me some help with the local food options. She even went so far as to draw me a small map so I could easily locate the restaurants. (Thanks so much for the extra effort. It was greatly appreciated!) The walk to nearby Shadyside was only about 10 minutes. There were restaurants and bars available plus some shops. The area is safe so I didn't feel uncomfortable walking in late evening. The rooms were clean and modern with standard amenities. I did like that housekeeping service was optional. At check-in, you were asked to chose the type of housekeeping service you would like during your stay. I was only staying in the hotel for two nights so opted out of housekeeping service. My only real complaint was the lack of parking for the hotel. There is off street parking which is good since the hotel sits on a busy street, but the amount of parking is very limited. I only saw eight actual parking spaces. Three of these spaces were not available due to on-site construction. The overflow parking is basically anywhere along the perimeter of the property next to the fence. This is not enough parking for the amount of rooms available. I didn't appreciate having to park in a location where my car could easily by damaged. With the exception of the parking, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would stay again when visiting Pittsburgh.

We asked for city view and our room was on the 20th floor. Gorgeous view! The room was clean, everything we needed was provided at a reasonable price. The pool on the 4th floor with a view of the iconic yellow bridge was fantastic. Every staff member we spoke with was friendly and helpful, with great pointers for restaurants. The next time we go to Pittsburgh we will be staying here again.
Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center

The transportation is convenient. It is more than 600 meters away from the University of Pittsburgh. The hotel is old, but the sound insulation is good. It is very close to the Dinosaur Natural History Museum. The front desk will be very enthusiastic to answer any questions you have. If you park in the parking lot opposite the hotel, you have to pay 29💲 at the hotel. The front desk gave 3 parking coupons to swipe the card and scan the QR code on the coupon.
Even Hotel Pittsburgh Downtown
4.2/5110 Reviews
The hotel itself is good, the location is in the city center, it is very convenient to walk around and eat. Parking can stop at the parking building across the road, but the hotel charges $30 a day for the night, the parking lot price is $28 overnight, but the second day when I left, I charged $12, I suggest you go directly to the parking lot. In addition, when booking, it is said that breakfast is included, but the order that is ultimately generated does not include breakfast. I hope that Trip.com can be consistent in this regard.
