You had to check in in the back of the building and if an employee weren’t on their way inside we wouldn’t have known where to go. They gave me a hard time about the card I was using to secure the deposit even though there weren’t any small print details saying that they didn’t want to accept chime after I already reserved the room with that exact card. Breakfast was provided but it was grab n go items so that was disappointing."

"The Traveler's Rest Hotel is a gem. The area seems a little off-putting at first but we found it to be safe. Using a keypad to get in was a little daunting for us geezers, but it worked. After the code you need to press the hashtag at the front door, or the red button at the garage entry. The bike garage is awesome with plenty of space for bikes and a complete shop for repairs, plus maps on the walls and other info. We locked our bikes just because we had brought locks, but didn't need to. The beds were comfortable, towels were provided, and both the room and the bathroom across the hall were very clean. The breakfast was plentiful with coffee, tea, great granola, oat milk, yogurts, eggs, croissants, and more. It was nice to meet both Paul and Mary Beth who were friendly and had a wealth of information. It was also nice to meet other cyclists and hear about their rides."

Only one issue - apparently a new rule was implemented regarding checking in early afternoon. After a 6 hour drive I arrived at 1:15pm and asked to check in. I travel for a living so I was a bit disappointed to hear it would cost an additional $50 to get my room an 1 1/2 "early". I asked if it was ready and was told yes. So after a 6 hour drive my choice was to sit in the lobby for an hour and a half+ or pay the $50. I said I understood if I was trying to check in at like 9:00 am. When checking out Tryp made the experience right. Overall, as a frequent visitor to pittsburgh I look forward to returning and highly recommend."

"Very average hotel. It was once one of the most luxurious hotels in Pittsburgh, but it's been in serious decline. There was almost no service, the phone in the room didn't work (you had to go downstairs to get room service), and the cleanliness was average (there were even stains on the sheets). The shops and restaurants inside the hotel are almost closed. It snowed heavily when we checked in, and we couldn't go out during the day. As a result, there was no food in such a big hotel (only one bar was still open)! Finally, due to the overall design of this hotel, almost all the windows in the basic room types are inward facing (the window is opposite a wall), which makes it a bit claustrophobic."
