Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel

Great hotel, great facilities! The beach and view are beautiful!

I don't even know where to begin on this review. Everything about the stay was literally perfect. We went with our 3 year old - this resort is aimed at under 5's and is amazing for this age group. The hotel really have thought of everything. The service was amazing - speficially Baljeet in the M Bar who remembered us every day and our lunchtime sangria jugs! All the waiters in the restaurants were great, attentive and made us feel really special. The food was really good. Some places were better than others (As Dunas and O Terraco became our favourites) as we found Oz Gambozinos was more informal; fine but not what we had come for - the pizzas and the kids buffet her was awesome though! Breakfast buffet was a little chaotic - we came the week after half term so thought it'd be a bit less crazy but they only open O Terraco so after 0830 it was manic - I'd go earlier if you want a more leisurely experience for this! Otherwise it was fab. The parks were awesome for the kids, well kept and great to observe your kids whilst we had dinner and wine together - so the best of both worlds. The swimming pools were great - our favourite was the heathed indoor/outdoor one, and the Club 98 one with the inflatable slide - great fun! The pool bar one was a little too chilly for us but really lovely. We stayed in a Bay House and can highly recommend, a real home from home. It was clean and we opted for no cleaning through the week, but we were left clean sheets and towels should we want them mid way through which was nice. All in all, the most perfect stay and we would love to return!

This resort absolutely blew us away with how well they executed even the most minute details of our stay. The welcome basket of goodies was super thoughtful and well curated. Having the milk and cereal for our kids in the morning to eat before we went down to our breakfast reservation was a life safer! That and having kids step stools and bed railings already in our room went really went above and beyond and we were so appreciative of all the thought that goes into making sure guests with kids have the most seamless and enjoyable family vacation. Additionally, the kids club options and the multitude of activities to do around the property were amazing! We can't wait to come back and stay for a much longer visit!

This resort was very well equipped for children- lots of play areas and all restaurants set up to welcome children. Staff were very polite and helpful. My only issue is the very loud dance music that is played from multiple speakers around the pool/beach area- runs all day and means that you can't find anywhere for some peace and quiet- real shame as it did really impact our enjoyment of the stay and would put me off booking again. Didn't feel necessary at a family resort- more like an 18-30s holiday!

We were very happy with our stay in Martinhal! The main driver for this was the fun our 7 year old son had during our stay. The football academy was excellent and the early evening family soccer match was great fun and really became a core part of our day. The feeling of a community and safety for all, added invaluablely to our experience! The staff in all of the restaurants and bars and throughout the resort were all very nice and extremely helpful. We will come again!!

So family friendly and well thought out. Everybody was super nice and helpful nothing was too much to ask. Loved the heated pools and food.

Booked Martinhal Sagres to utilise the CRB and Ofsted registered childcare on some mornings to engage and interest our children and get some time together as a couple while they made friends to meet up with outside the club. We felt this was really very underwhelming - planned activities weren’t done so the timetable published in advance was frequently abandoned. We used the crèche (23m old, 27E a session of 3 hours) and this was great but very little seemed to be done with him as advertised (in 6 sessions, he painted once, for example, when there were often as many staff as children). We found the same with explorers (7 yo, 25E a 3 hour session), the timetable I photographed at the start of her week was rarely followed and replaced with underwhelming activities instead (engineering ignored, no whirligig or marble run made - instead of these our daughter did colouring and painted a paper plate). Compared to what was advertised and amount paid, this was really disappointing. These were the things she’d been most excited to experience. We were also shocked about the behaviour of some children (generally and towards staff) witnessed at restaurants in the children’s corner and also at the club (e.g. on collection with unkind comments made openly about how our daughter had done with the climbing (something she has a fear of), for example, or repeatedly hitting the adult in the pool with them at club 98 & ignoring constant requests to stop this behaviour. I wouldn’t have allowed my daughter to go to the pool with them after this (if it’d been scheduled on a day she was there) as I didn’t feel it was safe. I think they needed clear policies on how staff could be expected to be treated and a process for when they aren’t (e.g. you’re asked to collect your child after repeatedly asking them to behave). Perhaps the policy is in place but it should be used when appropriate as they’re there to engage and entertain rather than managing behaviour and having to focus all attention on a few. Apart from this, everything else was perfect (literally perfect) so this is very disappointing as we paid a premium to go there and have the option of these clubs available. It’s not something we’ll do again at the brand as a result but the concept is something we’ll seek out. If you do go, I’d recommend a car and heading to Aldi/Lidl - really great fresh produce. We paid the meal supplement (40E per adult and our children were free) for a three course meal in any restaurant.

High end yet very personable, family friendly hotel. The place is stunning, the staff is amazingly kind, and the service is top notch. Will definitely come back - highly recommended
